Silly things you're scared of

Re: Silly things you're scared of

  • Glad I'm not the only person with irrational fears.

I'm terrified of bugs. And not just like "Omg a bug!" It's more along the lines of a full blown panic attack. The worst are those cicada things and those stupid brown-shelled beetles that go towards lights. H will leave the light on by the door and I'd literally sleep in my car until he got home at 7 am so I didn't have to face them. I like snakes, sharks, spiders, and pretty much anything else as long as it doesn't have 6 legs.

I also watched The Exorcist apparently too young because it stuck with me pretty bad. I LOVE scary movies, but even mentioning that girl will send me into a panic.

  • Never been pooped on by a goose, lol.  But my mom got shiiit on by some sparrows three times in an afternoon once.  That was pretty effin funny.
flying is probably the safest way to travel. On a daily basis I schedule jet engines to endure some ridiculous testing to make sure that planes are safe. Hell I've first hand witnessed an engine being lined with ammunition, blown apart a couple of blades, and still maintain at levels well enough to keep the engine going and land in a reasonable amount of time.

I just have a problem with the take off and landing, my stomach gets all floopy.

They call those June bugs here and I hate those things.  The sound they make as they slam in to the window repeatedly is so disturbing.  Around this time of year, there can be tons of them flying around and the sound gets really loud and creepy.

  • Okay I'm not afraid of them - but they seriously gross me out - overripe bananas.  I just ate half a banana at my desk and had to throw the rest away because I could feel that part of it that I hadn't peeled yet was really, really soft.  I cannot handle that crap.  I would have barfed all over my desk.

  • Locusts freak me out.  Especially when there is a lot of them.

See!  Birds are evil!  I think they target people and then get their kicks by pooping on them.  I guess it's better than pecking their eyes out a la The Birds...but not by much.

  • June bugs are fuggin SICK.

  • I've been pooped on by dozens of kinds of birds, daily at one of my old jobs. The worst bird poop ever is from the loon. It was a known rule to hold the butt end out when carrying a loon. One girl wasn't thinking and carried it face-out and the loon releaed a huge load and squirted poop right on her crotch area. It was disgusting and hilarious.
  • I guess I just need to carry a blow torch with me at all times then. Do I have to get my concealed weapon's license for that or is it okay in colleges and banks?

  • See, I can normally handle most bugs, but the ones that are abnormally large are what get me. For instance, I can handle daddy-longlegs or jumping spiders, but banana spiders/tarantulas/wolf spiders, EFF THAT. Same with snakes. Little green garden snakes are even kinda cute, but a Burmese python that can eat an alligator like it's a tootsie roll? No way, Jose. Oh, and don't even get me started on Jerusalem crickets (or, potato bugs as I call them).

One thing that has never gotten to me is heights. I love being up high, I feel so free. Flying is fun, I rarely get rattled. But, put wedge me in a cave with hardly any air or light, and I will freak the eff out.

  • When I was still running a staffing agency, I had a company that I had been trying to get as a client for about 2 years. I FINALLY got them to agree to meet with me. Their office front was pretty much all glass front. I got about 3 feet from the door and a fuuuucking pigeon swooped down and started attacking my head. The son of biiiiitch scratched up the top of my head and shiiiit right down the front of my suit. The entire office staff saw the whole thing. I walked out to my car and called in and said, "hi this is the woman that was just assaulted by the pigeon, I'm assuming you don't want to meet with someone covered in bird poop and bleeding from her forehead, so can we set up another meeting?" I was so freaking embarrassed when I had to go back for the actual meeting, but I did end up getting the contract. I like to think it's because I was an awesome sales rep, but likely it was because they watched me get shiiit on by bird.

When I would mow grass at the farm swallows would swoop at me the whole time.  The old farm it took four hours to mow, the newer place - all day, like an 8 to 9 hour job.  They never knicked my skin but my hair was always interesting by the time I was done, lol.

DMills that is so flucking funny.

  • I got pooped on twice last weekend but I honestly don't know what it was. Do bugs poop? Cause it looked more like a bug poop than a bird poop.

I'm afraid of walking under tall buildings. They sway in the wind and it always looks like they are going to fall down on me.

I am also afraid of showering sometimes. I will peek behind the curtain because FI loves to scare me when I'm in the shower (I can't lock the doors to the part of the bathroom with the shower). I got him back though really good this weekend.

  • Haha omg Dmill that's amazing.

Once I was wearing some pretty huge sunglasses (big enough my nickname was Sleestak from my parents) and a bee just buzzed about 5 inches from my face for a good minute or two. It just kept hovering right in front of my face and I was freaking out. My mom was dying laughing and said it probably thought I was it's mom. :/ I just freaked out over a bee and all she could do was make fun of my glasses.

Nah, see that grass would not get mowed. I love my birds, but they need to stay away.

When we were in London we walked through a throng of pigeons, and one almost hit me in the head.

  • Man whats with the Clown haters?

I almost was pooped on in London, that would have been fun. And we had to walk through throngs of pigeons and one flew right at my head. I'm fine with birds as long as they keep their distance.
Put me on the bench with clowns and water that I can't see the bottom of but not because of sharks because of killer whales.  When I was a kid my mom thought quality time with the kiddos meant watching horror movies with her toddlers.  I was about 4 I think when I saw Orca and I have been terrified of killer whales ever since.  I am overly creeped out by germs, oh and lice.  At that tea party my sister threw for her kid this weekend she had made all of these really fun hats and the kids were changing them every ten minutes.  All I could think of was LICE, LICE, LLLIIIIICCCCEEEEE!!!!!!
    Posted by Dot Dash
If I ever get lice, I will seriously contemplate shaving my head. I'm not joking, that shiiit freaks me out.

  • When I was growing up I was really protective of my sisters - sometimes I still feel that way.  When they were old enough to start going to school and riding the bus with me I was always afraid for them that they'd miss their connecting bus after school, so I'd wait for them and always be praying they'd show up, lol.

Now they are mostly grown up - I don't worry about my married sister much anymore, since her H takes care of her now.  My sis in college though, she is applying for dental school so I will be worried sick for her when she moves away.  My youngest sis who graduates high school next year, I'm always worried about her.  She's kind of naughty, lol.  Plus transportation is so dangerous where she lives.  She has an escape hammer in her car in case she ends up in the lake, but yeah - that's not really consolation for me.

DH did this to me.  ONCE.  I didn't know he had come home, and he came barging in the (tiny) bathroom and pulled the curtain aside.  I screamed and burst into tears.  I was so agitated all night and thought I was hearing things, so I made him get up and check for intruders in the middle of the night.  He won't be scaring me that anytime again soon.

  • I have a fairly overactive imagination and I have seen way too many horrors movies. I spend way too much time waiting for someone to be standing behind be, hiding under the bed, or lurking outside my door. I get freaked out when I have to go to the basement of our building at night. I think people are going to come murder us when we're staying out in the woods.

When I was a kid I had a terrible time sleeping. I felt like I had to keep my eyes open or something would get me. And yet I loved horror movies and ghost stories.

I'm not sure how silly these things are now that I think about it...

I do have an irrational fear of sharks in bodies of water they can't inhabit though. That's pretty silly.

Not entirely irrational.  You may want to read up on bull sharks - you'd be surprised where they've turned up ;)
