STARVING!!

Re: STARVING!!

  • Eggs are great for breakfast, tend to keep you more full. Stay away from refined sugars. Also watch for high fructose corn syrup--it's the devil. If you see it in the label, put it back. I snack on nuts and baby carrots a lot. High fiber foods will also fill you up.  but also allow yourself things like a cheeseburger once in a while, otherwise your craving will hit you with a vengeance and you will go overboard.

  • Um yeah, following WW that way is not cool. Like I said, I would rather see someone eat clean, but some people are picky just will not eat veggies and so on.

  • what does "eating clean" mean? Also, WTF is the cookie diet and should I look into this?
  • Yeah, I am shiitty about eating my veggies, but I do what I can and eat a ton of fruit/take a vitamin.I guess pretty much any system can be perverted, though.

  • This is what I had the most success with (when I actually tried.)Eat small (ie. @ 300 calorie) meals 6 times a day (about every 3 hours).  Your body only really uses that many calories in that time anyway.  Whether you eat a big meal, or a small meal, you are usually hungry within 3 hours of eating.

  • I eat as many veggies as I can, but they give me super bad gas :0 The cookie diet is stupid propaganda. http://www.smartforlife.com/ Eating clean is just basically eating stuff that is not prepackaged. http://www.eatcleandiet.com/ I follow the low gycemic diet that was made for diabetics, but it works well for anyone who wants to shape up in a healthy manner.

  • what does "eating clean" mean? It's a term coined by Tosca Reno, I think.  I don't follow it, for the record, but I generally eat pretty clean.  Eating clean basically means avoiding processed foods as much as possible--nuts, organic meat and dairy, beans, fruits, veggies.I like the Lou Schuler system much better, which is basically if there is more than two degrees of separation between a natural state of being and what I'm eating I try to avoid it.  Like, I'm fine eating ice cream every once in awhile because hey, I can imagine a cow being milked and it being churned into ice cream.  I don't eat crap like Twinkies because there's way too many degrees of separation between anything remotely natural and the end product. And the cookie diet is the dumbest thing ever.  Don't do it.

  • I would kill for a twinkie, but I stay away.

  • This eating clean thing sounds interesting!
  • You should try it Cubs. I love it.

  • Yeah, and I should also mention that I am not absolutely fanatical about that.  Generally, no, I won't eat a Twinkie.  Once in a great while I get a craving for junk food and I'll eat some to get over it.  I just don't make it a regular thing.  I try to eat healthy-ish treats on a daily basis so I don't feel deprived.  I eat natural frozen yogurt, Larabars, Kashi cookies, dark chocolate squares, etc pretty regularly.

  • You can't be crazy about it! You'd GO crazy. I still have my beer sometimes. I also have a cheat meal every other week.

  • Actually, WW has the new Momentum program this year.  It advocates "filling foods" these are the ones that you should be eating - fruits, vegetables, etc.  They recommend you monitor your hunger through the day, eat 5-6 small meals and meet a certain number of servings of dairy, protein, fruits/veg, oils and whole grains.  Since joining, I've switched to a very low glycemic way of eating simply because that's what works for FI with his diabetes and it's really the easiest and most filling way to lose the weight.Eating my entire day's worth of points (which is more than 1200 cals) does nothing for me, leaves me unsatisfied and I wouldn't last at ALL on the diet.

  • That's good to hear, wading.  My mom and sister did it a few years back when I think it was more calorie-driven and less nutrition-driven.  It didn't end well.

  • I don't fill full after a meal unless I've had carbs. I will literally crave a slice of bread after a massive salad, otherwise I won't fill full.when you go on a diet where you limit your intake you can actually gain weight because your body goes into survival mode and hangs on to more of what little it is getting. eat many smaller meals in your day, drink water before eating, and eat smart. you can have a burger, just don't make it a dietary staple.
    kablah.....that is all.
  • A lot depends on how someone views the plan.  Sure, I could eat nothing but junk food, but that isn't going to be healthy long term  I want this to be something I continue to do once I hit goal weight, I need it to give me energy to do what I do during the day and I'm really concerned about getting the vitamins and minerals I should be consuming. Most days I'm a tad low on protein simply because it's high in points and not all that easy to prepare for lunch.  I try to supplement with dairy that's high in protein, but that isn't always easy either. The thing is, if people aren't ready to change their lifestyle, joining weight watchers isn't going to be enough to make them like vegetables and put the effort into preparing food for themselves.  I spend about 1/2 hour to an hour a night preparing my breakfast, snacks and lunch for the next day.  If I don't, I quickly go off course and eat things I shouldn't.

  • That is so true wading!  There is so much time spent in preparation!  I think that is why I kinda "fell off" as I got closer to the wedding.
  • Great advice ladies.. Thank you for helping me through my mid-day low sugar have to fit in my wedding dress freak out. I need to be better about going to the grocery store and whole foods market and I will be fine, also starting back with my trainer tonight he is giving me free sessions until my wedding as a gift!!!! LOVE HIM!! It is like freakin boot camp but he is awesome
  • To Brie, you realize that every woman is different? BMR depends on your weigh and your height. I'm fairly short and if i was to eat 1500 calories a day I would either lose weigh so slowly it wouldnt matter or I woudn't lose weight at all.My BMR is currently around 1400 with me being a slightly active (light exercise 1-3 times a week) person. I typically aim for 1000 a day if I'm trying to lose weight.
