Well me and my FI came up we thought with a great idea for our favors. A bell which you can we can put a photo of us or thank you note in and a ribbon with our name and date of the wedding. My mother doesn't like this at all. She think that we shouldn't do anything because favors just get tossed and we should donate money somewhere. I am all for giving money to charity, but we like what we choose. What are other people doing for theirs?
I think those are cute, but if you want to make sure your favours won't get thrown out or go to waste (no offense, but I would throw that out once I got home unless you were my sister or my best friend or something just because I'm not that sentimental and into keeping trinkets around), you could offer an edible favour instead if you really want to have something to offer. These generally go over well with guests. Something yummy they can enjoy at the wedding or once they get home!
We're (likely) doing small jars of strawberry freezer jam. Strawberries usually come into season mid-to-end of June where I live, but I'm hoping they'll be a bit early this year because we had a mild winter and spring. If we can't do jam because the strawberries aren't ready yet, I'll probably do some chocolate chip cookies or something.
We are doing macaroons. Each guest will get 1 pink and 1 green in an acrylic box tied with a bow.
I was at a wedding last year that gave out bells for the ceremony. Just be prepared for your guests to ring them quite a bit at the reception for the two of you to kiss. Not going to lie, it did get a bit annoying and you could tell that the B & G were getting tired of it. Fortunately it began to wear down after the first 45 minutes or so.
We are doing 750 ml bottle of Valpolicella wine - Fi and my favorite wine! The wine bottle will have one of our engagement pictures on it, and than attached (somehow) keeping with Italian tradition, we will have the confetti - 5 sugared almonds symbolize health, wealth, happiness, fertility and long life. Making 160 of these were NOT fun! My poor grandmother said it was like peace work from the war, but she still insisted on doing the bulk of them!
Midget - I love your idea! So much fun, my brother would love this for his wedding next year will def be telling him!
We aren't really doing favors. We might be doing a donation because FI wanted to, but I told him he's in charge of it so I don't really see it happening. We went to a wedding recently where they just had the nicer matchbooks out on the bar and it was enough so we plan to do that. I just can't justify spending a few hundred on items that people are going to throw away anyway.
We are doing pressed pennies with our names and wedding date on them (FI and I collect them when we travel) and sticks of Roman Candy, FI"s favorite candy from his home town, New Orleans.
We're making homemade strawberry jam in 4 oz. mason jars. I'm going to make a cute label for the top of them too!
People tend to be fans of an edible favor. Most people don't need random things like that and honestly, I would think it was more table decoration for a placecard than something to take home.
We are doing confetti: Jordan almonds, alternating little bottles of flavored olive oil as basaltic vinaigrette, and two curling stone magnets per person. The magnets are one of our nods to the way we met, curling. We're incorporating it with our cake topper and colors, too, but that's it. Summer isn't really a good time for a winter sport theme haha.

I love it, especially since a vast majority of your guests are from out of town. They'll love it!
Now I want to go get a smiley face cookie. *drool*
We are doing pie in a jar (little half pint jars). We have made over 100 and froze them. Then we will bake them right before the wedding and will be set out at the reception.
We have little tiny beach bags (that match our theme) that we will put a cookie in. And we are also giving out hand fans at the ceremony (because it will be &#(*&% hot!!)

Mini apothecary jars with York candy pieces (the candies are blue and white, so it matches our wedding colors with shades of blue).

We're doing these favor boxes that double as place cards!

Ditto Kelsey on the edible favors. Even if they don't like that food, someone else at the table probably will or they take it home to their kids.
