Baby Name Fever

Re: Baby Name Fever

See?  The relative thing (cousins, aunts, uncles) could get weird!  Because it's not like you're naming your child after that person; you just happen to like that name.

Wow you guys have some amazing names picked out!

I am a bit restricted but it's totally ok, for a boy, Steven. He will be the 7th in the line. FI would love to buck the trend but the whole family would be PISSED. Me I love his name, so I don't mind at all.  It's strange they always spelled it with a V instead of PH b/c we are Catholic and you usually see the V when the family is Jewish. Not that it matters but random fact, I like it with a V better.

Girls' names haha big ? there. I love Emma FI loves Emily, me not so much, and there are a gazillion Emmas now boo.  I am having a really hard time finding girls' names I like, so I am kinda hoping that when the time comes I have a boy first, to buy me some more time!!

RA - how can you have a baby name with no vowels??? is that possible?
  • edited December 2011

Northstar- I thought the same thing but after reading more I think she meant he doesnt want it to start with a vowel.... examples: Isabella, Olivia, Emily... etc

  • edited December 2011

Yes that's what I meant.  No baby names that start with vowels. It's probably because he dated an Elizabeth, and then an Amanda broke his best friend's heart... so now he just won't agree to a lot of names that begin with vowels.  There are some I names and O names that he likes.

Haha I feel like the episode in HIMYM when Lilly won't name her kid certain names because she had a kid in class that was bad...

I want to start by saying my mother has all my unborn kids named.  Since my sister allowed her to name my neice I now have no say in this matter.  *eye roll*

FI's kids are Lilly Ann and Ryan James herdad'snamethatialwaysforget.  He has a list of no-goes from his previous marriage:
    1. Cannon - because he doesn't want someone to say his son is a "loose cannon".  His ex named the baby that's not his this so she finally won that battle.
    2.  Peyton - I guess this is a character from one tree hill... which I'm ok with nixing
    3. Amber - since that's his ex's name

    I like:
    Boys
Hunter George (george is my dad's name)
Jackson, but my cousin stole that and another stole Eli
    Lee
    Jordan
    Morgan

    Girls:
    Samantha
    Taylor
    Mom's pick: Zoe
Cora (found it on my family tree)

[QUOTE] I used to love Grace but now it's becoming way to popular and since I grew up with at least 2 other Jessica's in my classes at all times- I dont want to go with anything that's popular haha Girl names are going to be tough- but I do like Harper I wanna use my middle name- Ann- becasue it's my grammys, moms and my middle name. Boys we like Nathan (Nate) or Jackson (Jax--- thanks sons of anarchy for that one)  and middle name is going to be Richard (my dads name).

Im Jewels and fiance is Jack and the two boys names we like are Jayson and Jack. I really hate when father and son have the same name but I really like the name Jack. We thought we would like to stick to all J's but I dont like any girls names with a J besides my own (Julianne) or some variation of it. So, my girls name is Grace. So pretty. Love it.

Funny you talk about not naming kids after "class in your classroom.." I do the same thing! Like when someone just said "Rhiannon" I cringed! She was the sneaky one in the class that I always was talking too! My DH hates that I do that though, he just doesnt understand

i love abigail as well!   i have a friend who just had a baby girl named Harper.  but her maiden name was harper, so she is named after that.

Jackie--My friend is named after her mother's maiden name, too.  Her name is Kelley which I know isn't an unusual name, but it is an unusual spelling, and that's bc of how her mom's maiden name is spelled.  I have another friend whose middle name is Conroy for the same reason.

smile- i still  do love grace......we also have a 'G' last name and it doesn't really go. Plus if it was Grace Ann her initials would be GAG and ya know, kids can be cruel. ;)

mana- my mom is a teacher and she always does that! I'm like 'oh I like this name' and she's like 'ohh I had a kid last year named that and they were a terror'  We're not telling her the name until the kid pops out haha

Same exact thing for me -- with both Grace and Emma. As one of probably 10 Jennifers in my graduating class, I don't want to saddle my kids with one of the more popular names.

