Ladies,
Are you guys having a cocktail hour for your reception? If so what do you plan to serve as appetizers? Some of my first choices are little shrimp cocktails on ice, fruit kabobs, and cheeses. Im wondering if that is going to be enough though.
What are or was some of your ideas?
Re: Appetizers for the reception
Probably a fruit/cheese assortment with mini eggrolls.
Now if money permits I would like to have mini burger sliders with a mashed potatoes bar.

I recently went to a wedding reception and she had a hour before the actual reception where we got to eat goodies...some of them were:
mini eggrolls
fried butterflied shrimp
grilled chicken skewers
beef skewers
lettuce cups (baby lettuce leaves with meat, onion, etc)
rumaki (scallops wrapped in bacon)
cheese, fruit and crackers
and an open bar
I was full before I even got to sit down to dinner...which was fabulous! The mashed potato bar is an excellent choice--it will make people full.
The newest trend I have seen regarding reception food is the 'Station'. Even if you dont want a full-fledged sit-down or buffet reception, the 'station' set-up is a good option.
You can get a stirfry station, pasta station, potato station, sushi station...or even themed stations like the Philly station (all foods native to Philly). Any reputable caterer should know what to do if you ask.
This web site is where I'm having my reception. On pages 4 through 6 are examples of the food stations:

I hope this helps...

We are also doing the fruit and cheese displays and an open bar. Still trying to figure out a signature drink so that's a possibility.
