So as many of you know, I am a teacher...I teach mostly kids between 12 - 14 years of age. I am always astounded by what is 'cool' at any given time...my kids ALL have ipods (mostly iPod touches, kid you not, 80% of them have one), Uggs are really popular (real and fake), scarves, etc...
What do you remember from when you were in middle school that 'everyone' had?
I remember:
Doc Martens (parents wouldn't buy them for me)
Vuarnet t-shirts (these might be a Canadian thing)
Technicolour shirts (changed colour with heat/sweat, gross!)
Big shirts with leggings (wait a second...hmmm...how cyclical is fashion!)
Nintendo Gameboys

Phones in their own room. Bonus points if their phone had it's own line. That was just unheard of for most people.

<div>uh, I NEVER got to have a phone in my room. When I was in grade 8 I convinced my mom to let me get a ridiculously long phone cord so that I could drag the phone in my room but I wasn't alone to have my own phone.</div><div>
</div><div>I remember people who had their own line. I couldn't believe that parents would pay for the extra line. Now all my kids have cells...sigh...</div>

It is true that pit bulls grab and hold on. But what they most
often grab and refuse to let go of is your heart
-Friendship braclets (yarn or gimp)
-Phone in your own room (I had a clear one with brightly colored motherboard on the inside)
-TV in your own room
-When I was in elementary school "mall bangs" or those really high bangs were in, but by the time I got to middle school they were out
-Hypercolor shirts (I think that's what we called the shirts that changed colors)

Almost everyone in my grade in grade 6 did this, much to our parents displeasure. We all had pink, purple or teal hair for like a month.
