Anyone around?

I'm here watching millionaire matchmaker even though I hate Patty.

We just got home from H's family thanksgiving in new jersey. I'm freakin exhausted. 13 hours a day non stop with his family equals a tired girl.

What are you up to? Is the board dead or is it me? We haven't gotten any vow renewal questions lately.

We had 20 for dinner on Thursday. I had forgotten how loud my little grand-darlings (sometimes anyway) can be when all 6 of them are together. We proceeded to hit food coma and then I just got hit with that horrid feeling when you know you are getting sick. My throat has felt like gravel ever since.

Shopped on line and got some darling new wine glasses online at Younkers for 67% off as well as a few other things. Pretty much have no life til I go back to work on Monday.

Ugh, Patti is soooo obnoxious! And if I had to spend 13 hours with FI's family, I'd likewise be exhausted. Hopefully it was good food at least?

I'm sitting here next to a sleepy FI and puppy. We have been teaching her all sorts of tricks - she's already got "come", "sit", "stay" and today she mastered "lay down", "crawl" (under a bar) and now we're working on "roll over". She's so incredibly smart and picks up on things so quickly (not that she's consistently obedient, like any puppy, but she KNOWS the tricks even when she CHOOSES to ignore us. But if we have a piece of turkey in our hand, she'll do anything and do it consistently). Anyway, we're working now on designing and we're going to build an obstacle course in our backyard so we can train her on that. She seems to REALLY love training and learning tricks, so it should be a really fun family activity! Plus it gives us a fun space to leave her to play since it's fenced in.

Hi Hike! I'm here! For a little bit.

I haven't been around here all weekend. It does seem kind of dead.

FI is making homemade pizza and we're watching some vietnam show on Nat Geo.

This is a random question but the wonder years is on Netflix but I can't find anywhere to buy. Anyone know if they sell it? I want it for Christmas!! Kmm- sorry you're not feeling well! :-( Cal- awesome job with the pup. We picked up ours today and I missed them so bad! We took them to a kennel that has them out of crates ALL day playing- from 7am until 10pm. They go in for an our nap at noon but other than that, they run wrestle and play all day. Needless to say, Geno and Ike are sacked out! Have you ever heard of fly ball? Some of my friends dogs do it and it's a good training activity too. Spiffy- what are you putting on the pizza?

    Hey ladies! I'm here too!

I'm having a lazy night on the couch since H is on duty. I spent most of the day doing some more Christmas shopping and I also saw Breaking Dawn earlier today. The board has been a bit dead a lot lately, but it's usually like that around the holidays, everyone just has so many things to do!

I am surprise we haven't gotten any VR or TTD stuff lately though, we used to get them so much!
  • edited December 2011
Cal- I'm glad the training is going well!! The obstacle course sounds like it would be a lot of fun!

FI's neighbor is an old German lady. So FI has this new crazy idea that he wants to learn some commands from her and when we get a new dog he wants to teach it commands in German. Haha, it should be interesting.

It's been dead for days. I mean it's understandable with the holidays, but thats when I have more time to play around on TK!

I'm drinking Rolling Rock, which now always makes me think of you Hike!! and watching food network! The Iron Bowl ended with a win for the Tide so I've already had a few and it's only 7:30, so I figure I should keep drinking right? until at least 9.Wink

Rolling rock! A girl after my own heart! Enjoy it lady and definitely keep drinking. I could use a few beers after this weekend but I don't want to be hungover for my only day off tomorrow. (I don't count 13 hour days with H's family bring off).

Hike- try Amazon.com.. I think I've seen it one there cause I'm a huge fan!! Growing up people would tell me that I looked like Winnie (still do, especially H's family), and I even insisted that people call me "Winnie" for a while.

Hike - I just googled "Fly Ball" and it sounds super fun, but my puppy is odd in that she does not seem to like to fetch! She'll play for a minute or two, but then she gets bored and just lays down to munch on the ball. She'd much rather FI and I stand on opposite sides of a field and one shouts, "Sasha, come!" and she goes sprinting over, then when she gets there, we say, "Sasha, sit!" and she sits, and then we'd feed her. Now we've added, "Sasha, stay!" and we back up about 20 yards and she sits perfectly and then say, "Good girl!" and she comes bounding over to get a piece of turkey meat. When we found a low bar, we did the "Sasha, crawl!" and taught her to crawl under the bar to run between us - it was hilarious and awesome! Anyway, she seems to love obstacles and tricks

Sorry, I'm such a proud Momma! But FI and I had a blast with that, and Sasha LOVED it! So the obstacle course is now on FI's high list.

