[QUOTE]I did one 5K that started in Minnesota, we ran over a bridge back into South Dakota then turned around and came back to the start. Kind of weird. I only have three states done so far, even though I've done about 20 runs.  NG has three capitols done, but not the same as my 5K states.

So did you count that as a 5k in both states?  You need to find some more like that. Work smart, not hard!  Haha.

  • I don't know what the elevation gain is for Katahdin and we only unpacked our CO/WY books when we unpacked here figuring we wouldn't need the others.  We did a 4 night backpacking trip and summited Katahdin on day 3.
When living in Ohio we used to do stairs once or twice a week for 5 or 6 weeks before we'd go to somewhere with elevation change to train our legs for it.  Otherwise it's pretty brutal to suddenly use those stabilizer muscles that you're not used to.
  • Heeeeeeey anyone still here?

    France was awesome.

I drank wine on a rooftop bar overlooking all of Paris, learned to ride a bike in Lyon in a maxi dress, had sex, drank champagne and smoked a Cuban cigar on a rooftop patio overlooking all of Nice, lost five euro in at the Grand Casino in Monte Carlo, drank a 19 euro mojito in a posh hotel overlooking Monaco, got upgraded to first class on one of my flights, and walked more miles than I have in the rest of my life combined.

<div>Well, I'd already done one in each by that time. That's been the only one to cross a state line though. I wonder if I could find one that had a circular route near the 'Four Corners' spot. That'd be efficient!</div><div>

Yeah, I got a little altitude sick on the first day (I think I was mostly dehydrated), and the second full day there we tried to hike Mt Washburn (going from 8600 ft to over 10,000 in 3 miles...our town is at about 2000 ft, ha), and failed.  We made it to about 9500 ft and we just couldn't go any further.  We were stopping about every 10th of a mile.

That's exactly what i was thinking!  I bet there is something like that.  That sounds like a gimmick that would attract a lot of people.

MUNI!  Hey girl, heyyyyy.  Your vacation sounds awesome!

  • WOOOOHOOOO Muni!

    Soudns like an epic trip!
    image
  • MUNI - that sounds AMAZING.  I'm jealous :).

J&K - altitude sickness can be a beast.  I've had run ins with the dehydration end of things when I flew out here for a weekend.  No fun.  When people come visit we spend the first 24 hours shoving water in their faces all day.  MIL had a really hard time with it when they were out in June.
  • Yeah, I had nasty headaches for the first 3 days, I never felt like I could drink enough water, and by the end of the first day, I was shaky, nauseous, and I felt like our cabin was on a boat (kind of a gentle rocking back and forth, unsteady dizziness).  It was really weird.

  •  I'm glad you got over it and it didn't ruin your trip though.
  • Yes, for sure!  Now that I'm back at 2000ish feet, I'm pretty sure I could go out and run my fastest 5k ever.  Ha!

  • It's funny.. my grandparents lived at about 9000 ft when I was growing up (until about 7 years ago actually) and I never remember noticing much difference when we'd go visit (from WI) as a kid.
    I miss that house.
  • Yeah, I feel like your body probably adapts a ton faster as a kid.  If I were an athlete (like, a pro-athlete or something) I'd totally go train at a high altitude.  It's like a legal form of blood doping!

MUNI, where the fudge did you go?

  • Apparently she just came in to AW her awesome vacation and left again.  Whore.
  • Whore fo' sho'.

Gah, I need to grocery shop and start laundry.  I just want to sit and write blog posts and sort pictures.  I wish I had one more day off before I went back to work.

  • Loopy, did I see that you've read A Discovery of Witches?  That was my vacation read (it's long as heck).  I'm about 2/3 of the way through.  I wasn't sure of it at first (I'm pretty anti vampire) but now I can't stop.  I was up until 2am last night reading.

<div>I have read A Discovery of Witches.  I am also pretty anti-vampire fiction, but I agree it was extremely well done.  I decided to give it a shot after Temerity Jane was raving about how good it was.  I got sucked right into the story and couldn't put it down.  I read it in like 3 days (I read fast.. and I  stayed in bed reading one Saturday until like 4:30 in the afternoon. Love those days :).  The second one came out on my birthday in July so I re-read ADoW and then read the new one.  And now I wait... </div>
  • I hate waiting.  HATE IT.

  • Heh.  H had one of his OCD moments, so I had to go clean things, then make him sit down and eat a snack and have a cocktail until he calmed the eff down.
  • I am here too!

  • Muni! You're back! I'm glad to hear you had such a fun time!
  • My H was being all OCD about the state of our desk area this morning.  He was driving me nuts.

[QUOTE]The "getting published" part is fun.  The completely anal-retentive mode that is necessary to pull the paper together is horrific. Everything must be arial font.  Everything must be high resolution.  All the data is from a year or two ago, but you better remember where it is.  This isn't centered and this color is a shade of gray off.  Good farking grief. Hey Bubs!  I hope you're feeling well otherwise!  You are often quoted on the Baby Names board!

</div><div>Oh man, that sounds frustrating. My sis is about to embark on the publishing route as she is in the final polish pass of her novel. She is excited but terrified. </div><div>
</div><div>I'm feeling pretty good, otherwise. :) I hope I'm not quoted for being a jerk. Heh. I'm kind of a weirdo about names.</div><div>

Hiya J! I've been slacking on my E stalking lately. But the proboards are pretty slow today.

<div>He was about an inch away from a panic attack.  for some reason, instead of unpacking like a normal person, he basically exploded our luggage all over the living/dining room and then couldn't handle it.  I cleaned ALL THE THINGS, then fed him a snack, a mojito and an episode of Burn Notice.  Crisis averted.</div>

Haha Muni, I do the exact think your H did. I basically dump my bags out and then go "OMG THERE'S SH*T EVERYWHERE!" and freak out at the amount of stuff. Never a good idea.
  • J- Will you feed me mojitos and snacks?  If so, it's a deal!

Glo- I'm willing to bet he was worse.  He started re-organizing the kitchen cabinets.  Which we just did last month.
