• LVB, in that thread I agree with you. When I said it, in my mind it was kind of a "yeeeees, of course we think she had a picture like that, that is a silly question," but reading it comes across as a lot more snarky. I'm not sure what other instances you're referring to to be honest.

But to answer your question of what's gotten into me, if you've read some of the good morning threads lately I've talked about being kind of down and stressed, and I'd imagine that would have something to do with it.

It's coming through on your blog too, to be honest. I think part of that is influncing my feeling, but I didn't want to bring that up here, since it's not totally relevant. I haven't been reading the GM threads and didn't realize. I wish the old Emily would come back though. She's the bees knees.
I'm really irked by the creation of this new board on the bump: http://community.thebump.com/cs/ks/forums/11777263/ShowForum.aspx?MsdVisit=1 Not because of the board itself, but because of what they called it. "Childfree" is a term and a community specifically about NOT wanting children, ever. I've participated in many childfree communities and there is a lot of diversity, but one thing in common: they would like to be taken seriously, have their lifestyle treated as a legitimate choice, and not be questioned ("you'll change your mind" etc.). This sort of misuse of the term only serves to go against these wishes and creates confusion. It's like when somebody says "I used to be childfree..." no. You were never childfree if you proceeded to have kids. Childfree is a permanent state of being and is generally a positive one (except for the way we are treated by others). People who wish to have children but cannot, for some reason, are child less . I really don't appreciate these people co-opting our community's term like that. It's kind of offensive. (Before someone quotes the dictionary to me, the dictionary is behind the times. I could go into that phenomenon a little more but I gotta get some work done.)
    Posted by daffodil_jill
I agree with this. I mean, I guess it's fine for them to havea board (but wouldn't having it on TN be better so they aren't on a... pregnancy website?) but calling it Childfree is an odd choice, for sure. Childfree means by choice. Childfree not by choice is a paradox.

Maybe the creator is just ignorant of the difference? To me, it's all semantics. But I guess to those that are childfree and are in that community, there really is a difference. My guess is that the clearly idiot IT people didn't do any research and just threw it up.
And Anna. Oh my. I can't help but feeling you're beyond pretentious. First example I guess that i never got over was the book thing. I know you back peddled and tried to explain it, but I wasn't buying. The whole I hate it when people only read popular books and think they're the best thing ever instead of reading something REAL. Who gives a damn? And then yesterday/last night in Unpop Op. You got all outlandish that you think people should have to take a test to vote. Totally legit (and outlandish) feeling. But then someone else had an EQUALLY outlandish statement about sterilizing people at birth (and admitted that she knew it wasn't right). You all but called her a eugenicist. And then in your next post was all...well, most people don't even know what eugenics is.
    Posted by louisvillebride21
I admitted in both all posts about the voting thing that I basically knew it was outlandish and never would and never could happen for a variety of reasons. I also admitted in the thread that I knew the eugenics comment was similar in some ways to me saying the thing about voting (although it is my opinion that forced sterilization is more outlandish than voter tests, but whatever). When people say stuff about restricting who is allowed to reproduce it does make me think they have no knowledge of the eugenics movement, and I've seen comments like that on here (and elsewhere) multiple times and it's always bothered me so I finally said something about it.

And the book thing was also in an unpop opinion thread. I think I was misunderstood, you think I backpeddled. Whatever. It's the internet, people don't always come across the way they intend to.
  • Jesus christ, TR, do you hate me? My heart is effing pounding right now. Yes, I know it's an irrational fear, but it's definitely real.
