I ordered dresses from Bari Jay that were suppose to come in August 8th. All my girls paid in full. Bari Jay said they did not get paid. THerefore, we have to REBUY our dresses AGAIN! This is horrible!  So rude of them to do this to so many people. I am going down there Friday and see what they say to my face. I deserve a refund as does all other brides who paid in full but don't have dresses. Contact Better Business Bureau and we should start a claim with them. THis is illegal!

In the same boat as many of you - I just got a call this afternoon.  Luckily the order was just processed last Tuesday so the cc companies are putting the charges on dispute and reimbursing my BMs.

If you are need to speak to someone at Watters and Watters - the number is 972-404-0143.  Speak to either Joy or Quinn.  W&W hadn't yet decided whether they were shipping directly to brides or going through other bridal salons.

BTW, I have to say that this forum saved my sanity today since I was getting NO information anywhere else.  I had to call two designers (W/W and BL) and they had only given me the one.  Thank you so much ladies - and good luck - I hope everyone gets an easy resolution!

ADAM STPHN- THAT is a great idea! Something has to be done. Brought to the attention of somebody! You should stop by the store Friday 4-7 pm. That is when the owners are supposed to be there for dress pickups. I would be more than happy to talk, but not getting married until Oct 1. But still lost $600 to them with no dresses in hand!

Hi Girls,

I actually work at a bridal salon in Bloomfield and am also getting married. A lot of girls have been calling for different dresses and we are happy to help. If you need anything we carry Bill Levkoff, Jim Hjelm, Alfred Angelo, Bari Jay, Dessy, Belsoie, and Jordan. If you need help getting your dresses from any of these companies please let us know and we will be happy to help. The best thing anyone can do is to call thier credit card company to dispute the payment. Let us know if you need anything!

I am also going down friday and I think the story tonight is a wonderful idea.  They should not get away with this.  All of us brides definitely do not need this huge extra stress.  Everything for me has been smooth.  It is bull that we are not getting riembursed whether we paid cash or credit card.  My 11 girls put $140 as a down payment each and now no one is getting refunded.  Why should we pay for their mistakes.  This is horrible.  We trusted them and they completely screwed us. I agree,  All of us should definitely get together and put a claim together.

They got in and delivered 3 of my girls' dresses, so we got a lucky break there. However, I'm in the same boat with the other four. Two are Dessy and two Jim Hjelm. The Dessy folks were lovely and very understanding and agreed to ship the dresses to us directly. The Jim Hjelm folks were NOT as cooperative. They would only ship to the store in Verona.

My cousin's in a wedding in October and will be losing her deposit on that dress.

Where did all the money go, if not to pay these manufacturers?

I cant even believe this! I'm so upset.  I feel so bad two of my BMs just paid for their dresses! I hope they can get there money back!  I feel horrible!  I think this is so unprofessional.  I just spoke to them last week!  The couldn't just stop taking orders.  I work for a small buss. and I know that we would most likely know we are going under!  How dare they make this process more stressful! I might just go take a trip there on Friday just to give them a piece of my mind! This is absolutely ridiculous!!!!  How DARE they take money from my bridesmaids!!!!!!

Just heard from my cousin, who spoke to them on the phone. This is what she says:

The store said that people who charged their deposits should be able to dispute the charge because the store is going out of business (they didn't mention bankruptcy). They said anything paid in cash, including my deposit will be refunded once their finances are reviewed by a lawyer.

Is this what is going to actually happen? I don't know. But, for those of you who are out deposits or cash, this is something to follow up on!

Does anyone have the number that nonchalance called you from. I'm still waiting for their phonecall. This is so unprofessional. Jim hjelm is the designer of my bm dresses & Jim hjelm has them on hold because they never received payment. That should not be our responsibility. My girls did what they were suppose to & nonchalance to do the same. If anyone has the number they called from please let me know. I think it's extremely disgusting that they have not contacted alot of us. They need to take responsibility for what they did. Good luck to everyone. Maybe if we stick to gather something good will come out of this

I'm getting married september 10th 2011, all of my bridesmaids got their dresses except for one and there iis no way that I am going to make it there in time. I can't believe that they are only going to be open for 3 hours on Friday, no less they are only staying open until 7, I don't leave mynoffice until 7. I'm frustrated now.

