Re: Positivity Poll

• What is one thing that you are really proud of in yourself? the ability to think ahead and put a good chunk of money into savings each month that I could be using to buy new clothes/music/whatever.

What is one thing that somebody in your life (not FI) has/did/can afford that makes you genuinely happy for him/her? my mom is slowly updating her house room by room and I'm really happy for her :) I hope she can retire soon, that would make me REALLY happy.

What is a goal that you are working towards? saving money to move long distance to a new city with FI after we get married.

My sister took her first vacation without her son's to Jamaica. (She was a young mom and didn't get to travel during her 20's)

• What is one thing that you are really proud of in yourself?
I'm proud that I broke away from my family to show them the true me wasn't the person that they had expected/demanded I be my entire life. And in the end, my mother tells me that she can't explain how proud she is of me.

What is one thing that somebody in your life (not FI) has/did/can afford that makes you genuinely happy for him/her?
FMIL... Her and FFIL were dirt broke when they first started out together, but with love, hard work, and making good financial decisions, they raised 3 very nice men (one just happens to be the most amazing to ever live), built their dream house from the ground up, and prepare for a happy retirement in a couple years. She even put herself through school all over again after her boys went off to college/graduated. She has had all of her dreams come true, and she deserves it =)

What is a goal that you are working towards?
Hm. I'm really trying to figure out a game plan to get back to school, while still being able to pay my bills.

• What is one thing that you are really proud of in yourself?
I am really proud of myself for being active, going to bootcamp 5 mornings a week at 5:30am, training for triathlons, riding my bike forever, even walking with FI some evenings. I am even more proud that I keep doing it even when I don't see outwardly visible results. It makes me feel good that I live that active life, and all that excercise makes me a more positive person in general (all those endorphins).

What is one thing that somebody in your life (not FI) has/did/can afford that makes you genuinely happy for him/her?
My friend Jody that was on Amazing Race also made it to ITU World Triathlon Championships in Budapest this summer, in the 70-74 age group. I am so proud to call her a friend, and I am genuinely happy that she has had such a phenomenal year. She works so hard at what she does, and she deserves every accolade she gets.

What is a goal that you are working towards?
I am still working towards my goal of becoming a Certified Fraud Examiner. Its been a year since I took the prep course, and I haven't studied much in the past 6 months. I am qualified to take the test, though, so maybe I can get it done before the wedding.

• I'm really proud that I stepped out of my shell and found a local community ensemble to join. I moved away from friends and family to follow FI for a job, and I haven't found anything yet and it's been lonely. I'm happy that I found something on my own to do, just for me.

I'm really happy for my best friend who just got accepted into a very elite graduate program. She was 1 of 12 to get into her desired program and now is on track to eventually work for the FBI. So cool, and so happy for her.

It sounds lame, but I'm working towards finding a job. we moved from one part of the country where the economy wasn't that great to one where it's even worse for people looking for work, and now we just foud out we may be moving to Chicago in a few months, which is scary. I really want to find a job so that after the wedding I can start saving to back to to school for a masters degree in a field different than my undergrad so that I can do what I think will be a dream job, even though no one else seems to think it's the right thing to do.
• What is one thing that you are really proud of in yourself?

My 31 pounds down. TAKE THAT BODY FAT.

What is one thing that somebody in your life (not FI) has/did/can afford that makes you genuinely happy for him/her?

I was really stoked for my brother and his wife when they bought their new NEW car last year. It was the first one either of them had ever had.

What is a goal that you are working towards?

Ummm....I think I need to be more goal directed. I mean I always have SOME sort of goal I'm working on, but there's a lot of little ones, I guess.

Writer I freelance locally. But I also worked retail and it was really holding me back. I started doing content writing online so I can keep the lights on AND keep my sanity. Locally I write news and features. But I really like to write essay type stories. My absolute dream is to be featured on NPR's This American Life and eventually have a book published. It's lofty, but I have to pursue it. Sometimes you have to do things for yourself.

• What is one thing that you are really proud of in yourself?
I took a leap of faith in J (then BF) and moved halfway across the country to establish a relationship with him. It took me north of the Mason-Dixon, and further west than I had ever lived before. I've never been this far from so much of my family (but I'm closer to my parents, even though they are still 12 hours away). This was a decision I made not on a whim, but using adult logic and reasoning.

What is one thing that somebody in your life (not FI) has/did/can afford that makes you genuinely happy for him/her?
My father has spent 40 years with the same organization, and made it 1 step below his ultimate career goal. He is well respected throughout the country in his business, and has truly enjoyed his career. He retires this fall, but if it were up to him, I think he'd keep on another 10 years.

What is a goal that you are working towards?
Strengthening and toning my body. Cycling more with John and trying the ATV one more time.

• Sarah, good luck on your CFE! That's really exciting.

1. Getting my CPA license

2. Bec's Disney trip. She deserves it!

3. Paying off my student loans 15 years early (in 5 years instead of 20)
• What is one thing that you are really proud of in yourself? That I got into grad school. I've been working towards that goal for 4 years and to get it accomplished is amazing.

What is one thing that somebody in your life (not FI) has/did/can afford that makes you genuinely happy for him/her? My roommate just got into a relationship with FI's roommate. I'm so happy for them - they both have had such crappy relationship luck before, and I think they're a great fit for each other.

