Stuck in Iowa, Need Knottie Knowledge!

Hello ladies, it has been awhile since I have posted... but work, school, a new puppy, and moving will do that to you :) First I want to thank you all for the previous bakery suggestions it was so helpful! I am once again in desperate need of some local knottie knowledge! I live halfway across the country and am not from Pittsburgh so I have been having a hard time finding venue options. I have narrowed it down to what I am looking for... something in or around the city, the reception inside, but with the option of guests going outside on a patio or balcony, and something intimate. The wedding is October 2010 with about 100 guests. The chapel is Heinz Chapel. Places I like so far are the Phipps, Heinz Center, & Edgewood Club. Any other ideas/suggestions? I would whole-heartedly appreciate it. Also, does anyone know where I can find some wedding photos of the Circuit Center or the Edgewood Club? Thank you all for helping out a relocated Pittsburgh Bride! :)

I was at a wedding at the Heinz History Center. The cocktail hour was on the main floor and the reception upstairs in the larger banquet room. There was access to the terrace. It was very nice, but the room itself is kind of plain. I looked at it for my wedding, but it wasn't big enough four our giant guest list and the pricing was a bit high for the caterer in my opinion...but the food was good.  I've no other reccos, though, sorry. Good Luck!

The University Club just reopened this Spring.  They have a balcony. It would be very close to Heinz Chapel.  We had looked at this venue for my daughter's wedding, but we had too many people.Richard Iams, the General Manager at the University Club was really nice and helpful. The website is www.uc.pitt.edu I think McBride had her reception at the Circuit Center.

Hi. I had my reception at the Edgewood Club (I'm assuming that you don't mean to say the Edgewood Country Club). I have tons of pics in my Bio under Wedding Pics, but will include a couple inj my next post well. I LOVED it there. If you need any info about it, let me know. Good luck!

I went to a wedding at Heinz Chapel last October and the reception was at Soldiers and Sailors. The venue is beautiful and it is right down the street, so we were all able to park under Soldiers and Sailors, walk to HC, then walk back for the reception. It was very convenient!

What about the PAA? It's right by Heinz Chapel. I also like The Children's Museum, National Aviary, Pittsburgh Center for the Arts, Science Center, and Warhol Museum.

try the pittsburgh golf club.  the downstairs has a balcony, but I think there is an extra fee for access to the balcony.  www.thepittsburghgolfclub.com

I always recommend the Frick for a smaller wedding- it's gorgeous!  With your size you could probably have the reception inside the mansion somewhere but still have access to the outdoor grounds, which are lovely. I'm living right next to you in Illinois!  Yeah Midwest :)

Ladies, thank you all so much for your input and ideas! Living so far away, it is very helpful to have other brides opinions! :) dreamalotmp and mcbride, thank you so much for sharing your wedding photos; both your weddings were gorgeous! I think I am leaning towards the Edgewood Club. Dreamalotmp: Did you like working with everyone at the Edgewood? If you could do it all over again, would you still hold your reception there? Thanks again!

I'm late to this, but the University Club also has beautiful chandeliers, if I might say so myself, I got to put the crystals on them LOL.

SamTim: I would definitely have my reception at The Edgewood Club again. Get in touch with Ron Gallagher. He is SO great and fun. Four things: 1) Try to get Ron to agree to be present the night of your reception. He wasn't there for mine. There was someone there, but she wasn't as helpful as Ron. 2) Go with a caterer that is recommended by women here on The Knot or by Ron. We used one that wasn't well known and paid the price. 3) If you want to have ''twinkle lights' as you see in our pics, page me and let me know. We paid someone to do that. The beams are way to high to attempt on your own. 4) There is no a/c. Just thought that I'd mention that. Good luck! Let me know what other questions you have.
