I never thought something so small would turn into such a huge deal!My huband's father and uncle LOVE James Taylor. They have some emotional attatchement to his music. I asked the DJ not to play any James Taylor. His music bums me out, and I hate his voice. I don't how he found out, but the uncle is refusing to come now. Too much drama!!! This is my day to be happy. Why can't he understand that?What should I do?

    Your FI's uncle sounds petty and childish. He can listen to James Taylor all he wants whenever he wants, why can't he go one night without it? I don't get it. If I were you, I wouldn't do anything.

    Sound to me like you're being selfish.  Surely you can handle one James Taylor song played at your wedding.  It's your FI's wedding to you know, and his dad is about to become your FIL.  Learn to share and compromise now or you're doomed.

    Really? Huh. There are some pretty extreme reactions on both your ends. Just add their favorite JT song to the playlist. Make sure you know when it's coming up and plan a potty break around it so you don't have to listen.

    Frankly, I think you're both acting stupidly.To not come to a wedding based on the music that will be played is dumb.  However if he interprets the lack of James Taylor as a slight against him I might understand that he has hurt feelings.You're seriously thinking it's appropriate to say, "FI, why can't your uncle understand that it's my day?"You're new here aren't you?

    Clearly I'm in the minorty, but either way its a stupid thing to fight about. If he REALLY isn't going to come due to music choices, obviously you can compromise and include it. There's music I like but FI can't stand, we're leaving it out - it's one night, I can go without hearing 1 or 2 bands that I like.

    Besides, I bet you won't even hear it anyway.  I know at our reception I was so busy talking and socializing, I couldn't even tell you what songs were played and what wasn't.

    If you knew they liked James Taylor before you asked the DJ not to play it, you're a total douche.  I can see how they would interpret that as a slap in the face.As for this: This is my day to be happy. Why can't he understand that?It is not your day.  It's yours, your FI's and all of your guests.  When you invite guests it ceases to be all about you.  Grow up.

I'm so lucky that the girls I speak to on theknot are nothing like you...I would've never come on here for ADVICE if I would've encountered a big a bitch as you. I genuinely feel awful for your children or your future children, and I think it would be irresponsible of YOU not to invest in their future therapy sessions starting now.     Ok, well first of all, you're being a brat.  One song won't kill you, I promise.Second, if uncle is threatening to not come because of a SONG, then I can't see why FI would even want him there.  I mean, grow up, for real.

    I think it's hilarious that everyone is focusing on the uncle not coming.   You did notice that FFIL also loves James Taylor, right?  And princesspoo knows this and still requested no James Taylor.  (From the dj she booked for her wedding in almost a year)Way to make the future in-laws happy.

    His uncle wears alot of twead jackets which would be against my dress code anyway. I'm willing to compromise any day except my wedding day. He can go wax philosophical with some "Fire & Rain" at home.

    I think a dress code is in order here.  Tweed makes marriages null and void.  If the tweed comes with leather (or, heaven help us, faux leather!) arm patches, well, there's nothing for it...you're doomed.Sorry.  I think just having this tweed wearing, James Taylor loving deviant in the family holds bad things for your future.
