<div>It's just red velvet cupcakes. I'm using a box mix for the cupcakes, but I'm making the frosting from scratch.</div>

When I do box mixes, I substitute 1 cup of buttermilk in place of the water and use 4 eggs (usually the mixes say 3) and the regular amount of oil. The cupcakes come out almost spongy, and really easy to frost.

Okay now I am going to be a busybody because I love red velvet cupcakes. My fiance and I tried to make them after having them at Magnolias and couldn't find any recipes that tasted remotely like red velvet. So, after a long and hard search, we finally found this one:
http://chowhound.chow.com/topics/388523The icing is a pain to make but honestly it is incredible and tastes much better than the usual cream cheese. I'm not a big icing person but I eat this right out of the bowl. And I do substitute melted butter for crisco in the actual cake recipe.
ETA: No idea why the font went weird?

Btw, Any, where is your dress from? It looks like one from Pronovias that I really wanted to try on.

<div>It's Caldera by Blue by Enzoani. </div><div>
</div><div>And this is the recipe I'm using for the frosting:</div><div>
    </div><div> <a href="http://www.glorioustreats.com/2010/02/recipe-cream-cheese-frosting.html" rel="nofollow">http://www.glorioustreats.com/2010/02/recipe-cream-cheese-frosting.html</a></div><div>
</div><div>I've tried it before, but I didn't add the extra cream cheese, so I'm going to do that this time. It was yummy, but definitely not cream cheesy enough.</div>
  • I almost got an Enzoani dress. The Diana, I think? The fit was so nice.

I clicked on that link and my mouth instantly watered at the pictures of the cupcakes. I don't really like cake, but I love cupcakes. Weird, right?

I did an elbow length one with crystals along the edge.  My seamstress did a removalble blusher for it.

  • Any- If you're crazy, then I'll be crazy with you. You can't tell me there isn't a difference.

Nates- Thanks! I was a little nervous buying the sample but it really did feel good on.

Blue- I am rolling my eyes at you being chubby. I didn't think a tulle ballgown was going to work at all for me but for some reason this one just looked right, you know? I love the shape of your dress. And man, oh man, that train! I can't imagine how you bustled it.

Ladies, where did you get your veils from? Is it worth it to get the "designer" ones?

<div>Same boutique that I bought my dress at. It was 200 bucks, and hell to the no it's not worth it. I loved it, but if my mom hadn't insisted on paying for it because she liked it so much, I would not have bought it.</div>
  • Bought mine on Etsy and it was the same thing as the one they showed me in the bridal salon, but I wanted an absolutely plain white veil with a pencil edge because my dress had so much going on. I think it was like $36 and it was elbow length.
  • Good to know. I am leaning towards a very plain veil for that exact same reason, Nates.
  • If you want a plain veil, I'd go the cheap route.  I don't know how great the beading would be on a cheapie, but my pencil edged veil was perfect. Macy's thought it was their veil at one of my fittings, lol.

I think the seller is in my bio, if you want to check her out (if not, I have it somewhere). She made sure the length would hit right above where the ruffles started in my skirt and made sure the pencil edge was a similar length to the edging on my skirt.

Thanks!  It was a bolero, I wanted my shoulders covered in church.  I actually wish I had worn it more during the night.
