Re: first dance song

  • may this be love - jimi hendrix
  • We were originally going to do Nat King Cole, but we are rethinking it.  Fi wants to do "Run" by Snow Patrol, and the DJ said he can edit the song so its not 10 hours long.

  • NEM is a great song, but yes, it's long. Perhaps you could dance together for most of it, then invite people to the dancefloor to join you, so that they're not staring at you for the entire thing. Our first song is Leona Lewis' version of "The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face". We loved the lyrics, and it's a song that both of our mothers have always loved. It just worked.

  • I really want to do Thriller because we're not really the romantic first dance type.  It will either be something silly or nothing at all.
  • september, i have thought about inviting more people to dance or doing half just us and half bridal party, but i don't know if people want to listen to one song for 9 minutes no matter who is dancing.maybe my dj can shorten it too? when i get a dj i will ask him:)
  • Lovin In My Baby's Eyes by Taj Mahal.  It's one we listened to a lot in his car 9 years ago when we were first dating, and it was always special to us.  We would act goofy and sing it to each other, so once we got engaged it was always one of our top choices. I loved it because it's not one everyone has heard or used before.

  • My dad sang Nat King Cole's Unforgettable.
  • We're using "God Only Knows" by the Beach Boys.  It's a little more upbeat and fairly short and we both like it a lot.  Plus, it's the theme song to one of our favorite TV shows, and we're huge TV nerds.Use the song you like.  Ask your DJ if they can help you edit it down, or after a minute or two invite other couples to join you on the dance floor.

  • We're doing a shortened version of Stevie Wonder's "As". We like it because it's a little more uptempo.
  • i guess we should use it. when he first knew he loved me he played that song for me. i had never heard it before. he said that that song is exactly how he feels about me. i will never forget that moment. i know thats probably a little cheesy but it was so cute :)

  • How sweet it is (to be loved by you), to be played by my friend's band. He's a great singer. Use what you love. A good DJ will be able to crop the song so that you still get all the good parts without it being super long.
  • we are doing chasing cars by snow patrol....I like country he likes rap but we both like alternative.  Also, Fi is not into mushy mushy and this song says everything we would want to say to each other without saying the typical I love you and want to be with you forever.  We will definitely have it shortened a little though.

  • Was supposed to be "Little Moments" by Brad Paisley, but DJ forgot the song and we danced to "She's Everything" by Brad Paisley.

  • "Then" by Brad Paisley. We don't have an 'our song' so we didn't have a first dance song picked. "Then" came out a few months before the wedding and it really grew on us. I think we decided on it about a week before the wedding when we were finalizing our playlist. I say go for the metallica song - you should be able to find a shortened version or your DJ should be able to fade it out so it sounds shortened. Also, an aside: I highly recommend against doing a bridal party dance. It's awkward for everyone involved and none of the guests want to watch it. We skipped it, and were thanked profusely by our WP. Just sayin'.
  • I'm not sure what our first dance song is going to be because my FI is going to surprise me. I told him I'd really like it if he chose "Your Guardian Angel" by The Red Jumpsuit Apparatus though.

  • Ours was "When the Rain Comes" by Third Day. It worked out especially well because it rained on our wedding day.

  • Ours was John Lennon's In My Life. The lyrics were pretty much a perfect expression of our feelings and where we are in our lives.
  • i totally agree with the whole bridal party dance being awkward. i hate when i am forced to do it!
  • Hiding Under Water, by Beth Hartits not your typical wedding song, but it holds special meaning for us.'our' song is Truly Madly Deeply by Savage Garden (since before we were dating, really) but we think it would be corny to use it as a first dance - instead, we are going to dance to it later on in the reception, when people won't be staring at us ;-)

  • We're using "grow old with you" from the Wedding Singer soundtrack. FI is not a dancer and this song clocks in right around 1:19, plus we both love the movie and the song.
  • jaj, my best friend did that song too. it was adorable!
  • we did nora jones - come away with me
  • Piper - I'm so glad to hear that! I wasn't sure how it would go over.I'm in South Jersey too, by the way  :)
  • we are pretty sure ours is 'Thank you for loving me' by Bon Jovi
  • 99% sure it will be "then" by brad paisley. The night that Spence and I met he was staring at me across the room at a wedding reception, so the way it starts out " I remember, trying not to stare the night that I first met you You had me mezmorized" seemed appropriate lol.  I like country, Spence doesnt at all but he likes the lyrics so hes ok w it
  •     FI and I just started this discussion on our way home from our weekend trip on Sunday. The song "Everything I Do, I Do It For You" by Brian Adams. We both said we could see ourselves dancing to that, but it's not set in stone yet. But yes...I pictured the whole thing, twirls, and dips...gawsh I'm pathetic.
  • I'm walking down the aisle to Apocalyptica's instrumental Nothing Else Matters. It got vetoed for a first dance. Instead, we're using the acoustic version of Stellar by Incubus.
