Re: FFF

  • Thanks for asking, lala.  I'll try to make a long story shorter:About 2 months ago, she started throwing up alot.  I took her to the emergency vet, and they gave her tons of pills and just said her platelets were low, white blood count high, but didn't know why.Gave her all the pills, she seemed to be doing ok, started throwing up alot again on Tuesday night.  Back to the vet, lots more tests, including an ultrasound- still no idea what is wrong, platelets even lower, lost 10 pounds in less than 2 months. They want us to take her in to test her bone marrow for lymphoma, but it's $1000, on top of the $3000 we have already spent over the last 2 months.  We're trying to figure out what to do because we don't have the money.

  • Aw, Kiki, that's incredibly sad and sucktastic.  Poor doggie.  Hope you guys figure something out!

  • I think almost everyone has some level of paranoia/fear about certain things. Having a baby before we are ready is just one of mine. If it were to happen, I am sure we could handle it, it just scares me. Maybe I am being naive and childlike, but we have a certain time line we have discussed for our future.
  • Oh, no, Kiki that sucks. I'm so sorry. My dog had low plateles earlier this year, and a high white blood cell count. They diagnosed him with thrombocytopenia, and he was on steroids for a short time (which I hated) but he has since recovered. Have you had a second opinion from another vet? Also look into Care Credit- it is a payment plan/ins for dogs.Lala- sorry to hear your dog had a stroke. Hope s/he is doing better.

  • Pumpkin, my love.  That was all sarcasm!  Haha.  I love ya enough that I would never say that to ya in seriousness. You are canadian and all.

  • I second Care Credit. That's what I had to do for Oskar when he needed emergency surgery. I'm so sorry, Kiki. :(

  • Night, it was basically just me admitting how I worry about becoming pregnant before the wedding and how I think it has affected our sex life yadda yadda...People gave me some info to read and helped me understand more.
  • Kiki, one of my dogs had a similar situation and he was diagnosed with something called myasthenia gravis (sp?)  He started with throwing up, couldn't keep anything down.  We had to put him on a combination of different meds to keep it under control.  Just something to ask your vet maybe.  I'm so sorry, and I hope your dog feels better soon. Lala, is your dog ok?
  • vally- After the emergency vet stuff, they thought it might be TCP; she's been on steroids and we thought they were working until she got sick Tuesday night.  She's really deteriorated since. They gave us an application for Care Credit, so we may do that.  It's not 100% about the money- we don't want to put her through an uncessary procedure if it's not going to help.Sorry about the stroke, too, lala :(

  • I'm sorry Kiki. I went through something similar with my cat 3 years ago.
  • OMG Mandy, no, I had no idea...something about it made me think you were serious...and I was so busy yesterday inserting Fishy's poem in to invites that I didn't really care to call you on it. :)

  • Kiki- how old is she, and what kind of dog? I really hope she improves.

  • FWIW, I fear pregnancy as well.  There seems to be this belief that women should be willing to become pregnant at any given time. We're not.  That's why birth control exists.  But it isn't 100% effective so there's ALWAYS that fear.Yet another shining example of people flaming over nothing.

  • we don't want to put her through an uncessary procedure if it's not going to helpI'm sorry about your puppy.  H and I had to make a similar decision with our Shih Tzu two years ago.  She got really sick out of the blue and surgery would have been invasive and wasn't a guarantee.  It was the hardest decision I have ever had to make.
  • actually, she's doing well. apparently dogs make an almost-full recovery after a stroke. whatever resilience dogs have needs to be bottled and given to humans.it was bad the first couple days though. she just couldn't stand up without falling down. and her eyes were doing this really wonky thing. the vet said she'd likely recover in a few days, and she did. her head is cocked a little bit to the side now, and she's a little bit more stumbly than she used to be, but she's the same old dixie :)
  • This is going to be very random.I'm happy for whistlin' Dixie.Kiki- I hope the best for her, let us know how it goes. And now I understand why you've been on edge recently. And I also fear pregnancy. For realsies.

  • Excellent.  E can't use her tragedy card, but Kiki can use her dog in the same way.Bonus points.

  • kiki, I'm so sorry about your doggie. I really hope you can come up with the money if you feel in your heart it's the best thing. how long do greyhounds usually live? if she's got another five years in her, I'd do anything I could. this sucks, and I'm sorry :(
  • I don't want to be pregnant either, but I don't live in fear of it. Once we start TTC (sorry moose) then I'll live in fear of it.
  • Thanks for the good wishes- I'll keep you updated.I am SO not afraid of getting pregs- I want a baby!  I have total baby fever.

  • kiki =/= E. not even close. at most, kiki posted a joke that people didn't get. she mentioned having a bad week. she was asked why. it's not like she was a horrible biitch for the last year or so and then threw down a tragedy card.
  • FWIW, I fear pregnancy as wellDitto.  Something about having a hard convex stomach really frightens me.

  • Are you serious, wading?  I haven't done anything that I'm trying to excuse.  Are you really saying I acted like E?  Not even close, and I was not involved in any of that. Please do not even go there, I was just responding to mrsswift who said I seemed tense- I didn't expound until people asked.

  • I think what AF means is not that she WANTS to be flamed but when you first come over to P&E and start posting, you kinda hold your breath waiting for it. I had been flamed and the first time I let out a sigh of relief. It wasn't as bad as you build it up to be in your mind. So its almost a feeling of innevitable and lets get this sh!t over with. Not putting words in your mouth AF, but thats how it was for me.

  • Remember ilovemyco?  She was just a normal annoying poster and then went all crazy on P&E and the Florida board and admitted to being tabs.  Good times.