Anyone who does not get their order, go on Friday, then call the Morristown Chamber of commerce, Better business Bareau..... I was told by a friend of an investigation underway. Lots of complaints. I would not be supprised if there is a consumer report on local news coming.... THe rumor I heard was business practices fraud.  They are being sued and can not longer afford to stay open. Not sure of how true this is, just had dinner with friends at Pazzo Pazzo and all are talking about it.
OMG they didn't call me and all my bridesmaid dresses are due at the end of August!  I just tried calling them and they didn't answer, its 8:10pm, so they would be closed anyway.  Does anyone have dresses still coming and did they say what will happen in that case??
Posted by cherylnj81
I ordered my 3 bridesmaids dresses there back in April and they were due in the middle to end of August.....I also recieved a call from them telling me they were closing and that I should contact the representative at Bill Levkoff and it would "all be handled and I would have my dresses in time".  Well when I called Bill Levkoff, they told me that Nonchalance had not paid them for the dresses, even though I had paid Nonchalance in full at the time of the order.  The rep at Bill Levkoff told me that in order to get my dresses, I would have to contact another bridal store, give them my order number and pay for the dresses AGAIN!!!!!  Then Bill Levkoff would ship my dresses there, and my bridesmaids have to dispute the charges from Nonchalance with their credit card company in order to get the money back!!!!!  She told me that Nonchalance owes them thousands of dollars and that they got screwed by Nonchalance too!!!!!

Wow, this is just horrible.  I feel for all you ladies.  Best of luck.

I think this just goes to show you... cheap wedding vendors are cheap for a reason and once they realize the true cost of running a profitable business, it's sometimes too late.

This is very similar to the whole Celebrations photography fiasco a couple years back.

I wouldn't have classified them as cheap. We now know what the wholesale prices of our Dessy dresses were, since the company was nice enough to charge us only that price. They were discounted based on what some retailers charge, but definitely they should have been making a profit.

This store has been in business for a while - we got the bridesmaid dresses for my sister's wedding there 4 years ago. Before the economic downturn, so I guess that was a factor.

For a store constantly crowded with customers and seemingly awash with business to be going under, though... maybe it was more than that.

It is now Thursday and I still have not received a single phone call from them & that is disgusting on their end.  Truthfully, I am very very surprised that they don't have the decency to call everyone.  Everyone should be credited back their deposits no matter what way they paid.  When you screw up big like this, you make it right no matter what.
• edited December 2011
Hi,
I ordered 8 BM dresses from there and they were to arrive in September! Park Avenue Bridal has taken over the order so I would suggest you call them ASAP. Apparentlly the deposits were never paid to the manufacturer so your girls  (if they paid with CC) have to dispute the charges ASAP!!!! Park Ave will ask you to pay full amount up front, I am putting everything on my card in the meantime since I really dont have time for all my girls to go and pay individually..This is  a MAJOR bump and hopefully the only one..Good Luck!!

Same thing happened to me.  They called Tuesday afternoon from a restricted number saying that they were closed and just gave me the phone number of the manufacturer Bill Levkoff.  Lisa at that number was extremely helpful.

IMPORTANT: For anyone who is still waiting on dresses that you paid for!  Call the manufacturer if you know your order number (Bill Levkoff uses your last name) and get your confirmaton number.  This is the ONLY way that you can track the order and other bridal salons can help you.

If you get this information, contact Bridal by Lisa in Parsippany, NJ (near morristown).  She was extremely helpful and once I had the confirmation number, she agreed to help me get my dresses shipped there instead.

One downfall, any money you paid toward your dresses an nonchalance was never paid to the manufacturer, so you need to call your credit card company and put a stop payment on it immediately!  Report the fraud and they will investigate to help you.

I have 11 - that's right, ELEVEN, bridesmaid dresses on order (Jim Hjelm & Alvina Valenta) that were due in the beginning of July that (of course) never showed. I called them just last Wednesday and was told that they should be in this week - LIARS. No word of closing, no phone call this week, nothing. I called Jim Hjelm in Manhattan this morning, they said the dresses are there, but they never received payment. I am waiting to hear back from all my girls on whether their credit card companies will reimburse them. If not, I will be camped out at Nonchalance waiting for them to open their doors and give me my money in cash. If you want to see a true bridezilla, I invite you all to attend as I freak the hell out.  Now we will have to pay twice and go through Park Avenue Bridal to see these dresses. One good thing, at least the dresses were made because my wedding in only 8 weeks away.
