We aren't having a traditional wedding cake, but rather a tiered dessert stand filled with mini whoopie pies for our guests. My fiance doesn't like dessert, so we don't want to do a cake cutting. My only concern is that guests will be waiting for a cake cutting and won't know that they can go ahead and help themselves whenever they want. I've been to weddings before where the cake cutting happened kind of late in the evening, so I'm worried guests will spend all evening waiting for it and not get their dessert. I'd prefer not to do a dessert "announcement." Any ideas?
Re: No cake cutting - how do guests know to help themselves?
Are you having a sit down dinner? Waiters will have to come by and pick up plates and maybe take some coffee orders. They can mentioned to guests that dessert is laid out and ready. Once a few people grab dessert, the rest will follow.
But once you start putting out dessert, people will naturally help themselves.

Or, you can tell a few key people, maybe wedding party, or a few guests, beforehand. That way, word will spread that dessert is self serve after dinner.

I agree. I think this is the best way to advertise the information.