I love Abigail but I couldn't name my daughter that because my mom's name is Gail and her first husband is Abby.  That's just weird.

I have no names really picked out yet.  Between our two huge families, I think every name has been used up.

My mom, grandmother, and great-grandmother are all Margaret's.  I guess my mom decided not to use that for any of us.  I think Maggie would be cute since it's a nickname for Margaret.  But DH's brother named his dog that.

Oh, and I had no idea Harper was so popular.  My niece is Lucy Harper, because one of sister's favorite books is To Kill a Mockingbird, by Harper Lee.

I love Harper for a girl too, but its my last name and I think it would weird for me to name a kid that.  FI's grandmom's name was Genevieve and he was super close to her and I think its really pretty.  I also love Sophia, which would make her named after my favorite tv character of all time  from the golden girls b/c FI's last name is Petrillo

Girls - Juliet, Sophie (GGma was Sophie), Grace
Boys - Nathaniel, Conor, Noah middle name will probably be James after both of our dads

I also really like nicknames and I'd love if we had the nickname "Scout" for a girl

I like the more classic names too, and I specifically dislike odd names or odd spellings. I tend to have associations with a lot of names, from kids I've worked with, so I think it will be pretty difficult to come up with something.

If it's a girl, it will be Emma Grace.

If it's a boy, it will be James Patrick (after my grandpa).

Other names: Noah Owen, Caroline Ainsley for the other children.  Other possibles: Caleb, Hannah Faith, Charlotte, Amelia, Evelyn, Heather.

We really like the old-fashion names.  Neither of us are a fan of "popular" names, especially ones that can be either sex (unless you have a reason, then we are cool with that).

Can you tell I want a girl, desperately?

Paprika, Charlotte is a good Southern name.

BRB-  yay germans! ;)  Both of my parents sides are german so its strong in our family. My great Aunt still lives in Munich and she writes me emails about her neighbors daughter Lina and I just love the name.
    and
Noah Owen is quite the tounge twister! i just laughed whispering it 5 times fast in my cubicle. I do love Noah though- but DH doesn't. :(

My mom is entirely german, and my dad is german with a bit of Irish (which came out in my maiden name).  Pork and Sauerkraut on New Years?  YES PLEASE!!  I love me some German Potato Salad (warm; Brian likes his cold).  Brian is German on his dad's side and English/German on his mom's.

It was funny, when we went to Epcot and ate at Germany, DH looked around in amazement.  I had told him before that I could go over there and pass for German, but he didn't believe me.  When we sat down to eat, he was all, OMG you could be the sister of these girls (the college students from Germany)!  I just laughed.  The only thing I mourn is he has dark brown eyes and mine are baby blue; my kids have no hope :(

I meant to put a comma between that, sorry!  We like them both, with Noah as a first name and Owen as a middle, but I don't think we don't want them together.  My fault, sorry!  The only names we have definitely definitely agreed upon are the first two; after that, we like some but it's still up in the air.  Finding names that go together in a nice rhythm is the hardest of all, which is one of the reasons we aren't set on full names other than the first two.

We bought a book, The One-in-a-million Baby Name Book, and it's one of the better ones that I have looked at- I really like the layout, rating system, and such.

Haha B2B.. we don't really talk about them either. I should have clarified that those are names I like. FI is a twin and I always tell him that if we had twins I would want their names to rhyme (totally kidding of course, but I think he buys it). That is the extent of our baby name chat.

I just have to jump in on this one I love thinking of baby name.

FI primised his grandfather that he would name his first child for him so we needed a Z name.

    Zachary or Zoe

middle names for my grandparents Abraham or Maeta

We are now thinking of D names for his grandmother and I love the name Daliah but FI made out with a girl name Daliah once so that's out.

I love reading everyone elses ideas and as a teacher I have a whole list of name that are out due to bad associations.
