Wine.

I'm drinking a bottle of pinot grigio that a friend of mine gave me from VA. It's decent.

What's your favorite kind of wine that's under $10 a bottle?

Re: Wine.

  • The blue bottle Riesling.  And the one that's usually sitting right next to it by the same maker and it's 7.99.

    I'm a cheap date :)
  • The only wine I'm not allergic to is Arbor Mist, does that count?
  • I don't drink wine enough to have favorites in certain price points. We got a $12 bottle from a store by our apartment and really liked it. I'm sure I would never be able to find it again.

As for kind of wine, I like Cabernet Savingione-don't-know-how-to-spell-it the best. I find it more forgiving than a cheap white for some reason.

I'm a fan of The Little Penguin Riesling. It's like $4.99 a bottle. Yeah, i'm easy to please.

  • I mostly drink Arbor Mist.  It's cheap and has a fruity flavor.
  • Smoking Loon has a great pinot noir that's around $9 or so. Blue Nun makes nice riesling. There's always the Sutter Home white zin if you want to drink silly pink wine. And my favorite pinot grigio is Tomaiolo, which usually retails around $10.

I've never met a wine I didn't like, well, except White Zin, but I don't count that.

There's a bottle of merlot with a Smile on it taunting me from the wine rack.  I think I'd like to have it next.

ETA: I think my favorite cheap right now is the mirassou (sp?) pinot.
  • I LOVE BV Coastal. Their cab sav is amazing! If I am being really cheap then 2 buck chuck from Trader Joe's hits the spot!

  • I really like Barefoot pinot grigio. It's my go-to white wine, but I'm totally trying some of those rieslings!

  • It's not under $10, but it's about $12. For a decent bottle of wine, 2 bucks is negligible to me. Anyway, my go to is 7 Deadly Zins red Zin. If you're not really into red wine, I don't suggest this. Red Zin was definitely an acquired taste for me, but once I got to liking red wine, Jesus, I was hooked.

  • Trader Joe's is probably the best for the money- doesn't get any cheaper than that!

I drink a lot of Beringer's white merlot because it's good for any occasion/most meals.
  • Mark West Pinot Noir.  I think it is $15 though.
  • Lambrusco red, $6 a bottle. Moscato is my favorite white wine.
  • Ogio (or something like that) or Big Kahuna (that ones only $2.99 a bottle and amazing!)
  • Chateua Michelle any of their wine is pretty good...ah damn i really want a glass now...but i have to go to the gym in a little bit
  • I am totally loving all these suggestions! Thanks! :)

LC, I like that one, too.

Wes and I found a $4 Moscato at Lowes Foods last weekend.  I can't remember who made it, but it was the best $4 wine I've ever had.

Another favorite under $10 is Beaujolais-Villages red table wine.  I know my NC is showing, but I also like anything by Duplin and they are usually around $8.
  • YES 3rd Moscotto Di Aisti.  SOO good.  They even came out with a Barefoot one!  I'm a newby in wine...but learning to actually like it!

  • Oh and ditto whoever said Lambrusco. That stuff is awesome. It's red champagne, basically. It's fizzy like champagne and dark like red wine. Farking delicious.

I used to not. It used to make me flush all over my face and neck and my nose would stop up and my eyes would water. I guess I just got over the allergy or something. But it took a long time for me to develop a taste for it. Just try one glass at a time. I know it seems counterproductive to do something you don't like, but I swear you'll get to like it if you have just one glass like once a week.

I have to agree with Heels on anything Duplin (except Hatteras Red).

My recent favorite is a Mouin Cadet white (about $8 at Total Wine, about $9 at Whole Foods).

I have never met a Barefoot wine I didn't like.  Even their sparkling wines are good.

And for another good white (about $11 although it's usually on sale for less) Cavit pinot grigio is a great one.

  • i want to like real wine so badly but it makes my throat close up. Not enough to stop breathing, but enough that I can't swallow anything. It always makes me sad when we go to a really nice Italian restaurant and everyone has has wine and I'm all "coke please".

You can't do white wine either? It's dessert wine, but maybe try a prosecco. It's like champagne, except sweeter.

[QUOTE]Mark West Pinot Noir.  I think it is $15 though.

This is very good, and really reasonable.  I took FI to Ruth's Chris for his birthday last weekend, and they were selling this at $12/glass.  Yikes!

La Crema Pinot Noir is also really good, and I think $16 at Costco (or less on sale elsewhere).

  • Either Beringer White Zin or Tosti Asti (not sure if that is under $10 though)

  • Most whites do the same thing, but to a lesser extent. I can drink them, its just uncomfortable to do so. Hmm I might have to look intoa  prosecco because champagne I can do.