So glad to hear you have such a great place to board them! I'm all worried, because FI is headed to visit his family from Dec 16-22nd, and I'm going up to visit my parents from Dec 16-18th. Obviously these plans were made before we had the pup, so we need to find one of our friends to watch her. Sadly, most of our friends are law students and they're done with exams so most of them are leaving by that weekend. I really don't want to board her now, as she doesn't have her rabies shot yet, and she's not fixed yet, and she's got separation anxiety anyway.

AHHHH Sami I'm totally gonna call you Winnie!!!! YAY!!! LOL!
Anyway, I am watching FI play some Madden 12, while I drink wine and eat cheese and crackers. Fun stuff. OH! Who was telling me about Cupcake Red Velvet wine? I wanna say it was either Winnie, or Irish... Anyway, I bought some today and will be drinking it tomorrow! I am so excited to try it! Hmm, other than that, I am pretty happy with how things are going here lately. I've been thinking about how lucky we are to have purchased all that we have (the couch, TV, Xbox, fancy brooches for my brooch bouquet ((LOL)) ) and still be able to afford this wedding. IDK, I'm just really thankful. Ewww, I'm getting mushy again. Excuse my mush, ladies.

Hi ladies! H and I just watched the movie Hall Pass, and now I'm just being lazy and he is playing his game. We went to Target today and got a few cheap DVDs, but that was all we did. Last night we put up our Christmas tree though. I was fighting H about putting it up because he'll be gone, I'll be home for Christmas, then I'll have to put it away myself, but I finally gave in.

Hike - Miami is a place where everything that you take for granted elsewhere in the country does not exist. I don't trust anyone here to do what they say. They'd totally have a "showcase section" where it looks all nice and that's where you drop off and pick up your dog for a boatload of money, but then I'm sure they'd have a poop filled pen in a dark closet where they stuff the dogs while the parents are gone. Seriously. I don't trust ANYONE here. So I'm really nervous about leaving my baby with anyone here except a friend! We have a few people we're going to ask before we look at boarding her. And honestly, if we were going to board her, I'd probably just bring her with me - it'll cost $200, but it's better than paying $150 for her to stay in a shithole.

Hike, I've got a VR question for you. Is it okay to punch someone in the face for having a VR and callig it a wedding??

Backstory: Ok, my [work]friend's husband is also military. His good friend has this WAY annoying GF. I mean, she's just rude, mean and generally hypocritical. So the guy gets orders to Korea, and gets a loan for a $10k ring then pops the question. She's already annoying but give her that and it's so horrible I've had to tell my friend I won't come over if that girl is there too. She's mean and mean to my kid, I don't care to be around her. Welllll a few weeks ago I get invited over for a farewell dinner for the guy and of course I was suppose to help cook, etc so I decide to put up with this girl for one night. The entire time all she could talk about was married life and how yes, they were married(apparently just a few weeks before that) but they never got their wedding. I already don't like this girl then she wants to complain about not getting her PPD. I called her out on it, and I'm sure you could guess that it didn't go over very well. I told her the same things everyone on here gets told and she would not let it go. "A wedding is when your loved ones are around to celebrate it with you" how about NO, it's when you said I DO. She tried to tell me I was wrong for calling her JOP a wedding. It just escalated from there. I got to where I didn't want to be around her for another second, so I went home. Anyway, I really have no rhyme or reason to this but y'all were bored and as soon as you said VR it reminded me of her. Then I have to see her stupid FB posts on my friends' pages so I just clicked on the X so I don't even have to see them anymore. She's just one of those people that gets under my skin, KWIM?

So who's up for a GTG to go punch someone? I think my wedding stress could be put to good use...

Wow, Shay & CAB, those girls sound like darlings.

Kudos to you, Shay, for not nodding-and-smiling at her nonsense! I personally don't have anything against a PPD as long as someone realizes it's frivolous - that they already had their wedding day and appreciate the choices they made, rather than complaining that they somehow got jilted out of their "dream wedding" that they "deserve". If someone says, "Ya know, we got married because it was what was right for us, but we really want to celebrate with family & friends, so we want to have a big traditional 'wedding' even though we already had our wedding day", I wouldn't mind. But to play the victim... yikes!

Shay, I also want to hear more about your kid! Boy or girl? How old? Come on, brag a bit!!! I assume this is from a previous relationship? How does your FI get along with your child?

