  • Wouldn't it be awesome if the OP walked into the church on the day of her wedding and just burst into flames?  That would do a lot more to help conversion than the Jesus McNugget :).

Seriously, OP, try to have a modicum of self-awareness and at least decide where your personal beliefs stand.
  • As someone who's actually atheist, not just when the mood hits me, I think I'm going to have a Hindu ceremony, just because I can. It won't be weird, disrespectful or obnoxiously arrogant of me at all.
  • So, you're upset because your FMIL doesn't want you pretending to be Catholic so you can have a Catholic ceremony?
       I agree with her.

Now, I think trying to convert anyone is crappy.

However, I think it's extremely disrespectful of you to make the commitments required to have a Catholic wedding (ie promising to raise your children Catholic, etc.) if you have no intention of doing so.
I would say lying to a priest is not the best way to start a marriage.

If she were atheist, I'd say that wouldn't concern her.  But I would think that's a chance the agnostic in her wouldn't want to take ;)

  • OP- Even though you clearly don't care about the teachings of the church, by getting married in a church and not believing in/following those teachings, your marriage will be invalid. Forever. Even after Noah's ark and the dinosaurs are gone.
