Re: J&K+8?

  • I've gotta say, I've been on team kate pretty much since the beginning. But yeah. I'm watching it.

  • Well poo, then I missed a new episode. I'll see the second one I guess. Good thing it'll replay 800 times tomorrow.

  • I am. I've always liked Kate.

  • How could you have liked Kate? That lady has been one nagging argument away from off her husband. That being said, she does seem to be handling it well. And Jon is probably just enjoying being able to live out his own thoughts, but I hope he still gives a hand with the kiddies.
  • I've always been on Kate's side as being an excellent mother. She does seem to be pulling through well. Can't stand Jon anymore. And yes, watching now :)

  • Sarah - I can't really put it into words. There's just something I've always liked about her. She comes across as a great mother, IMO.

  • I agree that she seems to be doing well. I can't say I ever liked her before now, though. Jon was way more of a sympathetic character than her, what with her railing on him for breathing wrong and all. Of course, all that's changed now, but still. Didn't used to like her at all.

  • Great mother, yes. Wife, not at all. My grandparents raised 6 kids in a 3 bedroom house and the one thing they always told me was that neither of them was the decision maker, that they always decided things together. This went on for my parents and for me and Tim. Kate never seemed to let Jon have any say, even with the kids "crooked houses," she just couldn't let him do it on his own, she had to butt in. If you are constantly criticizing a man or fixing what he's done, then eventually he will stop trying and stop doing.
  • Really up until they announced they were getting a divorce, I wasn't sure about her. I'll absolutely agree that she's a fantastic mother though. At times she's a bit high strung, but I can't imagine having 8 kids and NOT freaking out every once in a while. I felt sorry for Jon there for a while, but he's definitely coming out looking like a tool.
  • Did you watch the episode about the crooked houses? His reasoning was stupid, hers was logical.
  • So let him do it wrong and eff it all up to make him feel like a man? Oh fuuck no.

  • I agree, hers was a better idea, but you have to let him make some sort of decisions. He was taking care of it, he was doing it, he was excited about it. She should have shut her mouth and let him do it and take pride in it.
  • I don't think his reasoning was terrible - he wanted them back where they wouldn't be photographed. Doesn't really trump her reason, but it wasn't totally out there.

  • Maybe the reason I've always liked her is because I had a hunch that her husband would one day prove himself to be the tool that he is. I've never liked him much. He always seemed to be more into himself than his family. I don't know any anyone else's DHs, but sometimes mine needs a kick in the butt to get going. And I provide that figurative kick in the butt.

  • I'm not saying stroke his ego, but you can't argue with everything he says, especially when it's his project, when he's the one taking charge. I don't like the way Tim sets up the pillows on the bed, but I will never, ever say anything or fix it because he is happy to help. His ironing, well he sucks at it, but I won't ever tell him it's bad or wrong because he's doing his best to be helpful. And when he put up the hammock and it was slightly crooked and it bothered me a bit, but he was so happy about his job well done, I kept my mouth shut. It would hurt/upset me if someone kept pointing out what I was doing wrong or kept taking over.
  • Huh. So lie to him. that doesn't sound like a good plan either.

  • He always seemed to be more into himself than his family. Def. moreso in the past year. I think in the first few seasons, it wasn't that way, but he's def. withdrawn.
  • I could criticize every little thing, I'm pretty particular, but it's not helpful to criticize and if he's willing to help, then I'd like for him to so do. I'm not so great at washing cars, esp. windows, but he always likes my help. I'm just saying that if you constantly put anyone down (husband, wife, kids, etc.) that eventually they stop trying. I think she did this, whether unknowingly or not.
  • And this might just be my personality, but if I didn't know how to do something well, but still wanted to help, I'd probably ask questions about how to do it right. I'd be pretty pissed if I was always doing something wrong and no one ever told me because they were afraid of hurting my ego.

  • I agree with you, with bigger things, yeah, please tell me what I'm doing wrong. I just think, as a viewer, she seemed to always be cutting him down. Eventually, you have to let some things slide and just lay off of him. And for Tim, he knows he sucks at ironing, it's obvious that I do a better job, but he tries really hard to do it on his own, so my help or critique isn't going to make it better. I'm just glad that he's doing it, it's a big help. I'm pretty hardon myself without anybody else's help, I just couldn't imagine living so that everything I did was disputed or corrected.
  • Sarah - I agree that you shouldn't constantly correct your spouse, but there has to be a point where you say eff it and guide them. My feeling is that if you don't say something early on, it'll only snowball into bigger things over time. Amy - It's upsetting that some people believe that Kate in essence deserved all of this because they disagree with her behavior. I don't think anyone deserves something like this.
    image
  • Sarah - Keep in mind that editing most likely contributed to what viewers saw of Kate's behavior. Sure, you can't make that stuff up but TLC can tweak it however they see fit.

  • I can see what you're saying, but it's a reality show. And as much as they say it's "reality" they end up being characters and show us thirty minutes of a whole week. He took vows. He knew her personality going into it. It doesn't give him the right to cheat on his wife. And, I think if any of us had 8 kids, our worst would come out more often than not at times, too.

  • ggmae, agreed. Although I'm not too worried about all of our clothes being burned from Tim's ironing. I did step in when he was overfeeding the cat and when it came to building his credit score. ANd if I were Kate, I would have said something about the houses, but jeez, she always seems to be breathing down his back. And I'm talking about Kate G. way more than I care too right now. I'm chatting about her, she's making big money, I'm not. So yeah, I'm done.
