Re: Baby name

  • J is now calling one of our cats Santa Claus Dinosaur, and just named the other one Sex Roast Beef.Haha! I just asked T what he would name the dog if he was named after stuff he likes. His reply- "Pizza pie French Fry"
  • I dunno. I'm hardcore Twilight (yep, I admit it) and I'd totally name my kid (middle name of course) Harry - for Harry Potter - if I ever had one ;) I just don't see what's wrong with it, to be honest. I think people assume that Twilight should be 'teenagers only' and are scornful about it rather than read it and see what the fuss is all about. I mean, if you've read it and don't like it, that's fine (and I'm the first to admit that I can write at a more cohesive level than Meyer can) but all those people who judge without having any knowledge irk me to no end. And if she wants to name her kid after something she's a huge fan of, that is a compliment to the artist/author, is it not? Just my opinion... :)

  • I totally see your point alix, I guess with Harry it's not so immediately obvious you named your kid after Harry Potter. With Cullen, Twilight is going to be the first thing people associate the name with. I suppose though, in a few years, by the time the kid gets old enough to say his own name, maybe the frenzy will have died down and he won't get made fun of for being named after a vampire ;)

  • And I totally am in love with Twilight as well, not gonna lie :) Should've admitted that as well!

  • Honestly, if someone named their kid Cullen, I would have no idea where it came from and would probably think it was a family name. I am not Twilight educated.
  • See that's my thinking. Twilight-mania isn't going to be around forever and by the time he's old enough to understand, it'll just be his name (and probably the name of several thousand other sons of Twihards) whereas to his mom it'll be a name that stems from something that meant a lot to her at some stage in her life. Anywhoo... I must now go feed my vampire obsession a bit more by getting my True Blood fix. :)

  • Alixza, Good point..people have the right to name their children whatever they want, to an extent (godzilla is a little out there...). I too love twilight...my (personal) problem with naming my child after a character from the books is because of the popularity of them. I'm not really a fan of super popular, common names.
  • I actually love the name cullen as a first name.  Not because of Twilight. Although Twilight made me think of it, I do like it as a first name and imagine it would have some sort of irish origins.

  • I love twilight, but it's a guilty pleasure. The series isn't exactly a great work of literature. Meyer's character development is crap, although I thought I saw some signs of improvement in Midnight Sun.I don't have a problem with naming children after literary characters, if the character is strong. But, to name a kid after a twilight character... well, you may as well name the kid after a sitcom character.

  • Haha lp! I am very sad about Midnight Sun :(

  • If you are going to call him Cullen, why not just name him Cullen? And at least it is not Edward Cullen XXXX :)
