What did they call the American first-print version of book one? I can't remember but it's not Philosopher's Stone is it?

And yeah, it's the Philosopher's Stone in the British version.

I go there every time I'm over. It's my favourite ever. Did you go to the Golden Fleece? The 500+ year old pub? Best. Yorkshire. Pudding. Ever.
And I know what the Brit one is called! Hahaha. What was the US one called?

I get that the early books/movies are pitched more at kids, and I really like the fact that they grow as the kids in the books get older (it's one of the ways that I try to get naysayers to read them - I think JKR does a great job on teenage development and psychology). But I still think Chris Columbus is a hack. Cruddy cutting, cruddy pacing, cruddy editing - they may be more true to the stories in the books, but as movies, they are amateur.
I didn't like Michael Gambon at first, but he's growing on me. He gets a little more Gandalf-like with each movie, and I always kind of thought of Dumbledore as like Gandalf, but with a goofier sense of humor. I don't know if Richard Harris' adorable old man take on the character would have worked in the later stories, when we realize that Dumbledore is so complex.

Definitely going to have to agree to disagree here :)
I don't at all see Dumbledore as a Gandalf-like character. I can see why you'd draw the comparisons of the two there but I don't think they're alike so much at all, the complexities of each character render them vastly different. And Richard Harris could've owned later-movie Dumbledores. Oh man. Have you seen some of his earlier stuff? Buddy had death-stare chops like there's no tomorrow (Cry, The Beloved Country? Holyshitballs). I just think Cauron made it way too theatrical and over the top and tried to hard to make Dumbledore kooky (which admittedly, he's referred to being that way in the books, but not so much as he's portrayed as the great, wise, protector, "the only one he was ever afraid of" figure - and I can't support old 'Voldy being afraid of a nutcase in a fez, it's not believable to me).
