I'm so excited! The FI and I are going to go see it that night! We'd go to the midnight showing, but he is a teacher so that wouldn't really work out for him! Still, I can NOT wait!
Favorite character? Mine are Luna Lovegood and the Weasley twins!
FI is so excited for it, he just finished reading the 7th book (has not read the first 6 yet though, LOL). He wants to go to the midnight showing, which works for him because he doesn't have to be to work until 10AM Friday morning, but not so great for me. We'll probably go see it either Friday or Saturday night.
I'm still bitter it's being released in two segments, so I don't plan on seeing the 1st until the second is out.
As I said, still bitter
Plus, I kinda don't remember the 7th book all that much - I don't think I'm as good a fan as I should be

I really like this thread. I could talk about Harry for days.
BF and I will probably be going to see it at midnight. Our other friends have bailed because of work. BF and I also work in the morning, but midnight showings are too fun to pass up!.
We're also going with college friends shortly after. We would usually go see it at midnight but the midnight showing on top of a two hour drive home doesn't work now that they have jobs.
I'm also super excited because this weekend we're having a program at the library called Harry Potter's Owls to celebrate the release of the movie. It's the first program I'm responsible for bringing to the library so I hope we have a good turn out!

Oh, honey, you should have seen me when the 5th book came out. While waiting impatiently for the book for THREE FREAKIN' YEARS, I had a lot of Harry Potter energy to direct into other projects. I showed up at the book release party wearing a hand-made invisibility cloak, temporary tattoo lightning scar, round glasses, and hat, carrying a broomstick, with a stuffed owl velcro-ed to my shoulder.

I love Nevill. People don't seem to get how much a of a key character he is in the books, it makes me sad how much they down play his role in the movies.
I think my favorite characters are the Weasley twins, its hard not to love them. I really like Ginny in the books but I don't really like her in the movies. Oh and I really like Malfoy just because I think he is a great character that she did a lot of interesting things with.

There are a lot of characters in the books that don't get explored and developed the same way in the movies. I was really upset with the 3rd movie for leaving out all of the details of the Marauders and failing to explain Harry's stag patronus.
I don't even remember whether the movies reveal the whole thing about Neville and the prophecy... how it could have been him, but that's one of my favorite plot lines in the book.
I agree with Beth about Ginny in the movies. She's so tame and boring. And why did they change the kiss in the sixth movie? I loved the scene in the book where Harry walks into the common room and she runs at him... ahhh.

I really wish they had done extended editions of HP like they did with LOTR. I would not have minded five hour movies so that they could better explore the story. I keep wondering how they're going to accomplish somethings in the final movie since they've eliminated so many characters.

I totally agree with you. Movie three was a fail. The book is SO much better. Although I think the 5th movie was better than the 5th book, because they took out a lot of HP's whining.

I think I'm the only person in the world who liked seeing Harry get a little (ok, a lot) pissy in OotP. He was fifteen, which is a moody age for even the best of us, plus all the crap he was going through. I thought the characterization was very realistic, and I was very angry on Harry's behalf at the way he was treated in that book. His attitude just made me love him more. And the part where he yelled at Umbridge? Priceless.
ETA: I really really love the fifth book, though. I enjoy it more every time I read it.

Honestly, I felt like that the first time I read it, too. I thought it was clunky and the pacing was off, and Umbridge is such a detestable character. However, I have since read it about 8 more times (I lose count) and I love it more every time. I love the DA, Harry's first kiss (awwww), Harry standing up to Umbridge, the scene in the pensieve with the Marauders and Snape, LUNA LOVEGOOD, watching Neville become a badass, thestrals, the scene where Dumbledore takes the heat for the DA then stuns everyone and disappears ("Ah, you seem to be laboring under the impression that I'm going to... come quietly"), etc. OMG I LOVE THAT BOOK. Now I want to read it again right this minute.

You rock!
I think my favorite characters are the Weasley twins, its hard not to love them. I really like Ginny in the books but I don't really like her in the movies. Oh and I really like Malfoy just because I think he is a great character that she did a lot of interesting things with.
[QUOTE]I love Nevill. People don't seem to get how much a of a key character he is in the books, it makes me sad how much they down play his role in the movies.
I loved the scene in the book where Harry walks into the common room and she runs at him... ahhh.
[QUOTE]So pumped! FI and I are going to a pre-screening next Thursday at 8pm. AHHHH!

No the 18th. It's only supposed to come out at midnight...so we get to see it a few hours early.

[QUOTE] I really wish they had done extended editions of HP like they did with LOTR. I would not have minded five hour movies so that they could better explore the story. I keep wondering how they're going to accomplish somethings in the final movie since they've eliminated so many characters.

Ditto.
What I really, really want though is for JKR to write that Potter encyclopedia she talked about.

I totally agree with you. Movie three was a fail. The book is SO much better. Although I think the 5th movie was better than the 5th book, because they took out a lot of HP's whining.
I really wish they had just made insanely long movies and kept everything in.

I love parts about it, but I think it got way too whiny in parts, and it was really slow in some parts because of it. Its probably my least favorite of all the books though. The part where he yells at Umbridge is epic though!

[QUOTE]In Response to Re: Harry Potter!! : He hasn't read the other books yet?!?! Did you get him to read the 7th book or did he pick it up on his own? He has to read the rest! He doesn't know what he is missing! My mind gets blown when I meet people who haven't read the books or at least seen the movies. And to think there are some people who don't really have any idea about Harry Potter at all...mind blowing!

We've seen all the movies, but he wanted to read to book for the 7th one (and didn't have time to read the other 6 first). He borrowed the other books from his mom though, so he plans to start on those soon.
I have actually not read any of the books, and I didn't want to read the 7th before I read the other 6. So I will wait until after I've seen all the movies, then start reading the books. LOL
I'll probably end up going twice--once with FI (who won't want to wait) and once with mom (who will want to wait for the crowds to die down).
My favorite is Hermione because I am also an insufferable know-it-all.
I haz a planning bio
