Haha, yes, in any other college it would be called Communication, but I go to an arty, liberal arts college in New York City so it has to be called something different. [/sarcasm]

According to the interwebz, it means courageous and she definitely is. She is definitely NOT a Lucy or Ruby or any of the other cutsey names we had.
That gives me so much more clarity, Cate! haha! It sounds like a WICKED job though! Ultimately I want to get into event planning.
Posted by PaigeMcC
It is truly a fantastic job, and I work with great people. I'm so grateful for it! After my last job, which was an absolute nightmare working for horrible people in a high-pressure sales environment, it's a absolute breath of fresh air.

In my old job, I had 7 days off total - sick, vacation, personal - that's it. I came down with H1N1 one day, with a high fever, and I asked to leave a little over an hour early to go to the doctor. She refused, and I eventually left without her permission anyway since I was convinced I was going to die, so she deducted an entire day's vacation for that one hour (despite a note from the doctor confirming I had H1N1 and shouldn't be around people). So I lost 3 days for leaving at 5pm on Wednesday and not going to work on Thursday or Friday. And they gave Thanksgiving off, but not the day after. Same for Christmas & New Years - had to work on Christmas Eve and New Years Eve. Even during the inauguration, when it was impossible to get into the city, they made us take a holiday if we weren't coming in - everyone else had to sleep there on air mattresses to make sure they could get there! Every day, you had to arrive at 8:30am sharp - if you were late, you owed $1 per minute. It didn't matter why - even when the metro broke and locked people on the train for an hour, she made those people pay $60 for the hour they were late! We got a half hour for lunch, but if you took more than 10 minutes, she'd ask why you were gone so long and ask if you valued your job. The day ended at 6pm, but if you left before 7pm, they asked you where you were going. No joke!

By comparison, I get a much more acceptable 10 days of vacation, 2 personal days, and 4 sick days (but if you are really sick, they'll give you more without blinking. If you're coughing, they'll tell you to go home so you don't get others sick). The workday starts at 9am, but if you show up before 9:05, you're the one unlocking the door. And the day ends at 6pm - if you're here at 6:15pm, you're locking up. We also get a full week off from Christmas Eve through New Years!

Cate - I am so happy to know what you do now! That has been driving me crazy. :) That job sounds really awesome but I think I would miss being home as much as I love traveling.

Paige - Glad you answered; I know nothing about Canada (Geography FAIL) so I was wondering exactly how that worked out as well. You're really far from me so boo to that!

Loopy - you know how my planning is coming along. Slow and tedious. I hate wedding planning in a huge way at this point. Funny because I enjoyed it so much more before. I assume that was because I was more concerned with the day than the actual marriage. Now I couldn't care less about the wedding and care more about our marriage. :) Otherwise, I'll be posting today with some AW-ness.

I have 2 BA's in Criminal Justice (minor in Sociology) and Public Relations (minor in Poly Sci) and I am currently half way through my Masters in Education - though I'll be working before I finish it. I'll get paid way more if I'm in a school for a year before I finish my Masters. Then they have to give me a raise. :)

My question is for all the unemployed ladies - What field are you looking to work in and how is the job search coming along?

NTOD - hahaha, no problem. I figured not many people would know much about where I'm at (the East Coast of Canada seems to be an area people either know TONS or NOTHING about.) so I thought the map might help some people place me!~ haha

And yes, Ohio is FAR.

Sounds like you have a good game plan! I quit my very cozy job and went back to school and am now living on a graduate stipend and student loans. It's hard because I own a house and my stipend barely covers my house payments for the year. I wish I wasn't adding to my loans each semester, but selling my house isn't an option in this economy.

I call Latin Americans all day. I dream in Spanish. I curse in Spanish. I write emails in Spanish. I answer my work phone in Spanish. English has become my second language during the week.

And I really don't mind the traveling - it's only once every other month for about a week. What stinks is that I often don't get to really visit the places I go to since I'm SO busy! Luckily I travel by eating, so I do get to eat a lot of local cuisine, but not see any sights unless I extend my trip through the weekend. They're very good about that - unless the flight is more expensive, they're glad to fly me back whenever (as long as I use vacation for any additional missed work days). I just have to pay for hotel. It's a great way to vacation for cheap! When I go to Europe this summer, I'm definitely going to extend my trip to either go to Scotland to visit friends, Ireland to visit family, or Spain to visit my study abroad family/friends.

I don't move until the first week of January. But I was just there on Tuesday and although the temperature was frigid, I had a great time. The view is amazing! The campus is a few miles away from the Sears (or Willis) Tower!! It's so beautiful.

Edit: My avatar is of the amazing view that I can see from my school! The pic doesn't do justice, but you get the idea.

I'm going to be living on campus in an apartment-style dorm. I'm not really sure what neighborhood I'm in. It's on the West side of campus and apparently it's near a rough side of town...so, yeah! lol.

Okay that sounds awesome! I am very jealous although I don't know that I could do everything in Spanish all the time. My fluency isn't that good! I am, however, not a huge fan of traveling alone so unless I could bring FI along I'd probably hate it. I used to want to wedding plan (but that didn't involve me jumping on a plane all the time). Cate, your job sounds cool!

Loopy - My planning seems to be steadily progressing. We have a date, venue, and photographer. I'm super excited to meet cake lady this weekend and try her cakes! We're also going to apply for a special license that will let FI's brother marry us (as the meeting with my childhood church's pastor didn't go so well). I have my awesome BMs on board now, too.

This is more of a poll for everyone here -

FI and I are seriously considering moving in the next year (yes, we just bought a house but got an offer for a company that wanted to buy our house from us the other day which was completely random!).

So where should we move? Our choices are:

1. Chicago
2. North Carolina - Greensboro, Wilmington, or Chapel Hill
3. Boston
4. Pennsylvania - Outside the Pittsburgh area or near Penn State

Since FI is in construction we need a place that he will be able to find a job pretty easily and since I'm in teaching - somewhere where Intervention Specialist jobs are plentiful. :)

And go!

I'm not even there. I left my four-year school (because it was in a sketchy area, no distinct campus, didn't really have a lot of money) to work and go to junior college. I get an AA and an AS in May :) Then back for the Bachelors, but at a much better school I've actually taken the time to tour.

Me. I've actually just started taking prenatal vitamins. I still have like 4 NuvaRings left, so I want to use all of those first before we start trying. I think it'll work out to around the time we get married is when we'll actually start trying.

GPB- Have you always lived in NY?
I'm not good at feelings.

Haha - I forgot to throw Vegas in there, too. I wouldn't mind that at all! :) And Audrey - I am so beyond pumped for your ballon wedding. That is by far the coolest thing I have ever heard and you're living my dream. Pictures must be posted immediatedly following.

CDE - Boston is looking pretty good although I'm not sure I can handle the really bad winters and Patriots fans. :) It might be worth it if you and Shoes are there tho! How far are you two from one another?

GPB - I was going to put NYC but I visit there 1-2 times a year and I don't know if I could live there. It's so expensive and I want a house. lol. Maybe outside the city? Give me good ideas!

Lyn - I sort of have baby fever but not enough to have one right now. :)

I'm not sure. I assume that she lives in or very close to the city because of school. I live outside of the city. It takes me about a half hour to 40 minutes to get in depending on the traffic or if I take the T.
