Venue Help!

Ok, since my wedding is not until August of 2011, and you ladies are more experienced at this wedding planning than I am I need help! I am currently looking for a venue. I have an appointment set up for Magnolia Ballroom to check out next week, then in August I am going to check out Ashton Gardens, one week after that Safari Texas Ranch. I wanted to know if anyone else knew of any other venues off the top of your heads that I should check out. Also, what things should I keep in mind while touring and discussing the pricing etc., One more thing! Once I get the venue what should I start doing next? Any help would be greatly appreciated Thanks!

first off- welcome to the boards! We'd love to know more about you and your FI!As for venue help- what part of town are you wanting to stay in (if any)? How many people are you expecting? Are you wanting to have the ceremony & reception there? Also, do you know what sort of feel you are wanting?

Decide what you think your budget might be because Magnolia Ballroom, while very pretty and centrally located, in on one end of the 'cost spectrum,' and Ashton Gardens is on the other.Do you know what you and your FI want to spend?

Hi! Sorry if I missed meeting some of you ladies on my introduction post! I started coming on the board on 7/17. I have copied and pasted my intro: So my story is a little backwards...I actually got married on August 13th 2008, but only through the court. No small ceremony or anything just went got married and that is it! We were both still in school and although it was in the spur of the moment that we got married we didnt want to have a rushed wedding or "express" wedding. So here we are now more stable in both of our careers and we are getting married on August 13, 2011! We decided on that day since that is the day we orginally got married and we didnt want to have 2 wedding anniversaries! I am very excited about the whole planning from the church wedding to the reception! This is all new to me and I am super excited! We plan to do the whole 9 yards on the festivties except the engagement party. Hope to talk to some of you guys in later discussion boards! Ok, so the area can be anywhere as long as it is not to to far away! I live in the Clearlake area so, We dont mind the venue being like an hour away or so. We just want to find a nice place. The budget originally had been 40,000, but ever since I joined the knot I have seen some pretty good DIY ideas from the website and here on the boards so maybe we can actually reduce it! We would not mind doing things ourselves. I wanted to keep the wedding list to around 130 guests only. I do want to have the reception and the ceremony at the same venue for sure. I do not know the sort of feel I want for the wedding. Any suggestions? Thank you all for welcoming me! :)

I'm actually doing mine at the Admiral on Clear Lake....it is a gorgeous place....and it should be alot closer to you than in is to me (I live in memorial/ spring branch area), its very reasonably priced and you can bring your own vendors...I would definitely check it out.

Mine is a little on the higher end but I'm getting married at Briscoe Manor in Richmond. It's a beautiful facility with a chapel, a courtyard for cocktail hour and a reception area.

There's a new place they just finished building in the Garden Oaks area. I know it's owned by some other popular venue in Houston, but i don't remember which one. Anywho, it's off 34th St and Shepard---this is in the Garden Oaks area, not far from the Heights. I drive by this place every day and i love it. It looks like a building from Italy. It's awesome. They have a phone # posted on their sign right now....sorry, i don't have it. You should check it out and let me know how awesome it is?

If this is the right one, it looks pretty amazing! It is called the Tuscany Gardens & Villa! Hopefully they have good pricing!! It said something about their previous venue being bankrupt though. Not sure if this is the right place is the address: 835 West 34th Street?

I agree with the budget you have set & the number of people- you won't have any trouble choosing a place.Magnolia Ballroom is wonderful. I'm having mine at The Tuscany Villa out in Katy. Rockefeller Hall. Hotel Icon or Zaza.Really you will need to decide what sort of feel you are wanting. For instance if you like more modern things- hotel Zaza could be a great fit. Or if you like a vintage glam feeling- then maybe hotel icon. Or the country club look.Keep checking in with us. The girls here are great.

Since u are in Clear Lake, you should really check into Cullen's with that number for your guest list.

They aren't called that anymore. The 1st place screwed over a lot of people,  but someone new owns it and completely renovated it. I went and checked it out over the weekend. OMG, it's amazing. I am now booked there. They have the best service and the people are so nice. You will love them. It's called The Bell Tower on 34th. They will be fully booked in no time and they aren't even done with the place.  If you love high class, then go.... I'm completely excited about the place.
