I wonder

if mulva is evacuating or just standing in the middle of Mobile bay telling Ida to drink bleach?I also wonder why you all suck so much this morning.

Re: I wonder

• I was very disappointed that my normally over-reacting company downgraded our hurricane watch level this morning.  Plus they're letting shuttles run today.  They almost didn't let me come home four freaking days before Gustav last year, and they're letting my boss come today?  They're getting much too rational.

• this morning sucks.  I'm sitting here at work instead of still in STL w. the gals.  I should have just taken today off.  BOO.

• Winged, I would hope that if it was boobs, there'd be some nipple dials to do the volume.  that's a pretty cavernous hole you've got there, Angie.

• The girls on the destination weddings board are flipping out over Ida.  If I see one more "Vibes, please post"  I may tell them all to drink bleach.

• could you milk my ipod dock, greg?
• it's not even a real hurricane. I don't evacuate for this kinda crap.
• Maggie and I just got home from checking out the brand new Wal Mart (yes, my life is JUST that exciting) and I'm going to put her down for a nap and mop the kitchen floor, so I hope it stays dull around here so I'm not tempted to skip my work. I just e-lectured my dad about not commenting much on my ex-boyfriend's facebook page. Gah. It's awky and such. We may go to the zoo later if the weather holds, it's supposed to be in the upper 60s today.

• I'm at work today, too, Tasty.  I went home and went to bed at like 8 last night and slept like a ROCK.

• a storm hitting Mobile is not like a storm hitting New Orleans. For one, Mobile isn't a soup bowl protected by a piss poor levee system. Also, Mobile is protected by the Mobile Bay from any really serious storm surge action. I think the only storm I ever evacuated for was Katrina.
• and obviously, during Katrina, I live in New Orleans... and I evacuated to Mobile.
• We evacuated for Ike, but it was really more like we left early to go to see the Eagles in Dallas so that we wouldn't get stuck in Houston and miss it.
• I like hurricanes, but that's only because of how far north I am. Typically by they time they reach here it just means the surf is good. I doubt I would like them if I lived anywhere below the mason dixon line.

• The idea of a hurricane terrifies me.Then again, just the thought of living near an ocean terrifies me. I'm probably a minimum of 2000 miles away from any ocean in every direction, and that's how I likes it. Water is skerry.
• "The idea of a hurricane terrifies me." Yeah, but you get plenty of warning and time to prepare. I feel bad for the tornado folks. Hey, i'm chilin' drinking a pabst and then next thing, whamo, my trailer is 9 lots over.
• Or earthquakes.  THE EARTH SHOULD NOT MOVE.
image
• I agree, the thought of a tornado horrifies me. And so does the thought of being landlocked.Oh Jens, my house would make you panicky.

• tornados do suck, but i think that earthquakes are the thing that scare me the most. with a tornado, you at least know a storm is coming that could produce tornados.  Not that they still don't suck. But I feel like if you live in a trailer in tornado alley you are tempting fate. Also, the ground should not open up and swallow people.
• an earthquake would wig me out too.
• I'm afraid of a tree falling on my house.
image Ready to rumble.
• we have a lot of HUGE trees in our yard. and I'm always scared one is going to come through the roof (and one actually has in the house we live in now.. but, not while we lived there). But then, that's what homeowners insurance is for. Hopefully, I won't be there when it comes through.
• Earthquakes and volcanoes scare the crap out of me.  I would rather a tornado than a huricane any day, but I think it's because I grew up with tornadoes.  I think what you're used to has a huge impact on that.

• SB, so true. Hurricanes and having 2 feet of snowfall are normal to me, but could be someones worst nightmare.Tsunamis on the other hand, make me very nervous.

• very true MulvaAnd YES Fallin. See, things like hurricanes and earthquakes are why I don't mind living smack in the middle of the great white north. It gets cold beyond imagination for a few months in the winter, but we always know that's coming. There have been tornadoes around here, but very, very rarely, and always small scale and not much damage or danger.
• But earthquakes don't happen as often as Tornados and they have to be really big to cause damage.  I say that as I wonder when "the big one"  will hit.

• all natural storms/etc. freak me out (not thunderstorms, but stuff like hurricanes, typhoons, earthquakes, etc.).  MOTHER EARTH IS PUTTING US IN TIME OUT.  also, I'm afraid of fire.
image
• hell yes on the fire thing. tarafire offered to help me face my fear at a GTG. maybe we could do that together tasty.
• I would rather a tornado than a huricane any day, but I think it's because I grew up with tornadoes. I think what you're used to has a huge impact on that. 100% this. But I think I have developed a false sense of invincibility over Tornados. I have just seen too many watches, warnings, and major storms and never had anything happen.