Hike, I wish you could babysit, too! I totally was thinking, "Which Knottie is close enough that I could beg/bribe them to babysit?" but sadly the closest is AMH, I think, and she's 5 hours away!

Ask and you shall receive! Beware, this might be a bit long.

Colton is 5, and is from a previous relationship. At my last duty station I decided to try something out of character, have some fun and date a guy I had known, knowing that he would be PCSing like 3 months later. I wound up with brinchitis that winter and that's when I found out that BC is not effective with certain medications. So, along came a baby boy. His dad and I wound up both here in FL and tried to work things out a few times. Ended up getting married in 09 and 5 weeks after that he left for Korea for the 2nd time. After months and months of fighting, arguing, and him drinking diaper money away I had had enough and told him I wasn't happy.
Part two: FMIL(who is one of my closest friends) was my manager at Pizza Hut when I was in high school. I was 17, FI was 13 and the middle child of the 3 boys so they were all like annoying little brothers at times. He had a crush on me from day one and everyone always told us we would end up together. Fast forward through my bad relationships, a child, and an unhappy marriage. In March of 2010, FMIL called me hysterical. FI and his younger step brother had been out at the ATV park riding dirt bikes when his step brother lost control of his bike and hit a tree. FI tried to save him but he passed on impact. I got approved for leave and headed straight home. FMIL has always been a 2nd mother to me and I wanted to be there for all of them, not to mention the fact that her step son was special to me. After 4 long days of stress, grief, planning the funeral then actually going through it, I lost it. FI and I were finally alone for a minute to talk and things started hitting me pretty hard. Life is never a guarantee, tomorrow is not a given, and every moment we have should be cherished. FI packed up a few things and headed back to FL with me. I called XH and told him I couldn't spend another minute of my valuable life with someone who so obviously didn't really love me. He admitted that he didn't and never had and that he only married me because he thought it was the right thing to do since we had a child. I should have taken it as a sign when he was so drunk at the ceremony that he could barely repeat his vows.

Well we live and learn and then find out the one we needed was there the whole time. ;-)

CAL- have you thought about getting your pup into agility? Or is that what you are working up to with the obstacles? If she is a terrier mix, she would kick A at that.

I'm driving back tomorrow and can't wait to get back to my apt. even if H isn't there. Trouble is my mom is driving back with me then flying back on Wes. She wants to wait until Monday but I have to send out my weekly care package to H on Monday! I'm already going to be baking all night tomorrow.

Beach- I'm keeping our tree and decorations up until H gets back. :) Although your H will be gone a lot longer. I don't care if people look at my goofy. lol

Yep, we've already started looking into it! It wasn't a thought we had at all originally, but she seriously LOVES learning tricks - FI suggested as a joke teaching her how to 'crawl' and she just ate it up and learned it instantly. Seriously, people don't believe she's a puppy and that we've only had her a week! She's seriously smart and loves learning.

We're going to build our own puppy-safe course in the backyard, starting with an A-ramp and a dog board (like a balance beam) and weave poles, and add pieces as she grows (like jumps and teeter-board). We're going tomorrow to Home Depot to pick up some pieces and start building. Sasha has quickly become my favorite hobby. FI is just glad that we have something new to talk about and work on besides wedding stuff - we're both a little obsessed!

Why doesn't your Mom help you bake? Or why don't you make it and mail it from your parents' place?

I'm a big fan of Christmas whenever - we did Christmas in August this year for no good reason, and it was really awesome. I'm sure both of your DH's will love to celebrate when they get back!

I love it! I'm going to steal that. Colton just got a DS for his birthday so that's pretty much his world right now. He loves the typical Cars, and most Disney type stuff. I'm actually having a hard time trying to figure out what to get him for Christmas. He doesn't really need anything and I'm sick of buying toys that hardley get played with. I'm leaning towards the new LeapPad though, it seems interesting and more of a learning tool than the games he plays on the DS.

Aw, yay! I'm a big fan of educational (but fun) things as gifts. We're getting FI's 9-month old niece a few books for Christmas. I love your idea of getting Colton a LeapPad! She's a little young, but that's a great idea in a few years.

FI and I have had long talks about how we're going to try to keep Christmas from being a greedy-gimme event with our future hypothetical children. A limit to the number of gifts, pick one gift to donate to needy children, etc. We'll see what we actually decide, but it will definitely be focused on family and food rather than gifts!
