F/U to dress dilema...again. Sorry-Long.

I posted a few days ago about issues with my wedding dress--which just came in to the bridal boutique I ordered it from (6 months ago), on Friday. I went into the store yesterday with my FI--I think he was more pisssed than I was. It turns out that they "vanity size" all of their dresses because "brides complain about the sizes not being their street size--and cause the shop to lose sales." Whatever..So I ordered a size four--but it was really a size 8. No big deal. But--the kicker is, they cut the tags out of my dress. They do this with all of their samples so that brides don't leave and purchase the dresses online. However, my dress was clearly not a sample--and they removed all identification from the gown: they took out the designer label from inside the dress, and removed the designer tags from the outside as well. I suppose I wouldn't care--I originally planned on buying the sample as they offered 10% off if I did. But, I paid the extra $$ to get a brand new dress with the tags--just incase I wanted to sell it afterwards. They claim they can sew the tags back in--but, they could have done that to the sample, and I would have saved myself $200. FI wants then to either refund my money, or order me a brand new dress. I'm unsure of what to do--mainly because I'm so upset. So...again, I turn to you wonderful ladies for advice. Any suggestions??

• I'd still be pissed and demand either a refund or a new dress. If you can find somewhere else and get your dress in time I'd get the refund and go elsewhere as it sounds like you've had so many problems with them...
• I'm not sure what would be the best course of action, but that really sounds like a terribly run business.  I've never heard of shop owners doing either of those things.  That just sounds crazy to me. Honestly if you have time I'd ask for a refund and take my business elsewhere.

• I'm pretty sure that is illegal.
• Eff that! You deserve a new dress. If you wanted the tags cut you would have bought a sample or cut them out yourself! Heck no. I wouldnt stand for that.
• The only answer here is to vandalize the joint.

• BAHAHA--fische--I totally agree. vandalism is the only answer here. --and yes..it's illegal to remove the tags from a wedding dress, unless the purchaser of it does so. It's like a mattress store removing the mattress tags before they sell it. So--worst case scenario is they won't give me a refund or order a new dress--and we take them to court for violation of the Federal Trade Commission Act.

• That's insane! I would demand a refund or that they order you a new dress. Why on earth did they do that to your dress in the first place? I would be raving mad.

• Ok, or you could do that, too. Ya know...the sensible route. But you know who to call if you need a vigilante spray painter.

• How about a throat punch? In addition or in addition to spray paint.
• Report them to the BBB and the FTC!  Illegal jerks.

• NCV2--I'm game for a throat punch. Lord knows this shop owner needs one. FI keeps asking what "the knot girls are saying." When I told him all of the responses-- He smiles, and says "See, they all agree with me." Clearly he is proud of himself. I think I will ask for a new dress first, and then if that doesn't work--a refund. I'm definitely contact both the BBB and FTC. This place is the biggest pile of crap ever.

• WTF? Get a refund and go somewhere else, these people sounds hella shady.

• I'd be fuming. They need to get you a new dress, or give this one to you for the price of the sample, plus some for being effers. You paid for NWT, you better be getting what you paid for.
• Akron, I do believe. For one of my best friend from high school's AHR.

• That's exactly what I'm thinking Mocha--they need to refund the money..and then some. Like throw in a new veil. And a new car. Fiche--if you're driving, you'd have to go through Toledo--it'd be perfect! If you're flying..well....you could ask them to make a pit stop.

• If at all possible, I would get a refund and go elsewhere. I wouldn't want to deal with them anymore. If that is the only place you can get "THE" dress, then I would ask for a new one.

• Did you take your dress in to compare the sizes?  I'm still banking on "they ordered you the wrong dress"I think they're full of schit.  Honestly, I'd have them refund the money and go elsewhere.  They are clearly not trustworthy, and you shouldn't let them have your money.  I don't believe them for a second.
• honestly, unless you know for sure otherwise, i would start to wonder if this shop is an authorized seller of the brand that you are trying to buy from. it doesn't sound like it. they may have cut the tags out of a knock off dress and are trying to sell it to you at the designer price (i don't know how plausible this is..but it was my first reaction). imo, you should get a refund AND keep the dress since it is illegal that they cut the tags out of it.
• How shady! I agree with pps... get a refund and take your business elsewhere. Report them.

• Amoro--I tried on the sample again yesterday--and it fits the same (a slight bit more loose) as my dress. They claim both dresses are size 8--but they mark the sample as a 4, and told be I ordered a 4--even though it was an 8, because they "vanity size their dresses." I couldn't help but ask why they had never had this problem before: bride tried on size X, orders size X, and receives size Y--confusion ensues. But, they claim they always take the size tag out of the dress when it arrives before giving it to the bride. So, basically, the deceive each and every person that comes in there. MissAnn--they are an authorized dealer; I found the store through the designers website. They are the only store in Ohio that sells Justin Alexander Couture--which is why I went to them, in search of a certain dress. That being said, I can 100% guarantee the designer does not condone what they have done to my dress.

• I just don't buy the whole 'vanity sizing' issue and I really get the feeling (eg with tags being cut etc) that your dress isn't the brand new one you ordered.
• I would be prepared to have them give you pushback about taking the dress back since it's already been "cut". Totally their fault, but I almost wonder if that's part of their scam. I feel like you need to get as far away from them as possible.
• suninherhead--that's the guy feeling I keep getting to. I'm not normally a worst-case-scenario kind of person, but I keep feeling this dress was a sample/is a knock-off/I'm getting screwed royally. Worst. Feeling. Ever.

• Honestly I'd also contact the dress manufacturer so they know what's going on and hopefully stop all connections with that shop.

• julez, I thought that too--especially because it was the dress shop owner who cut the dress, when there was a swatch of fabric stapled to tag on the back. She owns the place, this isn't the first dress she's ever ordered--how could she not know the swatch was already on the dress? Yet she cut into it anyways. Biitch.

• I would strongly suspect it was a knock off in your case, too. Either that or a sample, and she cut into it deliberately to stop you refunding when you realised. If she won't play ball, take them to court. Small claims is actually a lot of fun, and you certainly have enough evidence to back your claim that you were not supplied the stock that you paid for.
