Your parents are in enough credit card debt to have had to refinance TWICE in the last year, how does the question of them paying for your wedding/frivolous party even CROSS your mind? And what makes you think that they should have been paying for your education and living expenses rather than spending it on things they may have wanted to, or had to?Entitled much?

I don't see why you would even need to lurk to know that it is rarely acceptable to ask anyone to hand you money that you haven't earned. No amount of special circumstances, like those 100% totally unique never happened to anyone else ever type circumstances you described in your post, will make it ok.

Actually, I would say their responses were quite easy on you. NO, you should not ask. If they could/want to pay for any of it, they will bring it up. Budget with what you have and if it's not enough, have a long engagement.
