NuvaRing?

I'm about to start BC for my upcoming wedding...I've been googling and can't find a good answer.During the one week you take the Nuvaring out...do you have to use other modes of BC or are you covered during that week?

You're covered. It's the equivalent of the line of white sugar pills in a pill pack.

You're supposed to get your period sometime during your ring-free week. However (I'm getting this directly from the info I got w/ my ring), you will still be protected.

I will also go ahead and throw in my 2 cents worth....This is my 2nd time using the NuvaRing. I tried it when it first came out, and had horrible mood swings, and zero sex drive. I used it for 3 months, then switched back to the pill for 2 years.This time, I haven't really had any trouble. Don't know why there was such a problem the first time.

I used nuvaRing for 2 years and loved it but now that I am off of it, I recognize the side effect. I just finished my first cycle off of it (strange high cholesterol problems with hormonal bc, not just NuvaRing). On the upside, I have more sexdrive and I am not as hungry all the time. When I started using it, i was doing endurance sports regularly, so i thought it was normal to eat that much, but since i got injured, and still was hungry that much, I gained a lot of weight. The past month and a half i really havent had th munchies or mood swings, which I thought were normal (been on BC for over 10 years, various formats). On the downside, I was nauseus the whole week before I started bleeding and my face is broken out again (at age 30 ARGHHH!) That made me want to go out and get pills (screw the cholesterol).. which is not a rational thought.So, try it out and see how it works. Inserting and removing are not all that freaky, I promise. And I never had one fall out. For scatterbrained people like me, its a godsend. Now, because of collateral issues, i have to try really har dnot to get pregnant before my wedding, and that's no fun!. Be aware of side effects, which i have seen are no worse, and often a lot less than pills.

/semitangentHow expensive is the NuvaRing? I was on the patch for 2 years and liked it, but my insurance didn't like to pay for it and I ended up paying whatever retail was, which was $50-60 a month. I'm interested in trying it but I hated shelling out that much money.

I have to agree with PPs - I had absolutely NO sex drive while on the Nuvaring. Other than that, it was perfect. I love the fact that I didn't have to worry about taking a pill everyday. But the no-sex-drive-thing does not work for me. So a pill a day it is!

I absolutely HATED Nuvaring, I tried it for about 6 months and I had 2 and a half week periods on it. Back to the pill for me.
