Is anyone here in the anti-vaccination camp? I'm genuinely curious as to what the reasons for this are. I know about them supposedly causing autism (but that 1 study was later confessed to be false).

DS has whooping cough (or if the test comes back negative - croup) and is very sick. He has had his vaccines, but is still too small to have the full series and full immunity. Watching him be so miserable, I just can't understand why anyone would put themselves at risk for these awful diseases... and put others at risk as well.

*Note . This may be a P&R since DS has been napping for a little while now.

*Note 2. I am typing with 1 hand since he is napping on my lap, so any responses may be breif or delayed.

vaccines are the devil in liquid form developed by the evil government, who, along with the aapa, are trying to take over the world. Really, the only excuse valid in my mind for not vaccinating your child is an allergic reaction. And those children need the herd immunity provided by the rest of us.

I am so sorry about your son and hope that it gets better as quick as it can.

I am adamantly pro-vaccine and cannot imagine not vaccinating my hypothetical children. I would be beyond pissed if my infant got sick from some kid whose parents hadn't vaccinated (not saying that's what happened to you, but it does happen). I think, on a level, it's just so selfish to rely on herd immunity but not give anything back to the herd. I've actually heard the argument "Oh, well, if everyone else is then little one will be just fine and there's no reason for us to do that."

We will vaccinate. I have a huge problem with those who don't (unless there is a medical or religious reason). I also have a huge problem with people who claim religion to get past the schools rules of vaccination.

I would agree there should be no reason not to vaccinate. I have heard of instances where very young (too young to get vaccinated yet) got sick/died because of someone else not vaccinating their kid and they passed it on to the infant.

As a non parent, but someone who's never had chicken pox, I say vaccinate the kids. I truly think that the reason we're seing a resurgence of some of these diseases that were supposedly wiped out is because of the people that aren't vaccinating their children.

I'm pro-vaccine. All the way. But I do know of a family who has delt with terrible allergies to vaccinations.

But, you know, that's why we all get vaccinated...so they don't have to.

Yeah, hearing someone say they refuse to vaccinate for any reason other than allergies makes me lose respect for them immediately and probably forever. It's on my list of things that do that.

I had all of my vaccines and boosters and I still got whooping cough. That was the most miserable experience of my life and I had a lot of other health issues at that age.

The biggest problem I have with the idea of not vaccinating is that it really only works if everyone else does vaccinate. If it catches on as a movement we'll see a resurgence in these diseases.

My step daughter and her husband have researched in depth every vaccine they give grandaughter. They give her delayed shots, and certain shots that dont contain certain things. Not sure how it works, but they want her vaccinated but with the least chemicals possible.

We have other family members who have forged documents to get their children in school. H and I see red everytime its mentioned. But, what can you do really?

Sorry the little one is feeling bad Wisc. Keep us updated.

</div><div>Sorry he's so sick, poor guy. My nephew got croup a couple of times when he was really small and sitting in the closed up bathroom with a steamy shower going, really helped him a lot. Hope he feels better soon. </div>

Some of that is because the vaccine has a limited efficacy period--it's only good for about 10 years, apparently. The other part is that for whatever reason, we've dropped well below the herd-immunity level of vaccination for whooping cough in WA. Ridiculous. I'm glad I got my booster last year.</div>

This is one of those conversations that I have to avoid completely on TB. Because there's no convincing stupid that they're wrong.

Vaccinate your kid. Pertussis can be deadly, ffs. There is no reason NOT to vaccinate (except rare case of allergy.)

K has had all his vaccinations, and will continue to do so.

I think that children who are not vaccinated (except for allergoies) should not be allowed in schools. They are a danger to children (and adults) who cannot be vaccinated for valid reasons.

I'll go a step further- they shouldn't receive insurance benefits when they get the disease that they could've prevented.

I didn't until I met someone who has them. I guess she is allergic to some ingredient found in most vaccines. When she as vaccinated as an infant she went into anaphylactic shock. They delayed and tried again when older and same thing. She is also allergic to just about all foods.

Often, people who are allergic to eggs can't receive vaccinations. The reason, as I understand, is that eggs (or part of the egg) is used to cultivate the vaccination.

Also,my unsolicited advice for new moms, schedule the appointment as close tothe office opening hours as possible. Ireland that most serious reactions occur in six tonight hours,so the dr would still be on duty.

That too. Our office has a separate section for sick and well but toddlers can't read very well.

If I can ever have a kid I will vaccinate. I think there is nothing wrong with doing your research and being informed of the risks, but weigh them against the risks of your kid catching the disease.

Now when it comes to the newer stuff (like the STD one for the girls), im not so sure.

Blue - the HPV one? I know nothing about it, but I thought that is more for cervical cancer, right?

There was a Law and Order SVU episode about this... an infant died of mumps or some other diease that she was too young to get the vaccine for. She caught the disease while at the playground where an unvaccinated child was playing. It was really interesting hearing both sides, even if it was a dramatized tv show.

I'm on Team Vaccinate. It worked out so well for me so far.

That doctor who forged the results, didn't he also lose his license? But people like Jenny McCarthy still think there is some validity to his research.
On top of her campaign against vaccines, she says that her child has "gotten better.' Actually, her son was most likely misdiagnosed and she is giving false hope to parents with autistic child, making autistic children feel worse about themselves ("What do you mean I can get better...? There's something wrong with me?"), and putting many people at risk for diseases that have now mutated and are harder than before to fight off.

Yeah. Its technically for cancer but its to prevent an STD (HPV) that may cause cancer. I dont like the idea of it right now because of a few reasons. Not enough research has been done and I dont like assuming all girls are going to catch and STD and get cancer.

But my view may change when and if I have a teenage daughter.

Have you heard the new "cure" for autism? It's basically a bleach serum that you feed your kid. The kids who have shown less autistic tendencies after prolonged "treatment" are actually having large portions of their brain destroyed. So sad.
