Steph - if you rent it from the hospital, do they autoclave the parts or otherwise ensure they're sterile?

Good morning. We have a delayed start at school because we were supposed get <1" of snow but got a bit more. My neighborhood wasn' bad but I commute pretty far out of town and the roads got NASTY!! I got stuck on a hill because a cop stopped in front of me and reversed almost into me to help another person stuck on the ice. Thanks a lot, officer.

Any way I still have like 45 minutes till school starts now.....

My dad told me to rent a breast pump from Walmart...you still have to buy a 'kit' but the pump can be rented and apparently it isn't expensive. I am fine with that.

(ps: my dad is a doctor that deals exclusively with births (pediatrician/neonatologist), since we are going to be TTC soon we had a huge convo about all things babies with him, I realize it might seem odd to talk about breast pumps (and cracked nipples!) with one's father but when we go into 'doctor' mode it seems less weird, plus my mom's gone, all I have is my dad, it's kinda nice that he is a 'specialist' when it comes to babies!).

From what I gather based on what my dad said it's really just the mechanical 'pump' part that you rent...all the parts that touch anything are part of the kit that you buy. But I cold be wrong, I haven't looked into it.

This is correct. In medical grade ones the parts are all sealed. Anything that touches your milk is a part you have to buy in a kit.

I registered for a hand pump, but if we need an electric I'll probably rent from the hospital. One of the benefits of being home with LO for a year is that I wont' have to worry over pumping a lot if we EBF (whch is the hope!).

My H pronounces it "Circus Olé" and it cracks me up. I've corrected him before but he says he likes it his way better.

Please dont. H's daughter looked into that, by the time they got through with rentals they could have bought one. Even though we ended up buying it for them, I still think it's worth the money.Not to mention you'd have to buy replacement parts.

We ended up with this one, I think we only paid $269.

Mehg, my H always pronounces Matt Damon as Matt Damien. I think it's his subconscious way of trying to end my crush on him by giving him a name from The Omen.
