Re: Let's all roll our eyes together...

  • While that bride seems a little over the top, I can't I wouldn't be pissed if something like that completely effed up traffic when I was trying to get from point A to point B, wedding or not.
  • Yeah, I've planned a few events with just the First Lady in attendance, and it's INSANE. Like, seriously, INSANE.  I totally sympathize with her concerns that everything will be shut down and her guests will be focked.
  • I hate traffic issues too, and we've had the president come to our area a couple of times in the last few months. So I've experienced it first hand. I'm just eyerolling because she's so worried it's going to ruin her entire day that a national news source picked it up.
  • I don't exactly blame her for being worried about traffic, that could seriously mess things up.  I also like that the article clarifies that she didn't reach out to them, they sought her out for this "newsworthy" story.

  • Maybe she should remember that hundreds- THOUSANDS of other people are getting married that day too.
  • I would be somewhat upset as well. I live in Chicago, so I know about Pres. Obama, for example, coming to the city. They shut down Lake Shore Drive when he came in last summer, I think it was. She does have room for concern IMO. I'm pretty sure she didn't contact whoever got this story. Or maybe she did. ~Shrugging~
And the whole time, my future husband was in the room...... image image
  • I think it's a pretty legitimate concern. It's not like she's stomping her foot because she is sharing the date with someone. She is freaking out because all of the roads will likely be closed and people won't be able to get to the wedding.

This. I would be pissed too if my guests had to take a 90 minute round-about route from the wedding to the reception because 1 other couple (who happen to be famous) are getting married in the same area.

  • FWIW, I also think all the media hype about Chelsea's wedding is stupid. Who gives a crap? It's been all over People this week.

I assume they're not all getting married in the same city so as to have traffic concerns...

  • I'd be irritated, too.  They've had the venue booked for 2 years, and it's a place that's meaningful to them.  It just kind of sucks that their guests might have to make a huge hour long detour to get from the ceremony site to the reception.  At least they already have rooms blocked!

  • Someone posted that on my club board yesterday. I was under the impression that most brides didn't need to seek out things to worry about. Seriously, cross your fingers and hope for the best. It's out of your control, babycakes.

  • I dunno, I'm kind of torn.  While I understand why she's worried about the traffic, I don't see what saying it on a news source is going to do to stop the problem.  Chelsea can't help it if the media is clogging the roads to get to her wedding.  She'd probably rather have the privacy (going out on a limb here, since I don't know Chelsea personally).

I know it's easy for us to say "I would do this", but I really think, knowing how anxious I get about traffic and lateness, etc., the first minute I heard about the Clinton wedding, I probably would have been on the phone trying to get my venue switched.  It would have been a huge hassle, but I think I would have done it more for the peace of mind, so that a week before my wedding, I wouldn't have to be in the situation the bride in the article is in.

I agree.  I understand that the venue is important and all that, but I think I would at least try to switch some things around to avoid the giant clusterF that everyone knows this is going to be.
  • I would be a little worried about the guest getting there, so to me that's a legitimate concern. Also it's says that she did not contact them, but they contacted her.

  • "“I know she’s not doing it on purpose,” says the Brooklyn-based school teacher. “But Chelsea Clinton has taken what was supposed to be a special day for me turned it into hell.”

THIS was the part that really rubbed me the wrong way.  I realize that she's stressed and nervous, and hell, she might have even been misquoted by the journalist (who seems to be trying to make the story as dramatic as possible), but it just comes out sounding like she thinks Chelsea is deliberately sabotaging her special day.  Her tone in the article is very chafing.

  • FWIW, it may not be the media (although there could be that issue too).

When you have the guest list that she does, you may also have secret service shutting down roads.

I live in Eastern CT.  When Cheney came to the Coast Guard Academy to give the commencement speach, he also chose to go to Electric Boat where submarines are made.  He made the trip by boat across the river (a VERY short distance) and that shut down the local bridge over an hour.  That bridge is on I-95 and is the ONLY way to cross the Thames River unless you drive out of your way to cross it 15 miles north.

So yeah it's a PITA to deal with stuff like this.  A five minute trip that day would have turned into a 1.5 hour one - all because SS decided to shut things down.

And it seems like she's more concerned about the logistics than the fact that someone famous is getting married.

And as a guest, I'd be a bit annoyed too even though I know that there's nothing the bride could have done to help it - but it's a very real concern; particularly when weddings cost as much as they do in the NYC area.

  • If you can read through all the intentionally dramatic ridiculous writing style, I think the bride probably has really valid concerns. I admit that I'd be freaked out by that scenario -- and the worst thing is there's really nothing she can do. I think it's more the horrible over-the-top writing style that rubs wrong rather than the bride herself.

Yes. But those hundreds and THOUSANDS of other people are all not getting married in the same area as she is that day and are not going to be affected by the traffic from Chelsea Clinton's wedding. I would be worried too.
