We were living together for two years (renting) and then bought a house. We were in the house for about a year before he proposed. I think it was implied when we decided to buy the house that an engagement and wedding would be put off since we invested all of our savings into the downpayment for the house. Your time is your time, nobody elses. My brother and a male cousin both dated their wives for 3 years and then were engaged for 3 years. I think 6 years until you walk down the isle is ridiculously long!! To each their own

Wow......I feel like we did it fast now....we started dating we moved in 4 weeks later and at 5 months we were engaged( that was a month ago) and I couldnt be happier! When we met and knew that weekend we wanted to spend the rest of our lives together.....We are getting marred Aug of 2011 even tho he actually wanted sooner LOL Maybe its beacuse he is 35 and I am 31 and I have been married before so we both knew what we were looking for when we met.....and sparks flew! Ha! I know what some of you are thinking! But I will burst your curiosity bubble by telling you that we've been friends for 4 years and we grew really close 6 months before we decided to date. It was not long after we decided to date that we figured out that we were meant for each other and wanted to get married.

He's loved me since we first became friends 4 years ago...it just took me a while to catch up!!! Good thing I did!

we basically started living together 2 months after we started dating, officially moved in together a year and 3 months of dating and got engaged after 4 years and 6 months of dating and will be getting married after 5 years and 4 months of dating! what a mouthful, but we knew we wanted to be together after 2 months of dating!! Some people told us that we were moving to fast as well, specifically his parents who were dating for 3 years, were engaged for 2 years and married at 5 years.

Everyone moves at a different pace, my sister and her now husband have only know each other for 2 years now and have been married for almost 6 months.

We just smile and nod when people tell us we are moving too quickly.

16 month long engagement - getting married in April, 2011.

We didn't date for long before becoming engaged/moving in together, but our long engagement put my parents anxiety at rest. 2 years is plenty of time, in my opinion!
