    Ugh. I hate this question. H and I decided that we didn't want kids long before we got married, and we're pretty set on that, but people still keep asking. When they first ask "so, when are you going to have kids?" I say "We're not having kids." Of course, they always ask why and try to talk me into it, and I say "Sorry, I didn't realize I was supposed to take a poll before deciding." When it's strangers, I tell them we can't and look really sad. It makes them feel bad, as they should for being so rude!

    it gets worse once your married. every time my obnoxious sister and i talk, i get "so when are my kids going to have some cousins".  i always tell her they have 2 already (her husband's sister's kids!).  my in laws know not to go there with us. but yeah, people will alwyas think that you'll change your mind.  you might - i did, although in the opposite direction (wanted them, now i really dont).  i always thought i'd want one until i hit about 24 or 25, and my career took off.  now i really dont care if i ever have them.  like others, if i do have any, it will be one, and it will be for hubby.  but even that really isnt a good reason to have one.

    I can't say I hate kids because I am training to be a teacher, I love kids, I just don't want any of my own.I don't know if I can have kids, but I usually say I don't want them, then if anyone presses I say I don't know if I can, so there is no point thinking about it. Another reason that I don't bring up unless seriously pressed (because it makes FI uncomfortable) is that he has a genetic disorder he could pass on and we don't want to risk having kids that would need to be in hospital all the time. That wouldn't be fair on the kids.

    I've aowys said that if I want to hear the pitter patter of little feet I'll get a cat. I then added "ad get lots of air filters" after I figured out that I'm allergic to cats. Could also go with the truth: I hate children.
