Monday Mania and What do you want for Christmas?

Hi, all!

had a great weekend, how about you?

ate clean for 3 days straight, had my first training session on saturday, and was up with the birds today to force down breakfast (i never eat it, so this is a big change for me!).

while i obviously havent seen weight loss yet, i have seen a huge spike in energy.

so let's be secular this morning and tell me - what is the one thing you really hope santa puts under your tree this year???

Re: Monday Mania and What do you want for Christmas?

  • Anything from my wedding registry! lol. More specifically a kitchen aid stand mixer and all-clad stainless steel pots and pans

  • Good morning!  I'm glad your training session went well!  Eating clean really does make a difference.

My weekend was nice, over all.  H was pretty sick yesterday, which meant we just stayed in all day.  We went to Mass on Sat night, so we didn't even leave the house for church.  I took care of H, watched some tv and movies, and read.  Very restful.

For Christmas, I'm just hoping for some clothes, mostly.  There's not one particular thing I'm hoping for.  You?

  • DH & I go shopping for each other together. We both took a Monday off from work a few weeks back and trekked to one of the giant malls in our area.

I'm a huge Fossil fan, so I got a watch and sunglasses this year!

DH got some Oakleys and UnderArmour workout shirts.

Boring, but it's nice to "spoil" each other. I can't believe it's already December
  • Sooo tired today! My cat has decided to plop herself on my head at about 4am so that she can keep warm. Problem is, I don't really wake up when she does it, I just slowly let her bully me off the pillow and my neck is all outta wack!

Anyways - I'm asking for a couple of handbags (haven't bought a new one in years), some comfy sweatery boots for lazy weekends, a really really long scarf/pashmina (for wearing around my head at church) and a coffee/spice grinder.

    and PIP for funzies:

  • i really want a new pair of running sneakers, like the nice $150 kind.  but its probably better to get a gift card for them so i can pick some out.

i went to walmart at 1pm yesterday - that was frightening!

lol, Calypso, I also went to Walmart yesterday, around 7 pm. I was reminded... not only do I hate shopping in December, and the reasons why I try to avoid shopping on Sundays (not only for personal religious reasons, but I'm pretty sure that people are meaner on Sundays than on other days!) but I HATE Walmart and most of the people who shop there!

As for Christmas... I'm not really sure what I want! No one has asked me yet what I want, and I don't know if DH will even buy me anything (I'm going to have to ask him really explicitly... eyeroll.) All the things that I want are so explicit and random that probably no one will get them for me. Maybe my parents, cuz they will probably ask about 1 week before Christmas, haha. A 3 qt crock pot, winter dress/work shoes (but I have to pick them out myself!) a few other random things that I can't remember now, and I always like any kind of alcohol!

  • I need running shoes.  I've been working out in 7 yr old sneakers, which I'm pretty sure is the root to my foot pain lol.

Riss, I love those bags and boots!  So cute!

H and I have finished shopping for each other, other than a few small stocking stuffers.  I'm pretty sure he got me clothes and boots.  I've been dying for a nice pair of boots!

  • Our weekend was too busy with errands and family stuff. Last night, I think I fell asleep the second I closed my eyes.

I'm actually really struggling with ideas to give people for Christmas. Maybe something on someone else's list will strike me. :)

  • One thing I really want is texting gloves.  I hate that I can't answer my phone when I have gloves on!  I guess you ladies in warm areas probably don't have that problem much, but I know I do.

  • bib, its hard to find stuff.  everyone i know just buys what they want or need all year long (myself included!).

2 of my nephews are now at teh age where they love money and gift cards so that's easy.  i usually get my sister a gift card to a place that only she can go to (her salon or victoria's secret) otherwise she'd spend it on the kids.  my brother in law loves coffee so he's getting a starbucks card since that's something he rarely splurges on.

my mom walks to church every morning so i sprung for a pair of black uggs for her.  i hope she likes them, i feel like they could be hit or miss.  but she's the same size as my sister so i am guessing if she hates them she'll give them to her!

resa, its cold as anything here, but what are texting gloves?  maybe ill "get it" now as this is my first winter with a smart phone?
  • Texting gloves? This sounds like a good idea!!!
  • When you wear gloves, you can't use your smartphone touch screen.  They make special gloves that you can use with a touch screen.  Isotoner makes them, and I'm sure other companies do, too.

  • Those would be awesome for my hubby! Thanks for sharing!
  • ^^ oh cool! I thought you were just talking about those gloves that have part of the fingers cut off, and a mitten part that can cover or uncover your fingers.

  • Kristan, it can be super tricky dealing with other people's emotions.  It seems like maybe your sister is feeling nervous about losing the family she's always known.  I'm the youngest, and have felt this way before. All you can really do is try to be considerate of her feelings.

  • Happy Monday all!  Normally I'm a total scrooge about Mondays, but it really helps to think that this time next week H and I will be in sunny Mexico!

We had a great weekend, out college team won their first round playoff game.  It's a little sad that we'll miss the next playoff game (and the one after that, if they win), but we saved a good chunk of money taking our honeymoon now versus in the height of winter travel season, so it's worth it to me.

