Did/does anyone have a 'Do not Play' list for their DJ? If yes, I'm curious to see what songs are the most hated and overplayed! So far I have a list of about 15 songs/artists that are forbidden...I guess my inner control freak is peeking out.
We have the ability to make one but in general we have just said no "gimmicky" dances and then given our dj a general idea of what we like but we trust he will read our guests and play what will keep the party going. My fear is what FI and I dont like our guests may so I dont want to rule anything out 100% because I trust our DJ enough to make those decisions.
No Lady Gaga No Katy Perry No Ke$ha No Chicken Dance No Mambo #5 No Electric Slide No-song-that-lasts-forever-and-makes-you-stomp-your-feet-and-clap-your-hands No "friends in low places" No Soulja Boy
What's wrong with some Garth, Brianna? That song came on the radio this weekend and I told DH that our neighhbors kid growing up sang the song for everyone at church during service once
We had a do not play list and some were played anyways.
While I enjoy Gretchen Wilson, we banned all of her songs because I knew it would tick some off. We didn't want rap songs or Creed. That's all I can remember.

Hahaha that cracks me up.
The only really gimmicky dance we did was the Cupid Shuffle.. cheesy? Yes, but everyone participated.
We let our guests request things, the only thing that was really forbidden was Michael Jackson because at the time I thought I'd die if I had to hear another one of his songs again.

No country (I might pick one fast and one slow country song, though)
No cheesy typical wedding songs or group dances, with the exception of the Cupid Shuffle because I actually like that one and it's been played at all of my friends' weddings.
Definitely no Creed, but I don't know who would play Creed at a party anyway.
FI's requests:
No Baby got back or the Apple bottom jeans song - my mom gets a little wound up when those come on and it's a little embarassing.
That's all I can think of right now, but I'm sure there's more.
Anna--I'm with you on 'Low" (Apple Bottom Jeanssssss Boots with the furrrrr--awesome, now it will be in my head all night!) my mom is the same way. I have a feeling that every time a new song comes on that I will be nervously looking at her for a reaction and try to play interference if she turns up her nose. Yowza. Somehow she LOVES Fergie? Not sure how that happened. I will be allowing Josh Groban for her listening pleasure.

I'm not so good with the advice... Can I interest you in a sarcastic comment?
I say only Country if someone requests it and no rap. Melody let me choose which "cheesy wedding songs" I was okay with. I actually gave her a list of all my favorite songs that I deemed danceable (lots of 80s) and by the end of the night, she just went down the list. I am an awesome song-picker, though
Random: we used "Pour some sugar on me" as our cake cutting song because I had a running joke with friends on how it is the most inappropriate wedding song ever. Jay's mom told me a few weeks later one of Jay's cousins used it as his first dance song
I actually liked the group dances as they get people having fun and being goofy out on the dance floor. I actually don't mind the Cupid Shuffle or the Chicken Dance or the Electric Slide.
When we came up with our play list, we excluded anything by Celion Dion, country, we did nix the Macarena
Hot Freaking Dang!!!!! Y'all would absolutely HATE my wedding...and I mean HATE!!!!
FI and I are having a list already for music. We both know it will change. Our DJ basically to keep our "must play" list short, but feel free to list as much as we want on our "do not play" - The funny thing is, we hired a total "sub-culture" DJ (because, well, we are a bit sub-culture) so my cheesy pop music that I want played: Cupid Shuffle (because it's cheesy, but fun - and a group dance w/o being the chicken dance), Pink & Lady Gaga is stuff my DJ will actually have to get, because she doesn't have anything like that

We allowed him to play the gimmicky dances. That was when everyone had the best time. My autistic cousin was dancing more than anyone else and he knows all of the songs.
I actually gave him a list of songs that we wanted to hear and then told him to fill in with similar things after my list ran out. We didn't have any country because our family and friends don't really care for it. I listened to country at A&M but have kind of fallen away from it.
Did you know that Garth Brooks has not made his music available on iTunes?
We have a do not play that include Britney Spears, Boy band (Not counting Boys II Men), Lady Gaga, Country, and many things above. I went ahead and gave a huge this of appopriate songs. With Indian and American songs so if he sticks to the list we shouldn't have a problem

I wouldn't classify Boys II Men as a boy band. They are more of an R&B group. IMO
We gave a few "Do not play" songs just because they annoy us like the Macarena and the Mambo #5 but other than that we told the DJ to just keep it going. My family usually dances to the group songs and my niece loves the chicken dance so I'm sure she will request it. We are letting the guest do request also. I figured the only way they will have fun is if they here what they want. The only restriction is no "rap" songs that will offend people.
