Can we do something?

Re: Can we do something?

  • My sister quit her job a while ago (at a bakery) but they still paid her by check. She says she never actually knew what her hourly wage was and they didn't have a clock to punch in. Her paycheck was always different but she always worked the same hours.

[QUOTE]In Response to Re: Can we do something? : I wish they would. We are a really small school. And wtf. This is the conversation I just had with FI (after we decided a couple weeks ago to invite the guys/their spouses from his work but not their kids) Him: hey, that guy that you met at the comeidan thing asked if he could bring his 6 year old daughter to our wedding. i told him yes. Me: a) that was so rude of him b) i thought we weren't having them bring their kids c) don't tell him no, it's too late now d) now we have to invite all of their kids Him: he's the one that said they're usual present for the bride/groom is a $200 check so it still covers her plate. and we don't have to invite the kids of the others, we can just do his. :headdesk:

[QUOTE]One time, there was a glitch in our direct deposit and we didn't get paid til the following Wednesday. That was kind of an inconvenience, lol. I went up to our payroll lady on Tuesday and said, "Not to sound... I dunno... like a 'gimme my money' brat, but when do we get paid?" And she apologized profusely and promised that the issue was going to be resolved asap. She also told me I didn't sound like a brat for asking about my paycheck, lol.

We get paid on the 15th and last day of the month. We normally submit the files to the bank 3 days eary and some people can see their money in their account early. We had a student up here raising holy hell on Dec 14 because he couldn't see the money in his account and was convinced we didn't pay him. DUDE! Payday isn't until tomorrow. Get your panties out of a wad and calm down.

    Wtf?!

I don't get not cleaning up after yourself. None of my coworkers do (leave dishes everywhere for the cleaning people) and are all surprised that we've now found cockroaches in the kitchen. Duh! Wtf did you expect. I take my food containers and bottles/tumbler home with me everyday. Its a crazy concept.

H's job pays by check. It's annoying. But his bank is open 7am-7pm 7 days a week and there's a branch a block away from his office and one within a (long) walk of our house, so that helps.

    I love you.
  • I love dollar stores. I love going in and just buying random junk, cheap pointless junk. It's fun for me. Dollar stores have the best coloring books for really small children. They're cheap so the pictures don't have a lot of definition, so their scribbling actually looks like it's somewhat where it's supposed to be, and you don't have to pretend like they did a good job because technically they did.

  • We don't have DD either. We're a very small clinic and that's the reason the doc gives for non-DD. Our accountant comes 2x a month to pay us and the bills and she comes pretty much on the days she's supposed to but there are times when she can't. I have bills paid directly out of my account on a monthly basis so sometimes I sweat it out even tho I have them set to be withdrawn 2 days past each payday. Doc's answer to this is "you should budget better." Which is true, but I think we should also be paid within a day of payday if not on the day itself - not two days after or go a whole week end because payday fell on a Fri and accountant can't get here until Monday.
  • Ohh, I like Mara's idea! Let's do pics. We haven't had a good pic thread since Duck Face (which, by the way, I recently found some pretty good ones of myself that I don't think made it into the Duck Thread).

Yeah. Honestly I have no idea how they do it there. Working there would have made me a nervous wreck and it's part of the reason my sister quit.

The drive-in I worked at in high school also gave W-2s and they paid us with hand written checks. But I also had to share all my tips with the other waitresses, which drove me apeshit. My boss would take all our tips, count them for us, divide them up, write them on the back of the time card, and whatever we earned in tips was subtracted from our pay check.

I was in high school so it wasn't like I "needed" the money but a couple of my co-workers were definitely single mothers.

And... that place is no longer in business, lol.

He didn't want direct deposit because he didn't want the college we worked for having his personal information. Um, they have your name, address, DOB and SS #. Are you really that concerned about your bank account? Trust me, if they wanted to destroy you, they have all the info they need.

That's what another teacher told me last night (even though she was venting to me about it first). Screw that. I am living paycheckt o paycheck right now. I can't afford a $500 cushion in my account right now. Usually I keep like $100 cushion but that's the most I can do.
