    True.

And common sense?  I wouldn't even know not to bring in my porn collection for Film class if they didn't tell me.  People expect way too much from teachers nowadays.
  • And the best is she will start posting tomorrow from her classroom and pretend that none of this ever happenned. That is what pisses me off the most. She gets called out, and pretends it never happenned. Come on, Miss Courtney. I know you are reading this. Be an adult and face the music.

Are you saying they don't show porn in film class anymore? Whoa thank goodness I finished high school before that happen.
  • I remember this one time in school when we were sitting in class and these Russian dudes with parachutes landed right outside of our window and started shooting at us and we had to go live in the woods and fight a renegade war while our parents were locked up in camps. It was severe.

Oh wait. no. That was the movie Red Dawn starring Patrick Swayze and C. Thomas Howell.

  • Oh Cew, I think you ate too much glue in school :P
  • I eat too much glue on the regular. I still take big wiffs of white out any time I see a bottle.
  • C. Thomas Howell was hot back in the day. Now that I have seen him recently (on Southland) I am glad he didn't show up at my house when I was 13 and ask me to run away with him like I wanted him to.

  • Cew, are you secretly the boy who ate a crayon in my class?

Dodgers, be glad you're out.  They totally stifle my creativity.  I'm just trying to educated the kids on various real-life issues, like what to do if you have a threesome or what position is best.  How else will they learn?
  • C. Thomas Howell freaks me out now because he was the super bad guy on Criminal Minds last season.

And yes, I ate your chocolate squirrel.
  • Let me start by saying that I am not defending myself here. I hear all of you when you say that you hate, for the sake of the children, that I knot at school. I get that 110%. But what I don't agree with is the fact that before you really know what I am doing on a daily basis, you can judge me and my teaching. As I have said before, I am doing the same thing period in and period out and the subject that I teach is not one that needs constant reinforcement like math. There is a BUNCH of independent reading that my students do and then we have discussions. They also do group projects. I help them when they need it and I do teach! At the beginning of every period, I am up teaching and helping but at some point, they have to work alone. The days they have group presentations, I am rarely on TK because they are presenting and I am listening. I have no behavioral problems and I am a very respected teacher at my school.

As far as my being on public assistance and what I give my children to eat, I am not going to defend and my feelings are actually hurt that they were brought up the way that they were.

I respect each and everyone of you for feeling the way that you do, and am going to step back from TK. Not because I am doing something wrong, but because I am so tired of people who have no idea what I do, constantly question my abilities. It really isn't fair but such is life huh??
And the whole time, my future husband was in the room...... image image
  • I read a fun quote today,

"School is not educating our children for the real world. School teachers them how to shut up, sit still, and listen to someone telling them what to do."

Exactly! My FI would not be as happy camper as he is now if it wasn't for what I learned in film class.

I wonder though if they brought it back to film class would it be consider inappropriate for the teacher to get involved while student are watching said porn or would it be ok on TK during those time?
  • All that has to be said is that you posted on 15 different threads today alone. I am guessing that you posted more than once on at least some of these threads. Since it is 6:30pm your time, this was obviously not all done after work. Nothing could ever convince me that you are doing all you can for your students. So we have to agree to disagree.

  • MC - I don't get why you STILL think that you're a special snowflake.

Sure, I used to knot at work.  ON MY LUNCH BREAK.

There are many other teachers on here, and I'm pretty sure that we all agree that if you were doing your job well, you wouldn't have time to knot while teaching.

You may be the best teacher in your school, but if that school can't even organize fire drills, I wouldn't use that as a very good measure.

    MFJ - what, my boobs don't turn you on anymore?  ( . )( . )

    Harrumph.

KD - I doubt you'll see this, so I'll page you.

We were talking about this at one of our meetings. There are teachers who are from the real old school and cannot let the control go. They still have the kids sitting at their desks with their hands folded. UGH!!

  • MissC--you and I have disagreed before on things and I think you are a sweet woman.  I'm not questioning your mothering skills or anything else, just the teaching issue because it does hit me somewhat personally.

As a teacher,  I do find it irresponsible to be so present on TK during the school day.  I don't just work in a school--I do the same thing as you, day in and day out.  Because I work my ass off and am not respected by the community (not me personally, the profession in general), it does infuriate me when another teacher contributes to the stereotype that we are all overpaid, underworked babysitters.  I work nights and weekends for my job and am fully present when I am with the students. Yes, allowing the students to work on their own is a valid teaching strategy.  But with low test scores, I don't think one mini-lesson a class and individual work time is cutting it.  You can chose to believe my professional opinion or not, but keep this in mind--NJ public schools are #4 in the nation with the top scores for AP tests.  Obviously, we do something right.

The reason people keep bringing it up is because you don't address the issue and accept responsibility for your actions.  You either ignore the threads, which makes people angry or you say you're on prep. Clearly, you are not on prep every time you post.  If that's true, I want to work at your school, because I'm on a block schedule and have a 90 minute prep and still don't post as much or at as varied times as you do.

Again, I do feel bad that people tend to jump on the complain-train in regards to this issue, but you have to admit, teaching is not like every other profession.  Is it wrong for anyone to KNot at work? Yes.  Does it affect children's futures?  No, not for everyone who is on during the day.  For many kids, their teachers are the only responsible role models they have.  I know you'll want to do the right thing.

  • Soul Man was a very good reason to hate him.

And betrothed, I'm disgusted with most of the comments that you have posted. I don't think I've ever read such judgmental comments in my life. I'm so lucky that the girls I speak to on theknot are nothing like you...I would've never come on here for ADVICE if I would've encountered a big a bitch as you. I genuinely feel awful for your children or your future children, and I think it would be irresponsible of YOU not to invest in their future therapy sessions starting now. Because trust me when I tell you honey, they're gonna need it. ~jcaruncho2010

  • I thought you were stepping back from TK?

  • MC, I've grown to like you. I really have. I think you're super sweet and you mean well, but could you not have seen this coming? You know that people disagree with you knotting from work. Did you really think that making a post about your school wouldn't get attention?

And I don't want you to take a TK break. I don't think it's necessary. I think you just need to understand that while you may not agree with it, the consensus is that knotting while your class is working is not a good idea. And that a lot of your posts that discuss school will get negative attention for that reason.
  • I'm not trying to beat a dead horse, but for God's sake can you not drop the fucking excuses and own your irresponsibility and disregard for your students? If you truly think there is nothing wrong with knotting at any time during your work day, click on your magnifying glass below your sig and print out your previous posts and take that to your principal, along with your lesson plans for a week with the number of actual lecture/teaching minutes highlighted and ask him or her if that's acceptable. If your principal has no issue with your knotting, then I'll happily drop my argument.

Until then, I still think you suck and if you were my kid's teacher you'd be here crying to us about how unfairly you were treated by a parent who caused you to lose your damn job.