I don't really have anything specific that I want this year, I'm always up for clothes, boots, and could use some new PJs, but I don't expect too much this year.  H and I said we weren't going to go overboard this year, and I already got him his present early, so we'll see what he comes up with.

I had a pair of the Isotoner texting gloves last year - they worked well, and I did really like them.  They weren't quite warm enough for the super cold -40 temps, but for the most part they were warm enough.  Unfortunately I lost one, I don't think I've ever managed to keep a pair of gloves or mittens longer than one winter.  Ugh!

  • Yay for Monday!  It's finally not as slow as my Mondays the last couple weeks at work, which is good for my billable hours.  We went over to my parents' to celebrate my youngest sister's birthday this past weekend, which was a good time!  I also FINALLY finished the cross stitch that I'd been working on the past 3 months for my nephew that is due in less than 1.5 weeks :)  Now all I need is his name, birthdate and weight to finish it off!

My Christmas list isn't super exciting and mainly consists of cleaning supplies like a swiffer and some of those fancy cleaning cloths that only need water :)

For texting gloves... I got a cheap pair from Target (normally $2/pair in store... I got them on sale 2 pair for $3) that has the index finger and thumb with the special material that helps them work with touchscreens.  I don't actually have a smart phone yet... I just have a loaner iTouch from my SIL that I use occasionally for shopping lists and the calendar.  They'll probably work fine until it gets below zero here :)

Right?!? Plus, we're moving for sure in 18 months (whether to a new or bigger place is TBD), and I don't really want unnecessary stuff just to have to sort/move it a year from now. Blegh.

I finally came up with a (gift-card heavy) list for my dad and an idea to run by H for the in-laws.

  • My parents and H's parents don't buy gifts for their adult children.  I am so jealous when my friends are all "oh, my MIL gave me a $200 GC for my birthday."  I have no idea what that would be like.

  • My parents and H's parents don't buy gifts for their adult children.

    weird!
  • They only buy presents for their grandchildren now.  I sometimes think about having my cats "write" my Mom a letter that they each want a Target GC for Christmas (I mean, they sell cat stuff there, right?)  And then I'll take the 4 $50 grandkitty gifts and buy myself something nice lol!

  • my mom does a stocking for my cat each year.  and she gives me presents from the cat.  LOL
  • Lol aww!  That's adorable!

  • When we were younger, my parents stopped exchanging with the other "adults". They still always bought for my grandparents (and vice versa).

Now we do an exchange between my immediate family and a second exchange with my extended family. So, I only need to buy gifts for two people. It is much simpler and cheaper this way. Many of us are in a simliar boat and really don't have much to put on a list. It took me forever to come up with 5 items, none of which I "need".
  • My parents have always bought a few things for each of us even as adults.  Since I'm not going home for Christmas this year, they probably won't get anything for me, and that's fine.  H's mom gets stuff for the adult kids too, and has gotten stuff for me the past year or two.  Sometimes she goes a little overboard and buys random stuff, so we'll see what I end up with this year - we just have very different styles, so I don't know if she'll pick out things that are really "me."
  • The husband and I are taking the booooooring to a whole new level and are buying a vacuum cleaner as our gift to each other. Lame, i know, but im kind of excited. It was either that or a humidifier. :) Last year I was home when both of the gifts my husband ordered for me were delivered... And both said exactly what it was on the package. So much for a surprise :) In my family, we kids and our spouses draw names so we each have one person to give to. I lucked out and got my younger sister who is also my best friend. But I'm still not really in a "gifty" spirit this year.

  • We are adopting a family this year for Christmas so we won't be exchanging gifts as a family.  But I still would really like a new nightgown lol, but I'm super excited to adopt a family for Christmas, it's the first year we've done it! :o)

  • I forgot to mention that my family usually draws names within the siblings (and spouses), so we each just have to get one gift.  We usually go in together on something for our parents.  I'll still contribute towards the parent gift this year, but probably won't participate in the name exchange since H and I won't be there at all.  I was hoping his siblings would be up for a gift exchange, but that sounds like no-go :(

Shawna - how does it work to "adopt" a family for Christmas?  THat sounds pretty interesting.
  • Happy Monday!  I have had a pretty rough one, so I'm glad it's over.  Part of me knows I should sit here and do some grading, but most of me just wants to go home and crash.

Also: Yay Shawna!  I'm so excited for CW Babies.  =)

I haven't even thought about what I want for Christmas.  We still have a registry and I'd love to get some of the serving pieces off of it.  There are some things that you don't really realize you need until you're entertaining a group of people (like, we have no butter dish).  I also need a new stand mixer.  My MIL actually found one in an old house she was selling (the owner died and the seller -- I guess a relative -- told MIL to just go through and take anything she wanted before they cleaned it out to sell) that is like 30 years old.  It works fine, but I just can't seem to get it clean and it blows out a fine puff of dust every time I use it.  :/

I'm frantically trying to figure out what to get for DH.  He wants a new TV for our living room, but I'm not sure I can afford something that huge.  I usually get him a new board game, but I'm thinking I need to shake it up a little!
