I have never been this close to getting into grad school next year with my dream advisor. I know it's not really the same, but it's what I'm thinking about lately. Got my application sent in & interviewed. Now it's time to wait and see what the fate's have in store for me.

Woo Very exciting!! I'll keep my fingers crossed :) What are you going to Grad school for?

Thanks! I need all the fingers crossed I can get. ;)

I'm going to get my master's at UNCW for marine biology - specifically studying whale morphology (how whales work!). It's exciting, but a really competitive & underfunded field.

Pot roast! It's my favorite. Get some onions, potatoes and carrots. Chop them up coarsely. Get a big chunk of roast (I think I use a different kind every time I make it...usually whatever is on sale), season it and brown it on all sides. Throw it all together in the crock pot. You can cook it with just water but I always use beef stock and french onion soup. It adds so much flavor. The last time I made it I also added a little bit of red wine and it turned out delicious!

Never have I ever...lived in another country. I would love to live somewhere else for a few years. Australia would probably be my first choice.

Brandy, I would love to do something with marine biology...I LOVE sea turtles. My idea of a perfect day...snorkeling on the GBR watching for fish & sea turtles :-)

Yeah, I think anyone could tell you that. Not a big fan of those Seaworld shows. Just because you can keep/train an orca, doesn't mean you should.

I'm looking to go into research, not training. Most of my interaction with dolphins & whales are after they have died and stranded on the beach. They are used to collect samples for studies all around the country to help understand the animals better as well as diagnose how f-ed up we are making their lives.

On a side note, crock pot pot roast is delicious. I use carrots, onions, celary, and potatoes in mine. And I cook it in a mixture of beer & water - one can of beer and then the rest water to cover most of the roast while it cooks. Crock pot spaghetti sauce is also pretty easy & good. Check out the Better Homes & Gardens website - they have yummy recipes and ahve a bunch just for crock pots.

I love snorkeling! When we went to Hawaii we swam with manta rays on the Big Island. It was absolutely amazing. They would come within inches of you. Fabulous.

There's a lovely lady here at UNCW that studies sea turtles. If you end up in Baltimore, you might be able to go visit Woods Hole. I have no idea how far away they are from each other, but that is like the premiere marine biology institue on this coast.  -- Okay so I looked it up & it's 9 hours away, so maybe not. Oh well.

Never have I ever...driven across the Mississippi river.  And I want to.  The only time I've been west of it is when I flew to California when I was 15 and stayed there for a week.  I don't feel like that counts.

Dito all the pot roast recipes posted already.  It's FI's favorite meal.

I also like to do an orange chicken variation - I dump chicken wings in the croc pot with a couple tablespoons of flour, stir it around so the flour kinda coats the chicken (I'm never exact on that) then add orange marmelade and barbecue sauce (more marmelade than sauce) and cook until the chicken falls apart.

Also - chicken breast with rice (NOT the quick-cook kind) shallots, mushrooms and white wine are really good in the croc pot.  Sometimes I add carrots too.

My "croc pot timing" rule is always 8 hours on low or 4 hours on high.  My croc pot doesn't have a timer so I always go with that.  Also, I don't really measure so sorry I don't have more exacting recipes.

OK, I freaken love sea turtles! The Honu spirit!  It's the heart of our wedding festivities.  They're on our cake, my and my bridesmaids earrings.  They are just such wonderful creatures.  And I love the symbolism and traditional imporance of family and guidance that they represent in the hawaiian culture.

I was lucky enough to see one while diving in Belize this past fall.  FI had to help me keep my regulator in my mouth because I was freaking out!

::Totally Butting in::  We just booked Secrets Capri for our honeymoon in October! (with the Hurricane Insurance just in case)  It looks so beautiful and we can't wait.  Krystal, I will be excited to hear about your trip!  (and Amanda too if that is where you guys choose)

I love turtles! Not just sea turtles -- when I moved in with FI I had to box up a ton of turtle knick knacks because I have so many and I didn't think FI would appreciate them.  Glad to see so many people enjoy turtles, and what a cool idea to incorporate them into a wedding!

We just started emailing with Jennifer at VIP regarding our honeymoon in Italy.  I was surprised at her quick responses!  Made some edits to her suggested itinerary and waiting to hear back from her now :)

As to the original post---never have I ever gone skiing (which since I am from CO causes a lot of raised eyebrows).

I make 2 easy and delicious things in the crock pot.  The first is BBQ chicken breasts.  I buy a pack of "split chicken breasts" (usually there are 3).  Then, I pour "George's" BBQ sauce (made in NC) all over the chicken.  Cook on low all day until the chicken literally falls off the bone.  Mine cooks pretty fast so it usually only takes maybe 5-6 hours.  The other is beef stroganoff (with stew beef...not ground beef).  I'll have to post that recipe when I get home.

After you posted that a while ago, I have made that pot roast recipe already, TWICE, the second time for my in-laws, and it is SOOOOOO good, and so easy. I threw slightly browned (in a saucepan) mushrooms in the pot about an hour before the roast was done. DELICIOUS. Served over mashed potatoes. YUMMY.
