Hi, ladies,I need to vent. I had an interview last-minute a few weeks ago. When I got there, I was told the position had already been filled. Fine, miscommunication. They interviewed me anyway and told me I should consider testing and/or going back to school to get certified to teach French and maybe they could offer me a half-day position. I elected not to do that because 1) the testing is expensive 2) the test is beyond my abilities and I would need to return to school and 3) there is not much of a market for a French teacher, so if I didn't get the job, then what?So today I go to the job interview almost 2 hours away. The guy was very nice. I was being interviewed to teach TV Production. I have to do one of those Meyers-Squibb type tests for personality, fine. Then I am told (he was like "I gotta be honest") that they're not sure the TV Production job is even open; it will probably go to a current employee's child who needs a job. So they say they like me and will I get certified in reading for them? It involves taking classes after work, but I'd begin teaching the subject right away because they really need Reading teachers. (He asked a previously applicant to do this and was waiting to hear if the district would let him put uncertified people in the positions). So he calls me this afternoon when I got home to ask me about it. He said the district said they'd let me if I promised to begin doing the classes right away. I really didn't have time to think about it, so I went with my gut; I told him no though because it was so far away, we'd have to get a second car, it's not in my field, and lastly, I just got my master's, I'm not ready to go back to school again yet. (I just told him it wasn't a good fit, I didn't give him all those reasons, LOL!)Did I make the wrong choice? I realize it may have opened some doors down the road, but at this point, it felt like they just needed bodies to teach it and were willing to take anyone.Note to interviewers: Please bring me in for the position for which I applied. If you want to interview me for other things, why not ask me over the phone if I'm open to such and such position so we can both best maximize our time? Vent over! Sorry!
