To Chipotle or not to Chipotle... That is the question!

So, I have a frozen lunch of tune noodle augratin in the freezer here at work that I was planning on eating today... Now I am craving some Chipotle. There is one right across the office park from me. I have been trying to be good and not eat out this week, go me! I got my milage reimbursement today, and my paycheck goes in tomorrow so I have no worries with $.

Chipotle is actually not expensive for the amount of food that you get. It keeps me full for hours. I totally save leftovers, too. I don't care if the guac gets a little brown. It still tastes delicious to me a couple hours later. :)  Plus it's fresh and nutrient dense food, if you get black beans, veggies, salsa, and lettuce. Even the guac has the healthiest kind of fat.

    DO IT!

I will freely admit I'm hugely biased, though. I'm having Chipotle for lunch too. :)

LOL I'm the party pooper. I voted no (before I read that you were going) so you could have the satisfaction of not eating out ANY days this week. But if I were you, I totally would have gone and gotten it! I got paid today, too, so I'm trying to decide between the pretzel Lean Pocket I have in the freezer, or going over to the student union and partaking in chick-fil-a deliciousness.

I voted 'no' before I saw you were going to get it too, lol, but I'm struggling with being good so I just voted "no" because that's what I would have wanted people to tell me, lol.

Plus, and I don't mean to offend, but I just don't get the appeal with Chipotle. It just seems like a lot of rice, lol. Maybe I just haven't had the right Chipotle experience, but I don't eat out, so I haven't tried it more than once or twice.

Do the Chik-fil-a... This Chipotle is awesome!!!

Desert- I agree, it is an amazing use of calories, I get a tiny bit of cheese and then a ton of all the veggie option but no guac (it cost extra) and I haven't been in a while, so I didn't even realize it was only like $6.50 after tax!!!

So glad you ladies talked me into it! :)

You can ask for less rice... But all the food is so fresh, and I love spicy food and Latin flavors so its pretty much the only "fast food" I eat.

I vote you try it again, because its awesome!

If it were me, I'd say no, but that's just because FI and I just had Chipotle last weekend (and I had the other half of my burrito for lunch on Monday).  But as far as just going out in general, go for it.  You've been good all week, there's nothing wrong with a little treat now and again.

I'm going out for lunch today too, but that's mostly because I didn't have anything to bring today.

I love guacomole too.  For me, I'd much rather have the guacomole than the meat!  But I've been a vegetarian before, can't eat pork, and don't care that much for their chicken. So if it's between steak and guacomole, I take guacomole.  Besides, I like to get their veggie fajita burrito. It's the best of everything. I get beans, grilled veggies, and guacomole.  Ooooooooooooh, heaven!  Now I want chipotle for dinner instead of the butternut squash risotto I'm going to make...

My sorority sisters took me to Chipotle last fall. I'd never been there before. I'm not the biggest fan because some of it's a little too spicy for me, but it's definitely delish. I voted yes because I'm one to indulge whenever I feel the need.

Side note: Am I the only one who finds the word "Guac" funny? Maybe because I pronounce it weird in my head, very hard...like.."GUAC!"

    I'm a vegetarian, so I get free guac. :)

What I get works out to 460 cals, 65 g of carbs, 18 g of fat, and 14 g of protein. I try to eat the proportion of calories sparkpeople recommends, 50% carbs, 30% fat, 20% protein. So that's a tiny bit high in fat and carbs, but I can easily adjust what I eat the rest of the day so that it all evens out.

I refuse to ever feel guilty about Chipotle.

Yaga: I never thought about that. That might be why I never liked it. I just recently discovered that I didn't like cilantro. I knew I didn't like the flavor, but didn't know exactly what the flavor was. My BF's mom is a huge cilantro fan, so that's how I found out I didn't like it. Oddly, BF's mom is a huge fan of a lot of food that I don't like. I don't think I'm all that picky anymore, but she seems to like (and make) all the foods I can't stand.

She thinks because I'm on WW that I can only have salad and chicken. So she got me fried chicken (can't eat it) and makes me salads with cucumber (don't like), tomatoes (don't like), cilantro (don't like), and avacado (don't like plain).

Free guac?! So I can choose to not get meat, but just guac for free? Sign me up! What meal do you usually get at chipotle, if you don't mind me asking, Desert? I'm not a huge fan of their meat offerings, and your calorie count is so low for restaurant food!

On a somewhat related note, has anyone ever tried Cafe Rio? It's a Chipotle competitor but they're only in select states (west coast, mostly). I <3 it even more than Chipotle. Their barbacoa enchilada-style burrito is to die for.
  • edited December 2011
I usually get the burrito bowl with light rice, fajita veggies, barbacoa, mild tomato pico salsa, medium salsa, corn salsa, a little bit of cheese and extra lettuce. This totals out at 640 calories if I eat the whole thing. Since I work out most days, this is totally fine for one meal. On days I don't work out its a little less than half my daily calories and since I use max 200 calories for breakfast, as long as I don't over eat for dinner (how could you after and entire burrito bowl) I am chillin for the day. So, I also never feel guilty about Chipotle!

Yes, FREE guac when you get a veggie bowl or burrito!

I get a burrito bowl with light rice, black beans, fajita veggies, mild and medium salsa, guac, and lettuce.

It looks like they have a Cafe Rio in Phx, so hopefully maybe they'll put one in Tucson soon!
