I hate when people seem to think that women with curly hair need to straighten their hair.  Or that everyone looks better with straight hair. Or that women with straight hair should flat iron it every morning to make it straighter.  It's ridiculous.   ETA, I totally wish I got a make-up bonus!
Posted by djhar
Along with this, I used to straighten my hair all the time like in high school.  When I started wearing it curly I got lots of compliments.  Now on the extremely rare instance that I wear my hair straight people always compliment that.

I think people are more apt to compliment things they don't see all the time, maybe?
I had several people ask if I was going to straighten my hair for the wedding. Um, no. First of all, I don't really look like myself with straight hair. Second, my hair is cut so the curls are straight. Since they curl at all different textures, if my hair is straight, it looks like a kindergartner cut it with their safety scissors. Third, it was hot and HUMID when we got married-  by the time I got to the church it would have been a frizzball. But thanks for making me feel like I was going to have ugly hair at my wedding.... appreciate it!

FWIW, your hair is beautiful in your wedding pictures. So those people can shove it.

• Okay curls -

This is me with my regular curly hair - me on the right, chick on the left is one of my sistas

This is why curly haired people need mousse

And this is me with straight hair.  I think it looks terrible, lol.

And yeah, I'm an AW, I know:

• I like your hair curly AATB!
Mine is about the same texture.

I know Im late but the showering and underwear: I have to shower twice a day, morning and night. But I only wash my hair 3 times a week.
Is that bad?

My hair is thin so it looks stupid straightened. Sad face. Curl atleast gives me more volume. For the record, my hair isn't thinning, its just thin. I'm not balding.
• I dont like when super curly hair is straightened.  I think it lifts at the root too much and unless its a ponytail you can tell that they have beautiful curls that they just ironed out.

My hair is wavy curls and it doesnt start from the root.  Its like it cant decide what it wants to do, therefore straight looks best with my hair because it takes out the frizz and gets nice and silky smooth.

Boobs- if i had curls like that, i would wear them all the time.

• I wear my hair so many different ways.  Naturally curled, straightened, curling iron curled, blonde, brunette- I look different from day to day.

My sister gets out of the pool, runs her fingers through her hair, and it dries like a damn Victoria Secret swimsuit models hair.  All beachy and stuff.

If I dont wear a bun or pony in the pool and let it down it turns into a rats nest and I spend an hour brushing it out.

• I had beautiful straight hair, it was so pretty. Then I had my tonsils removed and I had a chemical reaction to the anesthesia and my hair grew in super thick and curly. It's not pretty curly like djs, it's just weird and fuzzy and stupid. I straighten it almost every day except for super humid days when it would be pointless. My hair in the summer = Tina Turner in Mad Max :( Oh and even better, my hair is also solid white. My hair started turning in my very early twenties, and now it's completely white. My hair is balls.

• That's one thing I wish I could do, brandi.  I just don't really have a mind for hair styling.  I color my hair a few shades darker than my natural color, but I don't get too fancy with it.  I'm both kinda chickenshit with it and I also think I'd just look weird.  And trendy haircuts?  Omg.  I can't.  I am so inept at styling it's pathetic.  Thus the ten minute hair routine, lol.

Yeah - that's my sis, too.  WHORE.  My hair looks straight outta something you'd find balled up and matted from a sewer drain somewhere after I get out of the water.

ETA - that is balls about your hair, dmills.  I remember you talking about the tonsils thing but I didn't know you were all white!  I have lots of greys which is why I color but wow, all white.  Dayum.

• One of the things I love about myself is my hair. It's usually does whatever I want it to do and looks nice too. I can wear it in many different styles- short, long, curly, straight- and I think it still kicks ass. I'm pretty vain about my hair.
• My hair looks good both curly and straight, but I'm generally too lazy to do anything with it.

Or the big ball of hair I pull out of my drain every time I wash it.

I shed so much its disgusting.  You could make a wig out of it.

• Mara- my hair has the potential to be amazing every day, but I lack at the technique.

Now that it is long I have been just throwing mousse in more or just french braiding into a bun because it takes forever to dry.

I shed too.  In fact cleaning the bathroom is one of my least favorite things to do.  I run a swiffer duster around the floor to collect the hair, and omg.  It's shameful.  I'm surprised I haven't gone bald wtf.

eta - DJ, the natural highlights was something I hated in my hair before I started coloring.  I like a more solid look on me, but I love highlights on other people.  This is my natural color.

• Special- I have a confession.  Everytime you post I for some reason think you are Sparent and i get irrationally irritated and think "WTF is that biiatch doing posting here??"

I think its going to take me awhile to differentiate the 2 of you since I confused you well before she called us all morons.

Girlie- what do you put in it to condition it without washing?

Back to confessions:
I also prefer not to wear underwear with most dresses. I hate the thought of panty lines.
I spend about 30 minutes each morning on hair and makeup. I feel like I do not look good without it.

image
• Matty- I always wear something with dresses because I'm afraid the wind will blow and I'll flash everyone around.

• Confession: makeup has turned into an obsession of mine and It's pretty insane. I seriously need to stop buying stuff but I'll see a review on YouTube and think, oh I need to try that. My eyeliner habit is out of control. :/
• edited June 2012
Yeah, I don't wear anything too short so I'm not too worried.
You just have to keep the thighs together! :)

ETA: Mara, I can totally relate. The last time I cleaned out the makeup bag in my purse. There were over 20 lipsticks/ glosses/ stains/ etc. In the bag I carry EVERY day.

My H has over 35 bottles of cologne though, so he gets it. :)
image
• Mara I think on somedays my eyebrow pencil is outta control, lol.  But I recently started doing eyeliner only halfway across on the lower lid.  I always used to do the whole thing.  But the new way my eyes look so much bigger.

I also love the look of like, nude colors on the eyes, color on the cheeks and THICK eyeliner on just the top lid.  I feel fancy like that.
panther
• Blue, maybe my fondness for proper grammar and spelling will help tell us apart. That, or the fact that I'm not Asian.
• AATB my hair is quite a bit similar to yours- and I also wear it mostly curly- it takes a lot of work to straighten. I have to have mine colored though- I have the most boring, mousy shade of brown otherwise.

And I don't get how people can NOT wear underwear as I am the exact opposite. I hate the feeling of not having it on. Especially after sex. Yeah that was probably TMI but tough nuggets.
• I love being naked.  I could totally have rocked the Garden of Eden no probs.
