Engaged at Christmas after 2 1/2 years and since I wanted close to a year to plan the wedding, we got married the following November.

We met in October 06 when I was 24. Started dating in July 07 when I was 25. Moved in together in January '08. Engaged in September 09, so 26 months of dating. Married October 10, so 13 month engagement.

My parents dating for 9 months, then were engaged for 9 months. I can't even imagine.

I could have definitely became engaged sooner than what we did. I'm glad we dated for so long before deciding to get married, but I knew awhile ago he was the one. I probably would have known sooner if we wouldn' have been LDR for the first year and a half of our relationship. I had to move to be with him to know 100%. He waited so long after my move to propose mostly for financial reasons.

My parents were engaged after 2 weeks! And then married 6 months later. And then had my sister 9 months later.

They just celebrated their 30th wedding anniversary this past June. When you know, you know.

Married Aug 14, 2010, were at the 2 year together mark Oct 15, 2010. Like a couple PPs, we had already been through a lot and knew what we wanted. We met when FI was 32 and I was just about to turn 38.

I told the person that there is no right or wrong time frame for this. I think it really depends on the two people.

After all. My mom met the her now hubby, got engaged two weeks later, and married two weeks after that. They have been married for 13 1/2 years and she is ten years older than him.

Married about 10 months later, been married for 7 months or so.

We will be getting married one month shy of being together for 7 years.

We dated 3 years, 5ish months when we got engaged. We will be together for 4 years, 11 months when we get married.

We started living together officially (rather than just sleeping over each other's houses all the time) about 3 years into dating.

I don't really think there is a "normal" time that people should be together before they get married. It really just depends on the people and their situations at the time.

I don't think it's really anyone's place to say it's too soon. It sounds cliche, but I knew H was the guy I was going to marry within a month of dating.

My mom always says that she got engaged to my dad (step-dad) on their first date. Apparently, at dinner he actually said "I think I'm going to marry you someday" and she kind of said "Oh, that could be nice". There was never a "real" proposal after that ... but after a few months (I really don't even know how many) of dating, they picked out a ring and they just sort of threw a wedding together. They've been happily married for over 20 years.

It was about 4 1/2 years after our first date that we got engaged. By the time we get married, it'll be nearly 6 years together. It would've been sooner, but FI had financial obligations from his divorce to take care of first so we'd have a clean slate.

We moved in together after 4 years of dating.
Got engaged after 6 years (2 years after we moved in together).
We are having a 1.5 year engagement.
So by the time we get married in March we will have been together 7.5 years total.
