[QUOTE]I can't stand tunnels, either.  I'm always convinced they're on the verge of collapse when I'm inside them.

<div>When H and I were at SeaWorld, we went through the Shark tank tunnel. There were so many people in there on this little moving walkway, and I could hear it creaking. I just kept having visions of the walkway breaking, which would make the tunnel break, and we'd all be crushed by tons of water and then the sharks would start biting everyone in a panic. I almost had a panic attack in there.</div><div>
    </div><div>There, I think I covered everyone's fears. HA.</div><div>
</div><div>This weird thing happens to me a lot where I have these, not really visions, but worst case picture just pop into my head. Like when I went up in the Arch in STL and freaked out because I just pictured the whole thing falling over.  </div>

[QUOTE]In Response to Re: Silly things you're scared of : Im like that with bridges. I sometimes have nightmares that i wil be driving on a big high bridge and when I get to the top it turns out they didnt finish it and everyone is driving off the end. The thing that sucks is that you have to drive over a huge ass bridge in both directions to get out of the area I live in (unless you want to take long detours)

I have to cross the Mothman Bridge once every year and it terrifies me. If I make across without the bridge collapsing, I still have to worry about that big ol hooligan swooping down and fuuuucking me up.

    Lol no thank God.

I'm also deathly afraid of driving under overpasses.  I kiss my palm and touch the roof of my car when I drive under them.  And I refuse to come to a stop under one.  If that's where I'll end up in traffic I just stop with an enormous gap underneath me until I can go without having to be stuck under there.  Eff that.

[QUOTE]What are silly things you are scared of, or have a weird irrational aversion to? I sometimes wake myself out of a doze at night because I realize I didnt check the ceiling - I have to turn on the lights and inspect the ceiling before I can get back to sleep. I realize thats pure silliness. What about you?

This is not pure silliness, this is real concern. I feel the same way I like that mine automatically lock. And even when I put it in park, only my drivers side unlocks.

I wake myself out of a doze because I feel like I cant swallow. This is mostly due to my sinuses, Flonase has helped, but it's still scary.

Oh, SEWF - the Arch.  I was terrified it was going to fall over when we were at the top.  It doesn't help that those little windows created an optical illusion that it actually was falling.  Plus the creaky cramped elevators.  I had visions of being stuck in there long enough for everyone to starve to death.

  • Flying loaded is pretty much the way to go.  I'm a nervous wreck during takeoff and landing, it is awful.  I'm okay once we're in the air usually, if I don't THINK about the actual act of flight, because ffs you are hurtling through the air at like 500 mph 30k-ish feet up in the air.  That is damn terrifying.  A few summers ago our flight to CA was delayed a couple hours so Ben and I spent some time drinking in the airport bar.  Best flight of my life, lol.

<div>It's much more enjoyable to be drugged up and flying. I'm terrified of flying, but had to do it without drugs last time. Not a fun flight. What did help, though, was reading up and the science involved in flying. It's like getting rid of the fear of the unknown. My MIL used to be terrified of flying, too, and then she took flying lessons. She just got back from Denmark, where she went just to run in a marathon.</div>

Oh god Mara we have those all the time. I have no real fear of bugs, but those F'ers get me every time. I was cleaning the counters the other day and moved and appliance to clean behind it and one came running out! I screamed at H to come kill it. He "killed" it and put it in the trash bag, which I made him take out because those things do.not.die!

  • I love the Shark Tunnel at Sea World.

For real though, when I was 14 years old, a sea gull shiiit on my face at Sea World.  It was right after the dolphin show.  My entire family was in tears laughing at me while I was bawling my eyes out.  Some random lady whipped out a wad of napkins to help me wipe off so I wouldn't have poop all over my face and hair on my way to the bathrooms.

  • flying is probably the safest way to travel. On a daily basis I schedule jet engines to endure some ridiculous testing to make sure that planes are safe. Hell I've first hand witnessed an engine being lined with ammunition, blown apart a couple of blades, and still maintain at levels well enough to keep the engine going and land in a reasonable amount of time.

  • I agree about moths, lakes, clowns and creepy-crawlies. Screw all that, dude.

Sometimes I feel brave, and other times I feel like a total weenie. Like this morning when I got into my car, H had left the windshield wipers on last time he drove it so they kicked on right as I turned the ignition. I jumped and started looking around, thinking there was a bat in our carport trying to fly into my car (I didn't have my headlights on either, so it was pretty dark).

Speaking of being pooped on, I'm terrified of crows. There was one time when I was living in an apartment, I had to take some trash to the dumpster. There were hundreds of crows in the trees over the parking lots. I got pooped on in like six different spots. Luckily I wore my coat and hood and threw it in the washer, but still, ick. Now crows scare me. Plus, they remember EVERYTHING.
