[QUOTE]I also think there are more objective standards to tell people they are intelligent than there are to tell people if they're attractive.  I've always had good standardized test scores, for example, to reinforce to me that I'm smart.  I've had positive responses to my looks I guess, but I've also been rejected before too, you know?

I think the world would explode from awesomeness if this ever took place.
  • On the opposite side of "too pretty = dumb/mean" I have had people assume I'm not smart because I'm overweight. True story. People are weird man, what can I say?

Also, I once dated this guy who turned out to be the dumbest human being alive. I was tricked by his British accent at first. But then he didn't know who Walt Whitman was. And then he argued with me that sopranos are always men. If there was some kind of brain-scrub that I could make his memory go away with, I'd use it. I gag when I think of him. Seriously.

Mr. Panda is not going to be the next top underwear model, but he is the smartest person I've ever met ever. And I think he's sexy as all get out.

I also once had a person tell me that he wasn't attracted to me at first, but as soon as he started getting to know me I got prettier and prettier. I actually think it's one of the nicest things anyone's ever said to me, oddly.

I had a lot to say, apparently.

I knew H for a few years before we started dating. I never could decide whether or not he was attractive, and then we started talking, and all the sudden I wanted to do him. It happens.

  • I'd much rather be smart.  I am smart, but I'm far from gorgeous, and I feel like I get much further with my brains than I would with better looks.  Also, I don't think I could marry someone who wasn't smart, even if they were only slightly below average.  I'm much more attracted to brains than good looks.
    image
  • I'm the smart one in my relationship. But that's the way I wanted it to be. And I'm not calling my H stupid by any means, but even he'll tell you I'm the smart one. I'm the brains and he's the brawn.

Thank you :).  I grew up thinking I was really unattractive.  I know now that it was likely because i was the only black girl in my school and that may have been why boys wouldn't date me (not saying they're racist, just that when you're young, you might be concerned about that kind of stuff).  Then again, I have a good sense of humor because I didn't think I could get by on my looks.

</div><div>Exactly what happened with us.  We were friends for four years before we began dating.  Took me forever to begin to think of him as doable because we were so busy having amazing conversaitions about everything.</div><div>
</div><div>What's funny is that my husband is always telling me that I'm beautiful, and I keep thinking he's insane.  But I still see myself as the chubby, ugly nerd girl from fourth grade.  I used to console myself with getting good grades and eventually going to an awesome college.  </div><div>
</div><div>And I have to admit, there's the little petty part of me that felt vindicated when I heard that one of the pretty girls who tormented me in grade school wasn't doing well after a divorce because she didn't go to college and develop job skills.  Bad me, I know :/</div><div>

  • Awwww Money, you're seriously one of the most beautiful women on here.  If I could look like anybody it would go like this:

    Halle Berry

    Camille Belle
    Monica Bellucci

  • Imp-you're certainly not the first person to feel that way!

I sometimes chuckle that the "cool" guys I went to high school with, who thought I wasn't good/cool/pretty enough to date one of their friends are now all fat and bald, and still living in our hometown not doing anything with their lives.
  • I don't particularly like anything about myself other than the fact that I have a banging rack.  And nice teeth, but I paid for those.

  • The mean cheerleader in our high school that was super pretty and popular even though she was a horrendous b*tch friended me on FB.  All her status updates are about how she can't get any child support from her three different baby daddy's and how she went out and got drunk the night before.  I'm always like "Haaaaaaaaaaaaaaa."

I've always been insecure about my looks, for as long as I can remember. I'm working on it.

ETA: Nuggs, I think you're gorgeous. For real.

Thanks.  And now I feel kinda bad, I'm not fishing I swear to God.  I don't think I'm butt ugly or anything.

  • I would much rather be smart.
  • Smart...only because if I was smart enough, I could become a doctor, or a rocket scientist, or a high-priced lawyer...then, I'd have money to make myself prettier. Via plastic surgery and all that money could buy.
Research shows that IQ is pretty much set after age 7-9, unless you get a brain injury, in which case some of your cognitive abilities obviously may decrease.
But, as adults, there's really not anything we can do to become measureably smarter. We can learn ways to seem smarter though I suppose.

    Thank you :).

Mr. Penny loves him some Monica Bellucci.

And I know you aren't fishing, but you are also a very pretty lady!
  • Can I get in on this Trivial Pursuit GTG?  That would be awesome.  Preferably with shots of something after each wedge.
  • I'd rather be smart and I preferred my SO to be smart as well. I dated a bunch of pretty boys and they all ended up annoying me. I needed someone who could challenge me intellectually, so I ended up choosing a guy who was smarter than me (and still cute :).

I also feel like most people eventually end up becoming ugly, so I'd rather be smart and keep that for life. I also think I'd have more money in the long run if I was smarter than prettier because I'd probably have a better job and be able to do it well. There are pretty people in my profession that are very nice people but a pain in the ass to work with because they're dumb as a box of rocks and don't do what they need to do to get the job done.
  • I haven't read any of the responses, but I would rather be smart, for sure. You can always put effort into your appearance, but it's harder to fix stupid.

    LOL.

Well, given the OP's definition of below average intelligence, "not first in graduating class" and not going to be a "physicist" one day, I'd choose pretty, because I wasn't top 10 in my class nor am I a physicist.  I may not know about protons and energy and how to build a rocket ship, but I do know subject matter I'm passionate about, that others do not. And as another PP mentioned, pretty gets one further in life (or "different treatment), unfair as it is.  I've seen it happen and its true.
  • My opinion is probably swayed by the fact that I've always been smart > pretty. It came in handy when I tested out of calculus at Purdue for my math requirement.
  • And you can afford plastic surgery and to pay other people to think for you.  Voila!
