[QUOTE]In Response to Re: Ring Shopping! : Are you the former Future-Mrs.-Ray?  NM - Supposedly the two of you have different names.  However, your timeline of when you got together with your FI (and out of a complicated situation) was somewhere around the time she disappeared.  And add in the ginormous e-ring...

No ma'am...not me.  My previous account was my e-mail address and I changed it because of that.  But never had the Future-Mrs-Ray...although that is my fiance's name!!!!  Werd.  :/  My first name is Kristy if that helps!

Is there no element or surprise anymore? Call me old fashion, but I love the fact that my FI went and picked out my engagement ring all on his own. I could care less about the "4 C's" All that matters to me is that he picked it out and it was something that he thought I would really love (which I do). I do not consider it an "investment" as I would love him and still want to marry him no matter what the size of ring.

I have a friend who went and did all the research trying to find the "perfect" ring, told her FI what the ring should cost, even left pamphlets around the house and circled the rings she wouldn't.  When she did get engaged she got nothing of what she had told him she wanted, as he bought what he could afford. She now says she feels like an idiot, for stressing him out with all the small details, because she loves the ring he got her because it came from him.

I think everyone should respect the fact that every couple needs to do what works for them. People are different. There isn't one "right" way to shop for an e-ring.

Not everyone who picks their own ring demands that it be of a certain size or cost.  Not everyone likes surprises.  Not every person who helps pick out their own ring goes about in the insane fashion that you described.

The flip side to your argument could be this:  why would any woman marry a man who did not care enough about her opinion/taste to have her help pick out her own ring.  I'm not saying I believe that's true, I'm just pointing out it's a generalization and as desert said everyone is different.

I know this is a few days late, but me and my FI just found Zales Outlet today. I am very excited to say we have picked out our wedding bands. The sales guy gave us a really good price. I cant wait to go and pick them up tomorrow. Sadly I have 4 weeks till I can wear m band :(

I have to agree with the few PP that said there's no "right" way to shop for an e-ring.  Some guys would just prefer that the girls go with them to pick out the ring (like my FI) and some woud rather do it on their own...  My FI already said before we even talked about getting engaged that I would be picking the ring because he had no clue about jewelry and would rather I get something I would totally love than guess in the dark.  Which I completely appreciated because I do love my diamonds and I had a blast shopping for my ring with him too.  It was very special :)

But I definitely think all future brides-to-be or girls getting engaged, etc. should talk to their FI's to see what they are comfortable with.