What is a goal that you are working towards? Actually, I don't have a goal right now. I graduated and got into a good school. I'm very happy with just coasting along right now.
• What is one thing that you are really proud of in yourself? That I lived my singlehood the way I wanted to, learned from it, and even though I didn't always understand things, went with the flow and was in the perfect spot in my life to meet FI.

What is one thing that somebody in your life (not FI) has/did/can afford that makes you genuinely happy for him/her? My parents, that they've always saved well and now are able to afford to do trips they love, like exploring different New England states.

What is a goal that you are working towards? Getting out of debt in the next year or 2 so that FI and I can afford better things we need. We're both kind of free spirits, I have student loans and had a credit card bill I let get out of control. But I'm paying both of those down at low interest and FI & I have been working on budgeting together.

• What is one thing that you are really proud of in yourself? Right now? That I'm in school fulltime and work fulltime. I just graduated with my associate with a 3.94. I know it's not unique at all and a lot of people do it, but I never thought it would be me. I hated school. Now I'm just super proud and went back again for more school.

What is one thing that somebody in your life (not FI) has/did/can afford that makes you genuinely happy for him/her? I just found out that my friend is pregnant after trying for quite some time. I'm so pumped for her!

What is a goal that you are working towards? My bachelors. That's it for right now.

• What is one thing that you are really proud of in yourself?
That I take responsibility and step up without being asked. Around the house, at work, wherever. I've always been like that and I see it now especially that I'm out in the real world.

What is one thing that somebody in your life (not FI) has/did/can afford that makes you genuinely happy for him/her?
My mom got lasic eye surgery last summer. She's the type who never buys anything for herself and always puts others first so I was really glad to see her do this for herself. She saved up her own money until she paid in cash, just a really good example and I'm happy for her.

What is a goal that you are working towards?
Building up our savings and being more financially responsible. I need to know that I'm not like my friends who shop for a new outfit every weekend or buy crap online with credit cards, and to just be content with what I have.
• What is one thing that you are really proud of in yourself? That I opened a saving account years ago so that if anything happened, I would have a fail safe. That account keeps me sane when I hear all these stories of people losing their jobs.

What is one thing that somebody in your life (not FI) has/did/can afford that makes you genuinely happy for him/her?My parents; my dad was enlisted in the Navy and worked to become an officer and support his family (my mom and sis and myself) and was able to give his children what he never got the chance to have: a college education (paid completely by my parents; I couldn't have asked for anything more).

What is a goal that you are working towards? Losing weight and studying to take the GRE so I can go back to school to get my masters in library science.

• What is one thing that you are really proud of in yourself? For coming out of a garbagedump of a situation relatively positive and very happy. I am so proud of who I have become. Has nothing to do with my career or things that I have.

What is one thing that somebody in your life (not FI) has/did/can afford that makes you genuinely happy for him/her? We have some friends who own homes that are buying holiday trailers. We're a couple steps behind them, but it's really great for them!

What is a goal that you are working towards? Paying off our debt. Figuring what I want to be when I grow up.

Becoming an Ironman despite my arthritis and the physical limitations it sometimes causes me.

What is one thing that somebody in your life (not FI) has/did/can afford that makes you genuinely happy for him/her? My sister for starting her own daycare business. She provides a loving welcome environment for the children she cares for everyday which is not something all of them get at home.

What is a goal that you are working towards?
Figuring out what I want to be when I grow up and cleaning out the office.
• Yay! You ladies are awesome!

What is one thing that you are really proud of in yourself
Being able to find another job in the MSP pretty easily.

What is one thing that somebody in your life (not FI) has/did/can afford that makes you genuinely happy for him/her? I'm so proud of my friend for navigating through a tough financial period where her H was laid off and happy that she is going to start TTC soon!

Ironman!

• 1. Making it through college without a dime of help from my parents. I graduate in August.

2. My best friend graduated last year and didn't find a job for 5 months, but now she has an amazing job and I'm so happy for her.

3. Getting into graduate school.
• 1. I make a good living as a freelance writer. Not many people can actually say that!

2. My sister is an awesome solo mom after her divorce -- she makes a good living and is a great mom and I'm really proud of her.

3. Feeling better physically.
• What is one thing that you are really proud of in yourself?

That I continue to fight to not give into materialism...I find it really hard to not 'want' stuff all the time but I force myself not to buy into that need to purchase things just because I want them. I try to only buy what I need and then purchase things I want only now and then. This has been tough while planning a wedding, and just in general too. I haven't bought myself any new clothes since August and even then it wasn't much. I think that in the last 12 months I have spent less than $400 on clothes or accessories. I really want an iPhone but I keep fighting the urge.

What is one thing that somebody in your life (not FI) has/did/can afford that makes you genuinely happy for him/her?

One of my brothers finally got up off his *ss and went back to do some schooling...it was just a 4 week course to teach ESL but for him it was a big accomplishment. It is really hard for me not to judge my brothers for their poor life choices but I was really happy when my youngest brother did this.

What is a goal that you are working towards?

My never-ending battle with food. I go to the gym at least 3 times a week so that isn't my problem, my problem is that I eat too much, I eat the wrong stuff and I eat for the wrong reasons. None of my focus on this is new or wedding related, it will be a life-long struggle because I am not naturally thin and I am very attracted to food. My FI loves me the way I am but most days I don't and I think it is important to love oneself so I am working towards that...
