• My H's parent's sometimes still kiss him on the lips. I don't know, I guess if you grow up with it, it isn't weird. I kiss a lot of my cousins on the lips.

Apparently not. There was a HUGE line of sailors outside of the office too. I'm going to try after lunch I guess.

[QUOTE]I should clarify when I kiss my nieces its like a peck. The pucker their little lips up and say "muah!" Its very cute.

    Yeah this exactly.

When you're a kid you have no idea that kissing is sexual because you don't even friggen know about sexual stuff (usually). I always kissed my parents and my sisters. I don't kiss my sisters anymore, or my parents, lol. I can't remember when that stopped but I dunno, it wasn't weird. It was just natural.

I do remember like, seeing people kissing on TV and knowing that it was different but never, ever made a connection between that and quick pecks between immediate family.

  • FI's family does the kiss on the lips thing, but I think it is super weird. I don't ever recall kissing any of my family members on the lips. I know it's not meant to be inappropriate, I just don't like it. My FG is only 2 and when she gives me kisses she goes for the lips, but I always turn so it's on the cheek.

To clarify there was a lot of champagne involved! ;)

And I always kiss my mom on the lips. It's always been this way in our family. But in extended family, like H's family its the side cheek glance.

  • Good morning. I'm still catching up on this thread. I woke up to my kid knocking on my bedroom door two hours late for school. Her alarm didn't go off on her new phone. So I stopped at McDs on my way home and bought a Coke and oatmeal. I love their Coke because it's made with spring water, which makes it taste so much better. Chels I'll be thinking about your grandpa, keep us updated.

I'm ranty at the article people, lol. Not anyone here.

  • This is true, jcb. The little ones are always slobbery. I used to get a kick out of watching my dad's ex-wife with her neice because she was worse than me. The girl would go up to her and ask her to hold something, open something, etc, and she (the ex) got the most grossed out look on her face. I can at least hide my distaste.

I don't think anyone has tried to kiss me outside of immediate family, and taht's on the cheek only. If someone went for my lips, I might not be able to hide the facial expression on that one.

  • morning.

I'm tired and ready for the weekend. We had a good time this weekend, but I was glad to get home and sleep in my own damn bed.

Chels, T&Ps to you and your family.

My parents kissed us on the lips, sometimes still do. I don't think it's weird. We all kiss my nephew, too. The only reason that I think I've ever heard people really object to kissing kids on the lips is to protect them from getting the cold sore kind of herpes.

I agree with this type of philosophy about most things when it comes to families. No family is the same, just like not every child is the same. We had a similar type conversation with the IL's about corporal punishment.

  • I just think there is a difference between a kid kissing you with a peck and you kind of leaning in open mouth kissing a kid. I think its important for kids to learn how to show appropriate affection. Like, if Effie starts trying to kiss me like mommy kisses daddy, then thats a teaching opportunity to show her who should kiss her and whats ok etc.

I think making a peck a big deal to a kid is terrible. She just started really hugging and saying "I love you Auntie" and I love it.

  • I agree that it's a per-family kind of thing. I think it's weird, but I'd never say anything to someone else for doing it. It's just not how my family operates but who am I to judge others for it, you know? Families are different.

I always think about that when brides-to-be come on here all woe-is-me because someone in their family is doing something crappy and the general consensus is to suffer in silence. My family, we'd be all over eath other calling one another out. It's just how we are.
  • Sesh- would you think it was weird if you had a niece or nephew who did it?

I think I might have found it strange too before I had all these little kids in my life.

I just realized you have a little blueberry now!

And I agree with this last part. I've always had young kids around me, since I have older brothers/sisters. So, when they come at you wanting a little kiss, you just cant resist. Unless there is slobber and sucker juice involved.

Probably. No one in my family kisses on the lips or even on the cheek really, so if I had just one neice or nephew who did, then yeah, it would be weird. I don't know what it will be like if/when my brother has kids (and it better be awhile before that happens), but I'm guessing that if the kid goes for my lips, he/she will get my cheek instead.

I don't really have a lot of little kids in my life so my interaction with them is very minimal.

  • I grew up in a family of lip kissers. That was also when we were younger though. Now it's the cheek for everyone.

Dont even think about kissing that 15 year old!

AATB- We have a nursing home next door and their phone number for their front desk is one digit from us. So, I get a lot of those. Or my boss will get an old woman grumping about her tea and food. But I am surprised with the huge speel they have to sit through that they still leave a message for the nurses desk.

  • Im watching Michelle Obama on The View. I have to admit that she is pretty likeable when she isnt talking about her husbands politics. She was talking about her marriage and how its going to be 20 years in October and it seems like they are a good pair.

I also like what she is doing for the troops. I wish she picked that platform earlier, but I am happy it is a cause she backs.

I still dont like her H as President though, lol.

  • We've always had little ones around, and we would kiss them on the lips till around age 5 or so. Little kiddo kisses are sweet, but I don't want to be the creepy aunt who still kisses her nieces and nephews on the mouth when they're adults (like Ross & Monica's aunt on "Friends").
