I love you Missy. Even though you are not smart enough to take online quizzes to find out really important information. ~cew
• My dear old dad served in the Navy in Viet Nam. Spent some time on the DC fire department and then became a career Army man, served in the Criminal Investigation Division (CID) in Germany. Retired after 20+ years and continued his civil service life working as a crime scene investigator for the Montgomery County PD in Maryland.
• Here's my BIL with my neice before he left for Iraq last year with the Marines. I wish I could find the one where he comes back.

• Nearly died a couple of times, mostly as a result of other chopper pilots being idiots. Not cool.  And I'm super-impressed with those of you who are current and future military wives.  I can't imagine sending DH off to war, and I really admire the strength of you who can do it and somehow stay sane.
• My BFF has served in Iraq twice.  She spent her 21st birthday fighting for freedom, and last year she had to leave her 2 year old son behind.  She's home now and I'm so glad to have her back.  PIB--she's the one with the Celtic symbol tat.4 of our other close friends from HS are or have served over seas.My dad served in the first gulf war, but he's kind of a douche so I don't really care to AW him.
• Grandpa - Stationed on an aircraft carrier in the Korean war, don't know the ship name though.FI's cousin - 2 years in Iraq with the army, recently re-enlisted for another 5 years I believeFI's other cousin, first one's sister - in training for the last year with the army as a radar specialist (I think), don't know when she's being deployed.
• Dad - Air Force during Korean War. Uncle - USMC during WWII.  Participated in 8 campaigns in the Pacific, including Iwo Jima and Guadalcanal. 2 Uncles - Navy during WWII.  Nephew - currently serving in the Navy - will be stationed on a submarine based on Guam beginning in December. • Ugh, how the eff did I forget my cousin's entire family? My cousin, his wife, and daughter are all Air National Guard of Indiana. The cousin was deployed to Turkey as ground support for operations in Iraq. His wife is a nurse, and the daughter does intel or something.
• My granddad: Marine. Shipped out of CA for WWII (Pacific Theatre) the day my grandmother found out she was pregnant with their first child.  My aunt was two years old before he saw her for the first time.Uncle: Found out he was drafted for Vietnam the day he moved to Baton Rouge to attend LSU law school.  Made a career out of the military and is the most respectable man, next to my granddad, I can think of.  The military has kind of sucked regarding drafting my family during life changing events.  Props to any vets and vets' wives.  You are all much stronger than I am.

• Grandfather - served in the Army during WWI at 15, lying about his age. Sister - currently enlistedin AF, served in Iraq ExBIL - currently an army reservist, served in Iraq and is about to return there for a 2nd tour.
• Here's the guy who about to deploy, with his daughter (one of our FGs) making a funny face and covered in temporary tattoos:     The thing that breaks my heart is that he's a single dad, and the daughter is going to have to move in with her BSC mother while my friend's away.  This isn't going to be good for the girl's development...
• Maternal G'Pa WWII (Paternal G'Pa was a steel refiner so they wouldn't take him.  He was always very upset about it and refused to discuss it)Dad - Vietnam stioned state side designing bombs and obviously a bunch of other stuff since my FBI report pulled up HIS top Security Clearance...that is still active?Over the course of three years of HS, 12 friends enlisted.  All served in the Green Berets or Rangers. All stayed on Active Duty Reserves in MI and all were called to Gulf War IBIL - Srved in the National Gaurd while getting his BA.  Joined the Army (that paid for his Masters), finished school and joined the Marines.  He is now a Capt.  Served two tours in Iraq and may be deployed for a tour in Afgahanstan.God-Son - Joined right out of HS.  Wanted to be a helicopter mechanic.  Was so good in school, the Special Forces grabbed him for their helicopters.  He is/was cycled in and out of Iraq ALL.THE.TIME (much to his mothers dismay).  Is currently on medical leave after a nasty motorcycle accident.

• Dad- In the army during WWII (never saw active duty though) FIL- Served in the army in Vietnam DH- 13 years active duty in the navy as a surface warfare officer. I don't even know how many sea deployments he's had (maybe 8?) and he's also been in the horn of africa with the joint forces.
• My grandpa died in 1994, but he served in the navy in the South Pacific from November 1943 to January 1946. He claimed he never wanted to see another palm tree in his life! (And he didn't.)When he left, my aunt was 2 weeks old. My grandmother was 21 and didn't know how to drive. She was living with her parents, but it still must have been really hard. Her brother was also in the military (since before the war) and my grandfather had 4 brothers and one sister who also served in the military during WWII.

• My mom's dad tried to enlist in WWII and they wouldn't let him because of medical issues. He wound up at the Pentagon as a civilian for 30 years instead. When the Korean war broke out he didn't leave the building for 2 weeks.
• My uncle served in Vietnam - I know none of the details because he refuses to talk about it. My dad's cousin did TWO tours of duty in Vietnam, so he could be let out of the army after 18 months rather than 24. He also doesn't talk about it.

• Oh, and I think my mom's father was also in the army in WWII and never saw combat. He was in some type of reserve forces on D-Day which they didn't end up needing. He later went to college on the GI bill where he met my maternal grandmother. My mom's uncle was in the air force for quite some time, and played oboe in the AF band.
