I was 25 the first time and 27 the second time.4 - For any breakups or divorces, what did you do with the ring(s)? You name it, I tried to do it. Sell it on EBay, sell it to a wholesaler, put ads in the paper, return it to the store, etc. I ended up selling it to a friend of a friend for less than what it was worth, but more than what I was offered previously.5 - What about your FI? First and only engagement/marriage.

This is my first engagement/marriage. DH was married when he was 20, she was 18. They had two daughters, she cheated and they divorced when DH was 24, I met him when he was 25 and we just got married (he's now 31). I have no idea what happened to the rings but FI doesn't have his, he said he hated it, it wasn't him at all so he chucked it. We picked our own rings for this go around!

First engagement for me. FI got pretty serious with his college girlfriend. That was actually the first story I ever heard him tell- we were at a diner with a group of people after a party, and he told me that he and his fiance had broken up after he showed her the ring he was going to buy her and she didn't like it. I told him that I didn't believe that was the full story (at least that's what I remember telling him; it's possible just what I was thinking in my head at the time).

Divorced. We've gotten all the practice relationships out of the way.

Then I went to McDonald's and a bookstore... and the money was gone by the end of the day.5 - What about your FI? I'm the one and only.

1. Twice engaged, um, sort of.2. We broke off the engagement a day and six hours later after a long discussion, but kept dating. We're engaged again, this time for reals.3. 22 the first time, 23 now.4. The ring from the first time was actually a ring that I had as a child, that he unearthed while refinishing an antique desk of mine. It was a cute idea to start with until he/we got a "real" engagement ring for me. I still have that one in my jewelry box, one of those adjustable rings with three stones in it.5. Second time for him, same reason.

I was only "officially" engaged twice -- the two times I got married. There were a few other relationships where we discussed marriage, but never got to the point of actually planning. (FWIW, in my mind, "engaged" is concrete plans to get married, not a ring per se -- DH and I opted not to get me an engagement ring, which was a joint decision). When I got divorced, we sold my engagement ring and split the money from it. We were going to do the same with the wedding band, but I offered him money for half instead, with the intent of using the diamonds in it to make a pair of earrings. I'm sure some will say it's tacky, but in the end, I used those same diamonds to make my wedding band for my marriage to DH instead. To me, the diamonds themselves had no emotional value and I only would have ended up buying something similar anything. I don't know what he did with his wedding band. It was only a few hundred dollars to begin with, so not worth selling. DH had also been married before. I have no idea what he did with his wedding band -- my guess is that it's still somewhere in the house. He doesn't have his ex-wife's band, so I guess she does. Knowing the two of them, I'm sure it had little to no financial value and I'm sure it wasn't worth trying to sell it .

I usually don't post here, but: 1- once 2- will end in marriage! 3- 21 4- N/A 5- This is the only interesting part: FI was engaged once before. His college girlfriend got pregnant towards the end of their senior year. He asked her to marry him because it was the "honourable" thing to do. They were both 22. It ended about 3 months later after she miscarried and told him the baby wasn't his. Now she's a porn star. They never bought a ring.

I gave the ring back since I broke it off, but I stole it back out of his nightstand when he ticked me off, and he never noticed it was missing. I kept it for years until the price of gold went up and I sold it to a jeweler.5 - What about your FI? First engagement/marriage for him
