In Response to Re: What is the worst thing you have ever cooked? : Same here...  Sometimes I like to pretend I'm my mother who is full blooded Italian and an amazing cook who just throws a bunch of sheeit together and it turns out awesome... then I remember I am not her and go back to following recipes, when what I have prepared tastes like crap.
Posted by lbarr088
Sometimes I'm successful at making what I call "random sh!t", but it's usually something simple.  Like I threw chicken breasts, spaghetti sauce, bay leaves, and italian seasonings into the crock pot and cooked it.  Serve over pasta with some cheese.  Simple stuff though.

• I also love making pizza from scratch.  I've made some interesting ones, too.  Like pizza with garlic sauce, crab and scallops.  So delicious.

MP If your interested, I think I have a cookie dough recipe that is eggs free, and pretty tasty if I remember correctly.

• Does the coke salad come with hookers?
• Special, we thought about putting the bowl right back in the freezer, but it had to dry first.  Then my anti-clutter husband actually put the darn thing away.  It's on a shelf above the freezer.  I just need to go get the step ladder and get it back down.

• Meg, if you plan on eating just the dough, can't you just leave out the eggs?  Or is your recipe intended to be baked.  What's the usual switch for eggs?  I know it's applesauce for butter/oil.
• I tried making red and green pepper sauce to go over pasta (this was during my vegetarian days). It came out horrible. I can eat very little green peppers now. As for red peppers, forget it!

I also attempted red velvet cake pops a few weeks back. I did a horrile job and I still don't know what went wrong. It was too gooey and basically seemed to be nothing but frosting and grainy and horrible!

Oh and I fail at using the Wilton Candy melts on anything. It just does not go on right!
• I just eat the dough, eggs and all.

salmonella be damned.

And I also make dough from scratch just to eat dough.  The effort makes it taste better.  Like victory.
• I kind of wish I had a prettier KA mixer. Mine is a white 6 quart heavy duty one. I'm so glad I have it, but I kind of wish it was red. Oh, well. It was a birthday gift about six years ago.

<div>Haha I feel dumb.  Yeah it looks like most cookie recipes just sans eggs.  Maybe some extra milk too? I used it to make cookie truffles (chocolate cover cookie dough). So good.</div><div>

Once I made meatloaf with saltines that were 6 years expired. I didn't realize how old they were until I popped one in my mouth to munch on right before I took the meatloaf out of the oven. 5 years later, and H still asks me to make sure to check the date whenever we use crackers for anything.

• I made pancakes from scratch, but when I pulled out the whisk and started mixing, I found all sorts of little black specks in my batter. The whisk was painted black and had rusted out and the pieces were in my batter :(

Something else I made that was disgusting was a crockpot chicken recipe with salsa and cream cheese (I think. It was all over the Weight Watchers community sites at the time, supposedly delicious). Sounds great, smells nasty. I couldn't even try it. Garbage it went and out to dinner for us!

• I agree, Edie. The KA factory is near my house, and H wants to take me there. I don't think he knows what he's getting into, since I'd want to leave with every pasta attachment and a meat grinder. I don't even know that I would use the meat grinder. I just want one.

This is how I feel about the mini deli slicers you can buy for at-home use. I'm pretty sure I would be too lazy to use it, but I still want one so bad.

• I want the pasta attachment so much.  I have the nickel/silver colored KA and I like how professional it looks.  I wanted red at first but my mom talked me into upgrading for a "better" model, which didn't offer colors.
• i tried to make chicken tikka masala using a store-bought paste in an attempt to convince FI that indian food is not terrible.  it was the worst thing i've ever eaten and failed to change his mind.
• Ok, I found a recipe for coke salad (no hookers, and that's cherry coke, for the record)

2 pkgs. cherry, black cherry or raspberry Jello
1 (16 oz.) can crushed pineapple
1 can sweet cherries or Bing cherries
1 c. pecans or walnuts
12 oz. Coca Cola
4 oz. cream cheese
Drain liquid from pineapple and cherries. Heat to boiling. (Will be about 1 1/3 cups.) Pour in Jello and mix well; cool. Mix in 12 ounces Coca Cola and refrigerate until thickened. Add pineapple, cherries and nuts; mix well. Refrigerate until jelled.

Has anyone else ever seen that cookbook dedicated to commenting on disgusting pictures of food, usually from 1970s cookbooks?

• I tried to make cheesy ham and hashbrown bake that used evaporated milk. Except I'd accidentally grabbed condensed milk without realizing it -- they're on the same shelf at the grocery store. It was sooooooo sweet and disgusting. I almost cried because I wasted a huge pan of food, and I hate wasting food.

I made sugar cookies with rancid vegetable oil at Christmas....oh man. They were awful.

The worst thing was probably my attempt at pomegranate glazed salmon-I soaked the salmon in pomegranate juice, which turned it this really unappetizing shade of gray, and it didn't cook evenly-half of it stuck to the pan and burned to a crisp, the other half didn't cook through. Nasty.
• The worst thing - shrimp in curry sauce.  I mixed in curry powder, grocery-store bought curry sauce, and evaporated milk, with red pepper for extra kick.  In my head I thought it would be delicious, but it tasted so horrible, I couldn't even eat it.
• I'm coming in on this way late but I'll share anyway. I LOVE gnocchi with pesto sauce and have tried several times to make it with a powder packet of sauce. Once it came out way too watery, another time it was burnt, another time way too thick (all with the same type of mix). I eventually gave up and FI decided to give it a whirl. It came out perfectly! I swear he did something special but he won't admit it.
• I accidently made sage brown butter sauce, for gnocchi, with salted butter.  Poor FI started eating it a few minutes before I sat down, and managed to keep a straight face and keep going.  I took one bite and spit it out with a horrified look.  Its sweet he would eat my cooking even with a nasty screw up though.
• I once tried to melt dark chocolates in the microwave, but in stead of the chocolates getting melted the container melted.
